Aan het einde van de ochtend werd de verkiezingsuitslag bekendgemaakt, waaruit bleek dat GroenLinks de grootste partij van de stad is met tien zetels. VVD vindt dat partij 'moet meeregeren' na zetelwinst, D66-lijsttrekker legt initiatief eerst bij GroenLinks Bij de VVD was vanochtend er vreugde. Lijsttrekker Daan Wijnants zag zijn partijen groeien van 5 naar 6 zetels in de raad. Hij wil met die zetels graag meeregeren. "Amsterdam heeft langs een eenzijdige politiek gehad. We moeten naar een politiek vanuit het midden toe, vanuit álle Amsterdammers. Daar hoort een sterke VVD gewoon bij." Ook D66-lijsttrekker Melanie van der Horst werd vrolijk wakker na haar zetelwinst. De partij ging van 7 naar 8 zetels. "Dat je wakker wordt en denkt: er was iets heel erg leuks. Oja, we zijn gewoon gegroeid." Van der Horst snapt het standpunt van de VVD over meeregeren. "Maar het is nu echt aan de grootste partij om het initiatief te nemen." Dat is GroenLinks, dat samengaat met de PvdA. In alle gemeenten waar FVD meedeed, lijkt de partij een of meer zetels te halen.   De uitslag maakt regeren voor premier Jetten er niet per se makkelijker op, zegt politiek duider Arjan Noorlander. Hij is de premier van een minderheidskabinet, en heeft de oppositie dus hard nodig. Maar veel oppositiepartijen hebben deze verkiezingen gezien dat veel burgers iets anders willen dan het beleid van Jetten.

De oorlog in het Midden-Oosten lijkt misschien ver weg voor veel Amsterdammers, maar toch speelt het conflict ook door in heel wat woningen in onze stad. Sinds Israël Libanon heeft aangevallen, wordt het land constant gebombardeerd en daar maken de Libanezen die in Amsterdam wonen zich natuurlijk veel zorgen over. Israël zegt dat de acties zijn gericht op de terroristische groep Hezbollah uit te schakelen. Maar ook burgers daar worden geraakt. Kamal heeft al meer dan dertig jaar een Libanees restaurant in Amsterdam. Gedurende de dag is hij druk bezig met zijn gasten, maar na sluitingstijd blijven zijn gedachten bij de situatie en zijn familie in Libanon: “Ik blijf aan hen denken. Ik ben gewoon verdrietig.” Ook voor de Libanese Amsterdammer Souraya is het lastig om haar normale leven voort te zetten, terwijl haar moeder in Beiroet zit: “Ik ben voortdurend in gedachten bij mijn moeder en vrienden. Bij elke melding die ik binnenkrijg, kijk ik of ze oké zijn.” Israël is ondanks een staakt-het-vuren begonnen aan een offensief tegen Libanon. Naast de continue bombardementen trekken de Israëlische militairen steeds verder het land in. Honderdduizenden Libanezen zijn inmiddels op de vlucht geslagen en het dodental blijft oplopen. Het Israëlische leger heeft aangegeven dat zij blijven doorgaan met het aanvallen van Libanon totdat Hezbollah is verslagen. Voor Kamal doet de situatie hem vooral veel verdriet, maar geeft het hem ook een gevoel van machteloosheid: “Het is erger om hier veilig in Amsterdam te zijn terwijl Beiroet wordt gebombardeerd.” Zowel Kamal als Souraya proberen constant contact te houden met hun familie en vrienden in Libanon. Hoe de situatie zich gaat ontwikkelen in Libanon is nog onzeker. Wel weet Kamal één ding zeker: “Wij zijn geen mensen van oorlog. GroenLinks boekt twee zetels winst en is daarmee de grootste partij van de stad geworden. D66 wordt de tweede partij, gevolgd door de PvdA en de VDD. Op de pont bij CS reageren Amsterdammers die we spreken overwegend positief op de uitslag, al is niet iedereen even blij met de voorlopige zetelverdeling.
