Tienduizenden moslims startten vandaag met de viering van Eid al-Fitr, ook wel bekend als het Suikerfeest. Na een maand vasten is het nu tijd voor samenkomst met familie en vooral veel lekkernijen. Het Suikerfeest duurt in totaal twee dagen en begon vandaag met het ochtendgebed, waar AT5 bij aanwezig was.   Het was druk vanmorgen in de Al Houda Moskee in Noord waar tientallen moslims samenkwamen voor het ochtendgebed. "Het gebed was heel mooi", vertelt een jonge bezoeker. Voordat de preek begon werd er geld ingezameld voor mensen die minder te besteden hebben.  Voor veel moslims viel deze ramadan minder zwaar dan een paar jaar geleden. Toen viel de vastenmaand later in het jaar, toen de dagen langer waren en de temperaturen gemiddeld hoger. "Dit was een makkie", laat een bezoeker van de moskee weten.  500 kilo gebak. Wie Suikerfeest zegt, zegt ook koekjes en gebak. Bij een bakkerij aan de Javastraat staat vanmiddag al een lange rij. "We verkopen meer dan vijfhonderd kilo gebak per dag", laat de bakker weten. Zij moet zelf nog even wachten op de viering. "Ik mag later alles inhalen", vertelt ze.  Een vrouw uit Diemen komt speciaal voor deze bakkerij naar de Javastraat. "Marokkaans eten is zo lekker, en dit is de beste bakkerij", vertelt ze. Ze vertrekt met een tas vol broodjes, msemen (soort Marokkaanse pannenkoek) en gebakjes. Maar op die manier jaag je ze naar vethoudend product en schiet je er niets mee op." De wereld kijkt naar olieprijzen. Maar dat is nog maar het topje van de ijsberg. De blokkade van de Straat van Hormuz raakt namelijk veel meer dan alleen energie. Door spanningen en aanvallen komt een cruciale handelsroute onder druk te staan — en dat heeft gevolgen voor vrijwel elke sector van de wereldeconomie. Zo’n 10 tot 15% van de wereldwijde olie-export loopt via deze zeestraat. Maar tegelijkertijd gaat het ook om een kwart van de wereldhandel in aluminium, een derde van het helium en enorme hoeveelheden kunstmest en chemische grondstoffen. Wanneer die stroom stilvalt, raken complete productieketens ontwricht. In Azië draaien raffinaderijen al op lagere capaciteit omdat ze niet de juiste olie ontvangen. Dat leidt tot tekorten aan diesel en kerosine. Tegelijkertijd krijgen fabrieken wereldwijd minder grondstoffen binnen voor plastics, medicijnen en bouwmaterialen. De gevolgen stapelen zich op: stijgende aluminiumprijzen raken industrieën van auto’s tot energienetten. En misschien nog belangrijker — kunstmest wordt duurder, waardoor voedselproductie onder druk komt te staan. Een van de grote winnaars van de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen is Forum voor Democratie. Vier jaar geleden deed de partij in vijftig gemeenten mee, nu in 104. Forum komt in al deze gemeenten in de raad en krijgt er bijna 250 zetels bij. De winst van Forum betekent ook dat er raadsleden komen met een omstreden verleden. Bijvoorbeeld vanwege banden met extreemrechtse groeperingen of antisemitische uitspraken. In de gemeente Súdwest Fryslân bleek deze week volgens RTL ook dat een van de kandidaten is veroordeeld voor het telen van cannabis. Het blijkt na vragen van Nieuwsuur om lijsttrekker Barry Bibo te gaan. Sommige partijen hebben al aangegeven niet met Forum te willen samenwerken vanwege die omstreden kandidaten. Partijvoorzitter Thierry Baudet noemt dat “een excuus” om het niet te hebben over de problemen die ze willen aankaarten.
