The submarine was developed by Spanish engineer and naval officer Isaac Peral. Launched in 1888, it became the first fully electric military submarine capable of navigating underwater and maintaining a controlled depth. It incorporated several advanced features, including a torpedo tube, a periscope, an air regeneration system, and an innovative automatic depth-control device. Despite its success, the project was abandoned in 1890. Today, the submarine is preserved at the Cartagena Naval Museum in Spain, representing one of the most forward-thinking naval designs of its era. Veel mensen in de buurt schrokken daarvan wakker. Meerdere buurtbewoners laten aan AT5 weten dat het een harde knal was. "De knal was gigantisch", vertelt een van die buurtbewoners vanochtend. "Nog nooit zo hard meegemaakt. Wel eens van die hele harde vuurwerkbommen gehoord, maar dit was echt anders." De buurtbewoner vertelt dat zelfs bij auto's die om de hoek van de straat geparkeerd stonden het alarm afging. "Toen ik hier kwam, was ik verbaasd dat niet alle autoruiten eruit liggen." Volgens de politie is er niemand gewond geraakt bij de explosie. Er is ook niemand gehouden. De vrouw in Nieuw-Vennep is door een misdrijf om het leven gekomen; de doodsoorzaak van de vrouw in Oud-Zuid wordt nog onderzocht.De politie benadrukt dat het gaat om twee verschillende opsporingsonderzoeken. ABN Amro laat aan AT5 weten dat het verdriet groot is bij de bank. "Het waren twee zeer geliefde collega's", die allebei in Amsterdam werkten. "Het is een enorme schok en verschrikkelijk. Wij doen ons best om alle steun te bieden aan de mensen die nauw met hen samenwerkten." Agenten troffen op donderdag 26 maart een dode vrouw aan in een woning aan de Koninginneweg en er werd gelijk een grootschalig onderzoek gestart.
