Trump is sinds 2025 voor de tweede keer de president van Amerika. In de tussentijd heeft hij niet stilgezeten en houdt hij zich, naast de VS, ook bezig met andere landen. Hoe kijken de Amerikanen die op hem gestemd  hebben nu naar zijn beleid?

In de door brand verwoeste bedrijfspanden in aan de Nieuwe Hemweg zaten meerdere, veelal kleine ondernemers. Ze zijn bijna alles kwijtgeraakt en velen van hen moeten hun bedrijf weer vanaf niets opbouwen. Op camerabeelden kan de Italiaanse William zien hoe zijn werkplek - een professionele keuken in Westpoort - langzaam door de vlammen gegrepen wordt.  Met zijn bedrijf leverde William pasta aan restaurants. Door de brand is hij zijn hele inboedel kwijtgeraakt. Hij kan nu tijdelijk een andere ruimte gebruiken en hij heeft een pastamachine te leen gekregen van een zakenrelatie, maar voor de rest moet hij weer helemaal vanaf 0 beginnen. Er zijn meer kleine ondernemers zoals William - vaak doen ze iets in de voedselsector - die door de brand alles kwijt zijn geraakt. Zoals Maxine die met haar bedrijf vegan kaas maakte.  "Het is voorbij", dacht ze toen aan kwam rijden en zag dat de brand op háár werkplek plaatsvond. "Je hele hebben en houden staat hier. Als dat in vlammen opgaat, dan moet je helemaal opnieuw beginnen." Bart-Jan Veldhuizen, die met zijn bedrijf professionele keukenruimte aanbiedt aan ondernemers zoals William, is niet álles kwijt. Een ander bedrijfspand, zo'n honderd meter verderop, staat er namelijk nog. Daardoor kan William voorlopig door met het maken van pasta. Veldhuizen zag samen met een collega hoe het begon als scooterbrand. Toen de brandweer ter plaatse was, verwachtte hij niet dat ook zijn bedrijf geraakt zou worden. Maar dat gebeurde dus wel. Daardoor hebben alle kleine ondernemers die van zijn ruimte gebruikmaakten nu een probleem. "Dit was hun productieplek", zegt Veldhuizen. Als er geen productie is, kun je niets aan je klanten leveren, die raak je dus kwijt. En je hebt geen inkomsten om je personeel te betalen." Naast het regelen van verzekeringen zijn ze dus vooral bezig met: de schade beperken en zorgen dat je zo snel mogelijk kan doorpakken. Veldhuizen zelf probeert dat ook, al vreest hij dat zijn bedrijf deze klap niet te boven komt. "Hier zat een half miljoen euro in", zegt Veldhuizen, die nu ook vreest voor het voortbestaan voor zijn eigen bedrijf. William gaat, zolang de andere bedrijfsruimte van The Kitchen Republic nog in bedrijf is, verder met pasta maken, maar ook hij zegt nu bijna opnieuw te moeten beginnen. Een geldstortautomaat bij een supermarkt aan de Sloterkade in Zuid is vanochtend vroeg opgeblazen. De omgeving was vanmorgen een paar uur afgezet vanwege het onderzoek van onder de Explosieven Opruimingsdienst Defensie (EOD). De politie is nog op zoek naar de daders. Buurtbewoners werden kort voor 04.00 uur vanochtend opgeschrikt door een enorme knal. ''Ik lag te slapen'', vertelt een buurtbewoner die wakker werd van de explosie. AT5 ontving berichten van mensen die de knal zelfs in de Beethovenstraat hadden gehoord. Door de explosie is de automaat, waar biljetten of munten gestort kunnen worden, op de hoek van de Hoofddorpweg en de Sloterkade volledig verwoest. "Je kon ook echt de trilling voelen", aldus een buurtbewoner. De politie heeft vannacht een groot deel van de straat afgezet om onderzoek te doen. Rond 06.00 uur kwam de EOD ter plaatse om explosief materiaal veilig te stellen. Ook het Team Explosieven Verkenning (TEV) van de politie was aanwezig op de plek om onderzoek te doen. Onbekend of iets is buitgemaakt Het is onduidelijk of er iets bij de plofkraak is buitgemaakt. De politie is op zoek naar vermoedelijk twee daders. Die zouden op een motorscooter na de plofkraak zijn weggevlucht. Mensen die iets gezien of gehoord hebben wordt gevraagd contact op te nemen met de politie. The de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces is being felt worldwide, as shipments of oil, natural gas and fertilizer have been drastically curtailed. A fifth of the world's oil supply transits through the strait, and the price of oil is up by about 50% since the war began in late February. On Saturday evening, President Trump threatened Iran on social media, saying he would "obliterate their various power plants, starting with the biggest one first," if the Strait of Hormuz was not fully reopened within 48 hours. He later extended his deadline by five days following Iranian threats to destroy essential infrastructure, including energy and water systems, across the Gulf. Iran has denied reports of direct or indirect talks with the U.S. If Iran can keep the Strait of Hormuz closed and "hold Washington to ransom," it will have significant leverage, says Alfred McCoy, professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Het initiatief Donor Van Ons moet bewustwording creëren en mensen met verschillende roots stimuleren om donor te worden. "Je kan levens redden." Fatima Bouazzaoui staat nu een jaar op de wachtlijst voor een nieuwe nier. Binnen haar familie is het niet gelukt om een geschikte match te vinden. "De wachtlijst voor mij is drie tot vijf jaar. Je moet maar geluk hebben dat je een donor vindt. En voor mensen zoals ik duurt het vaak nog langer", vertelt ze. Dat komt doordat er op dit moment te weinig donoren zijn met een niet-westerse achtergrond. Het gaat daarbij om donatie bij leven, zoals een nier, een stukje lever of bloed. "We willen vooral bewustwording creëren dat afkomst bij bloed- en orgaandonaties een rol kan spelen. Wanneer donor en ontvanger beter op elkaar lijken qua achtergrond, is de kans op complicaties vaak kleiner en de kans op genezing sneller", legt Merlijn van Hasselt van Sanquin uit. De oorzaak dat er weinig niet-westerse donoren zijn, heeft volgens Fatima te maken met een gebrek aan informatie. "Die hebben ze vaak te weinig. Ze worden pas met de realiteit geconfronteerd wanneer het heel dichtbij komt. Binnen het geloof bestaat er soms ook onduidelijkheid over wat wel en niet mag. Sommige mensen uit mijn gemeenschap denken dat je niet mag doneren, maar in de Koran staat dat wanneer je één mensenleven redt, je eigenlijk de hele mensheid redt. Daar houd ik me graag aan vast", vertelt ze. Zelf kijkt ze vooral uit naar de rust en de vrijheid die haar nieuwe nier zal brengen. Op dit moment moet zij namelijk drie keer per week een paar uur aan de dialyse in het ziekenhuis. "Ik denk dat het veel opluchting zal geven. Ik heb zin om de wereld te zien met mijn man en kinderen.
