Bij het kantorencomplex Atrium op de Zuidas is vannacht een explosie geweest. Dat bevestigt de politie. Op sociale media circuleren beelden van de actie, die zou zijn opgeëist door dezelfde groepering als de eerdere aanslagen op de Joodse school in Buitenveldert en de synagoge in Rotterdam. Op een filmpje zijn eerst beelden te zien van de bewuste plek. Daarna zie je een rugzak waar met een aansteker een lont wordt aangestoken. De politie laat weten op de hoogte te zijn van de beelden en zegt mogelijke verbanden te onderzoeken. De beveiliging heeft de brand geblust. De knal vond iets voor 01.00 uur vannacht plaats op de Strawinskylaan, waar Atrium is gevestigd. De actie zou gericht zijn tegen Bank of New York, een Amerikaanse bank die in het kantorenpand gevestigd is. In het filmpje dat circuleert staat de tekst: "In de naam van Allah, dit is een laatste waarschuwing voor iedereen in de wereld, vooral in de EU. Distantieer jullie van alle Amerikaanse en zionistische belangen." De beelden zijn nog niet geverifieerd. De groepering die de actie op sociale media opeist is de zogenoemde Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah. In de nacht van vrijdag op zaterdag vond er bij de Joodse school Cheider in Buitenveldert een explosie plaats bij de buitenmuur. Eerder deze week was een synagoge in Rotterdam ook doelwit van een gerichte explosie. Beide explosies werden opgeëist door dezelfde groep. De politie laat weten bekend te zijn met de beelden die online circuleren en geeft aan 'er goed naar te kijken'. VU-docent over de groepering Dr. Younes Saramifar is politiek antropoloog en Midden-Oosten expert bij de Vrije Universiteit. Hij heeft zich op LinkedIn uitgebreid uitgelaten over de groep. "De groep Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah heeft haar laatste waarschuwing afgegeven na het gooien van een explosief in een gebouw in Amsterdam-Zuid. Hun angstzaaierij en bedreiging van de openbare veiligheid moeten serieus worden genomen." Toch is hij niet erg onder de indruk van ze: "De groep zelf kan echter niet serieus worden genomen. De groep is duidelijk bezig een identiteit te ontwikkelen om meer invloed te krijgen." Volgens Saramifar getuigen de uitlatingen van de groep van een gebrek in het Arabisch. De taal is volgens hem gegenereerd door een AI-tool. Bovendien heeft het apparaat waarop de nieuwe video is bewerkt geen Arabisch of Engels als moedertaal in het besturingssysteem. Protesters reportedly torched a local Communist Party office in the city of Morón, Cuba as people express a growing frustration over food shortages and massive blackouts across the island.

Scheldpartijen, bedreigingen en zelfs vechtpartijen met patiënten: drie op de vier zorgverleners krijgt te maken met agressie op het werk. Wat gebeurt er als zij hierdoor fysiek of mentaal gewond raken? Wie zorgt er voor hen als de angst blijft en nachtmerries aanhouden? In deze video van Zembla vertellen verpleegkundigen die gewurgd en gegijzeld werden door patiënten hun verhaal. Na geweldsincidenten voelen zij zich niet alleen onveilig, maar ook in de steek gelaten. Goede nazorg blijkt vaak afhankelijk van individuele leidinggevenden en financiële ondersteuning blijft regelmatig uit. Volgens betrokkenen kan het ontbreken van steun leiden tot nieuwe traumatische klachten. Uit een rondgang van Zembla onder verpleegkundigen en gesprekken met experts blijkt dat zorginstellingen tekortschieten in de nazorg voor personeel dat te maken krijgt met agressie. Wanneer die nazorg ontbreekt, neemt de kans op PTSS en chronische stressklachten toe en kunnen medewerkers zelfs arbeidsongeschikt raken. Arbeids- en organisatiedeskundige Cecile de Roos noemt dit een blinde vlek binnen zorgorganisaties. Als de nazorg onvoldoende is geregeld, kunnen zorginstellingen aansprakelijk worden gesteld voor de schade. Drie op de vier zorgverleners krijgt te maken met agressie, en één op de vijf met fysiek geweld zoals schoppen, slaan of verwurging door patiënten. Werkgevers zijn wettelijk verplicht om een veilige werkomgeving te bieden, onder meer via risico-inventarisaties en passende maatregelen. Uit onderzoek van Zembla naar recente plannen van aanpak blijkt dat concrete maatregelen voor bescherming in de nazorgfase vaak ontbreken. Naast het gebrek aan nazorg zijn er volgens experts nauwelijks financiële regelingen in cao’s voor zorgverleners die door agressie ziek worden. Hierdoor kunnen medewerkers die arbeidsongeschikt raken in financiële problemen komen. Het aansprakelijk stellen van de werkgever is in veel gevallen de enige manier om schade te verhalen. Zorginstellingen erkennen regelmatig aansprakelijkheid bij geweldsincidenten, wat leidt tot schadevergoedingen die kunnen oplopen tot enkele tonnen per zaak. Bij Bureau Letselschade van vakbond FNV lopen tientallen dossiers. Verzekeraars signaleren bovendien een stijging in het aantal claims. Sinds 2020 is er door één verzekeraar meer dan vijf miljoen euro uitgekeerd aan zorgmedewerkers die slachtoffer werden van agressie op de werkvloer. Volgens onderzoekers is het aantal claims waarschijnlijk slechts een deel van het totale probleem. Veel zorgverleners zouden hun werkgever niet aansprakelijk kunnen of durven stellen, waardoor de omvang van agressie in de zorg en de gevolgen daarvan mogelijk groter zijn dan zichtbaar is. Bewoners en ondernemers van het stuk Singel achter de Dam zijn fel tegen de komst van een afvalboot bij hen in de gracht. De gemeente wil daar vanaf 1 juni mee beginnen als verzamelpunt voor het afval van de Negen Straatjes. "Ik vind een afvalboot in het centrum gewoon niet gepast." In het Singel tussen de Raadhuishuisstraat en de Paleistraat moet ie komen, ter hoogte van nummer 213: de afvalboot, of volgens bewoner en ondernemer Edwin Nabbe, het afvaldepot. "Het is een compleet afvalverwerkingspunt. Het is een bemand station, waar vier tot vijf busjes geparkeerd worden. Het zijn twee boten: een grote afvalboot, en een grote kantineboot. Dus je praat helemaal niet over een afvalboot." De afvalboot ligt nu ook in het Singel, vlak bij het Koningsplein, maar daar loopt de vergunning na vijf jaar af, zegt Nienke van Renssen, bestuurder bij stadsdeel Centrum. "En deze nieuwe plek is een hele geschikte plek voor de afvalboot. We hebben naar het verkeer gekeken, naar de stand van de kades, naar de grachten en de smalle straatjes waar het afval vandaan moet komen. Vanaf hier kunnen we het afval mooi naar het Westelijk Havengebied afvoeren over het water." Maar de komst van de afvalboot stuit op verzet. Zo'n 20 bewoners en ondernemers hebben zich verenigd in de actiegroep Singel Tegen de Afvalboot (STAB). Bewoner Miranda Vlas: "Ik vind het onbegrijpelijk. We zitten hier op zo'n mooi puntje in het centrum. Het is historisch erfgoed. Ze hebben onwijs veel moeite gestoken in de Oranje Loper om het op te knappen en mooi te maken. En dan gaan ze nu pal naast die Oranje Loper, in dit mooie historische centrum, dat afvaldepot installeren." 'Centrum zonder zak' De afvalboot maakt onderdeel uit van 'Centrum zonder zak', een pan van de gemeente om de vuilniszakken in het centrum van de straat te krijgen. Het streven is om in 2030 dertig afvalboten in de binnenstad te hebben liggen. Bedoeling is dat het afval in de Negen Straatjes met onder meer bakfietsen en andere kleine voertuigen op afspraak wordt opgehaald en naar de afvalboot wordt gebracht. Marc van de Hare, eigenaar van een kapperszaak aan het Singel, vreest dat het daardoor op de gracht helemaal vast komt te staan. "Je krijgt verkeersopstoppingen, je krijgt chaos. Die taxi's die dan lekker gaan toeteren." Bewoner Vlas vreest hetzelfde: "Er zijn hier twee hele belangrijke toegangswegen richting de Dam, richting het Paleis." Van de Hare: "Als we teruggaan naar de jaren tachtig, toen werd ook het afval opgehaald met kleine autootjes. Die autootjes reden naar het IJ toe, waar het afval werd afgestort. Dat vind ik veel beter. De bewoners hebben er geen last van, de ondernemers hebben er geen last van." Ook vreest de actiegroep dat de afvalboot vreselijk gaat stinken, en dat er ongedierte op af komt. Maar volgens stadsdeelbestuurder Van Renssen valt dat allemaal wel mee. Op de locatie bij het Koningsplein zouden er volgens het stadsdeel weinig klachten zijn. "Uiteraard begrijpen we dat mensen zorgen hebben, maar het goede is, is dat deze afvalboot is afgesloten. Tijdens de openingstijden zijn er mensen die goed op de operatie letten en ook het afval aannemen. En als het niet open is, is de boot gesloten." Bewoner Nabbe moet er bijna om lachen. "Denkt u dat als er menen om zeven uur, of als het niet meer bemand is, met hun zakje daar komen, hun zakje daar dan niet neerzetten? Je kunt iets afsluiten waar de hele dag een geur is geweest, maar daar komen toch nog ratten en muizen op af in de nacht." De gemeente verwacht over een paar weken een voorlopige vergunning te krijgen voor het neerleggen van de afvalboot. Vanaf dat moment hebben bewoners zes weken de tijd om bezwaar te maken. Garlic Butter Prawns 🦐 Serves: 4 Prep time: 5 mins Cook time: 20 mins Ingredients 1kg raw prawns, peeled and deveined, tails on 1 head of garlic 120g butter 2 bunch asparagus 20ml extra virgin olive oil ½ tsp sweet paprika Sea salt, to season ½ bunch flat leaf parsley Juice of 1 lemon, plus wedges to serve Jasmine rice, to serve Method Step 1: Make the rice and garlic butter Start cooking your rice either on the stove or in a rice cooker. Peel and finely chop the garlic. Add the butter in a large frying pan over low heat. Season the butter with some salt, then add the garlic. Let it melt and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 minutes until soft, sweet and fragrant. Do not allow it to brown. Step 2: Grill the asparagus Trim the ends of the asparagus. Heat a chargrill pan (or standard pan) over high heat with the olive oil. Place the asparagus on the grill, season with some salt and cook for 5 minutes, turning until charred on all sides. Step 3: Cook the prawns Add the prawns to the garlic butter in a single layer, season with salt and sprinkle over the paprika. Increase the heat to medium-high. Cook on the first side for 3 minutes, until they change colour, then stir and turn to cook the other side for 3 minutes. Finely chop the parsley leaves, then add to the pan with the lemon juice. Toss briefly to combine, then remove from the heat. Divide some steamed rice between serving plates. Top with the prawns and drizzle with the garlic butter sauce. Serve with the asparagus on the side and a lemon wedge. #cooking #recipe #weeknight

It shows the East-West Pipeline, also known as the Petroline, a 746 miles (1,201 km)-long 48 inches (120 cm) pipeline that runs from the Abqaiq oil field in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia (near Bahrain and Qatar on the Persian Gulf coast) across the width of the Arabian Peninsula to the Red Sea. It was built during the Iran-Iraq war for Petromin. 0:00 Saudi Arabia, despite being a desert kingdom, has vast proven oil reserves that will fund its ambitious development program for generations. 1:52: The Cat Houston Joint Venture. The joint venture, under contract with Petroline (a division of Petromin), is building the western section of a huge pipeline across Saudi Arabia. Cat Houston's participation involved a $35 million capital outlay for equipment and worker camps. Cat is a Lebanese partnership (founded 1941) experienced in large-scale projects across North/West Africa, Pakistan, and the Middle East, including airports, roads, hospitals, and industrial complexes. Houston Contracting Company (founded 1937, merged with Sedco 1969) is an American pipeline contractor specializing in major gas transmission systems in the US, with expanding worldwide operations. 4:23: Petroline is a 750-mile, $1.6 billion project designed to carry crude oil from the Ghawar fields (Eastern Province) across the kingdom to the west. Initial daily output is 1.85 million barrels, with a forecast expansion to 2.35 million barrels. Cat Houston's first major task was preparing the right-of-way, which involved extensive blasting to cut through rock and mountains. This required drilling holes one meter apart and inserting dynamite charges with delay caps to create a ripple-effect explosion. 5:59. Cat Houston used top-class, often brand-new equipment, such as the Jetco ditcher. The Petroline route is 3,600 km shorter than the sea route around the Arabian Peninsula, providing significant economic justification through reduced transportation costs. Beyond cost savings, the project provides Saudi Arabia with a crude oil export terminal on the Red Sea, giving the kingdom export capabilities on both coasts, reducing tanker traffic in the Gulf, and allowing for greater flexibility in oil distribution. 7:35 After excavation, the next stage was to string the pipes. Huge sections, 48 inches in diameter and 24 meters long, were brought from Yanbu, stored in yards, and then driven, carefully unloaded, and strung along the side of the trench. 8:33 The pipe was laid in tension to prevent it from buckling when the oil begins to flow at a temperature of 80° C. The pipes were bent—a complex operation—and then welded together in 1 km sections, requiring high-order skills and a willingness to work in difficult conditions.
