Het is dringen bij de universiteitsbibliotheek op het voormalige Binnengasthuisterrein. Al voor openingstijd staan studenten in de rij om het beste plekje te vinden: "Het heeft geen enkele zin om na openingstijd nog te komen." Afgelopen september opende, na een twaalfjarige verbouwing, de nieuwe UB. In het voormalige ziekenhuis zijn zo'n 1100 studieplekken, evenveel als in de voormalige UB aan het Singel. Studentenvakbond ASVA had op meer plekken gehoopt: "Deze drukte is een duidelijk teken dat er niet genoeg capaciteit is", aldus Miko Kok. "Veel studenten hoopten met dit nieuwe pand op meer studieplekken." Regen of niet, ook vandaag staan studenten al vroeg in de rij: "Wie het eerst komt, het eerst maalt", vertelt een student. De meesten hebben wel eens vergeefs naar een plekje gezocht: "Ja, dan loop je het hele gebouw door, maar dan is er geen plek en moet je ergens anders heen, terwijl je gewoon wilt studeren." Ruimere openingstijden Studenten vinden het ook jammer dat de bibliotheek in het P.C. Hoofthuis dicht is. Uitwijken naar Science Park vinden veel van hen te ver: "Het is overal druk en ik studeer het liefst hier in de UB." De UvA laat weten te begrijpen dat het frustrerend kan zijn om op piekmomenten een plek te vinden. In tentamenperiodes openen ze daarom extra studieplekken en zijn er ruimere openingstijden. Counterfeit beauty products are more common than many people realize, and they’re increasingly difficult to spot. You may think you’re buying an authentic foundation, lip gloss, or moisturizer on Amazon or other big marketplaces, but a recent Wirecutter investigation (https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/counterfeit-beauty-products/) revealed how easy it is to buy fakes.  In this episode, we talk with Wirecutter senior writer Rose Maura Lorre about her six-month investigation into the world of counterfeit beauty and skincare products. She worked with a cosmetic chemist to test a dozen products, and most of them proved to be questionable.  Rose explains how counterfeit beauty products circulate online, what warning signs shoppers should watch for, and how to make sure the products you’re buying are the real thing. This episode covers: • Why counterfeits show up on legitimate shopping sites: Large marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and Shein allow a variety of sellers to list products. T If the seller actually fulfilling your order isn’t the brand or an authorized retailer, it means the product is being sold by a “third party” seller, and it’s more likely to be a fake. • The most important thing to check before buying: Look closely at who the product is sold by and shipped from. If the seller isn’t the brand itself or a retailer you recognize, you’re taking a risk—even if the listing looks official. • How third-party sellers complicate things: Some products are real but diverted from authorized supply chains. They may have been stored improperly, tampered with, or sold past their intended distribution channel. • Why packaging clues aren’t always reliable: People often look for differences in fonts, labels, or packaging quality, but counterfeiters have become excellent copycats. In Europe, Spain is regarded as a pioneer in combating violence against women. Spain was the first country to recognise gender-based violence as a systemic problem and to take action, including passing a law that protects women from violence perpetrated by men. This law has been in place since 2004 and is designed not only to facilitate criminal prosecution but also to promote prevention and expand support services for affected women. Since 2004, Spain has introduced further legislation to broaden the definition of “sexual violence against women”, for example in 2022 with a law that explicitly addresses digital sexual violence and criminalises non-consensual pornography. And that is precisely why Collien Fernandes has filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband Christian Ulmen in Spain. On the one hand, because the ex-couple lives in Spain and the alleged offences were committed there. On the other hand, the charges are only possible because the allegations Collien has made against her ex-husband constitute a criminal offence in Spain – but not in Germany. In Germany, there is currently no law that makes assaults on women in the digital sphere – such as the creation of deepfake pornography – a criminal offence at all. And this is despite the fact that most women report having experienced digital violence at some point. The German Minister of Justice, Stefanie Hubig of the SPD, now intends to present a draft bill as soon as possible. Under the pressure currently building in the German public sphere, since Collien Fernandes brought the case to light through her own research and a major article in *Der Spiegel* and has been speaking out about it, this law could be introduced very soon. Collien Fernandes is a well-known actress; her now ex-husband is one of Germany’s most famous actors, having starred in the series "Jerks", for example. He has engaged a lawyer and accuses his ex-wife and "Der Spiegel" magazine of reporting on suspicion. Totaal onaangekondigd drongen ze die bewuste dag door tot in de feestzaal van het Hilton Hotel waar een privéfeestje voor Cruijff gaande was. "Het was één van de mooiste dagen van ons leven." "Dat ik mijn grote held van zo dichtbij mee hebt mogen meemaken, ja het was één van de mooiste dagen van mijn leven", verzucht acteur Juda Goslinga. Samen met zijn hartsvriend en muzikant Reint van den Brink beleefde hij op 6 april 1999 de dag van zijn leven. "Cruijff was net uitgeroepen tot Europees voetballer van de twintigste eeuw en om die reden had hij een erewedstrijd georganiseerd."
