De letters trokken vanmorgen, ondanks de regen, toch voorbijgangers aan die een foto kwamen maken. "Ik heb ze heel mooi op de foto gezet, met mijn autootje erbij", zegt een van hen. Veel voorbijgangers zeggen juist wel te gaan stemmen. "Voor mij gaan de verkiezingen om het parkeren. We betalen een hoop parkeerbelasting", zegt een buurtbewoner. Aanstaande woensdag kan er zowel gestemd worden voor de gemeenteraad als de stadsdelen - die bekend staan als bestuurscommissies. Tijdens de vorige stadsdeelverkiezingen lag de opkomst in Zuidoost op slechts 27,9 procent. In alle andere stadsdelen was dat percentage hoger. In het centrum kwamen de meeste stemmers, daar lag de opkomst op 51,9 procent. Opkomst vorige stadsdeel- en bestuurscommissieverkiezingen (2022) Centrum: 51,9 procent Nieuw-West: 30,7 procent Noord: 40,9 procent Oost: 49,8 procent Weesp: 54,3 procent West: 43,1 procent Zuid: 49,3 procent Zuidoost: 27,9 procent Kleine kanttekening is dat het stemmen op stadsdelen alleen in het eigen stadsdeel mag en dat een deel van de stemmers uit Zuidoost mogelijk in een ander stadsdeel wel voor de gemeenteraad heeft gestemd. De opkomst in heel Amsterdam was tijdens de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in 2022 46,6 procent. Makelaar Michiel (55) en zijn kater Lex wonen aan ‘t Koningsplein. Beneden een drukke plek, maar boven verrassend stil. Hij woont in het voormalige atelier van warenhuis “Nieuw Engeland” dat er tussen 1899 en medio 1980 zat. Om zijn appartement te bereiken ga je via een chic portaal naar binnen. Hier zat ooit de chocolaterie van J. Bruin, totdat deze in 1936 afbrandde. Bij de renovatie van het Koningsplein liet architect Kees Doornenbal dat historische pandje herbouwen. Tegenwoordig dient het als toegang en trappenhuis voor alle woningen die hier boven de winkels zijn gecreëerd. De binnentuin is ‘s zomers een oase van rust door al ‘t groen, en dat midden in ‘t centrum! Volgens Michiel voelt wonen hier als leven in een museum. Vanuit zijn huis kijkt hij uit over de stad, waar elk gebouw z’n eigen geschiedenis heeft. Geen dag is het uitzicht hetzelfde. De zonsopgang is hier net een film en als ’s avonds de lichtjes in de straten aangaan, ontstaat er een magisch tafereel. Michiel voelt zich bevoorrecht om hier te mogen wonen. Een klein wonder. Zo noemt DOA Dierenasiel de terugkeer van Bengaalse kat Floki. Een klein jaar was hij vermist. Een snel weerzien met zijn baasjes zit er helaas niet in. Zij zitten vanwege de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten nog even vast op hun vakantie-adres in Australië. Een maand of tien geleden ontsnapte kat Floki uit het huis van Sascha en Sander uit de Indische Buurt in Oost. Ze hebben toen alles geprobeerd om hem terug te kijken. "We hebben nachtenlang buiten gestaan, we hebben geflyerd en zelfs camera's opgehangen. Een paar maanden lang zijn we bezig geweest hem terug te vinden, maar niets lukte", vertelt Sascha tijdens het videobellen. Pas een paar dagen geleden, tijdens hun vakantie in Australië, kregen ze het goede nieuws. "Eerst kregen we een hartverzakking, omdat we een gemiste oproep hadden van de dierenambulance", vertelt Sascha. "Maar het bleek goed nieuws. Ze hadden Floki gevonden. We konden het niet geloven." Wat er precies is gebeurd de afgelopen maanden kunnen Sascha en Sander alleen maar naar gissen. Dierverzorger Tessa Kuntz van DOA Dierenasiel vermoedt dat hij tijdelijk ergens anders heeft gewoond. "Ze had een ander halsband om die niet van de eigenaren was. Ook ziet hij er gewoon goed uit. Zijn vacht glimt en hij heeft genoeg gegeten. Misschien heeft iemand hem gewoon in huis genomen. Het gebeurt wel vaker dat raskatten van de straat worden geplukt", vertelt Kuntz. Uiteindelijk is ze door de dierenambulance in West op straat gevonden en naar het asiel gebracht. Omdat Floki gechipt was, kon het asiel de baasjes snel opsporen. "17 procent van de katten die hier binnenkomt, is gechipt en dat maakt het opsporen van de baasjes zoveel makkelijker. Dit bewijst maar weer hoe belangrijk het is dat mensen hun katten chippen", aldus Kuntz. Vast in Australië De baasjes van Floki zijn in ieder geval dolblij, maar moeten nog even wachten op de grote hereniging. Zij kunnen over een paar dagen pas terugvliegen uit Australië vanwege de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten. "Toen we het belletje kregen, wilden we meteen naar huis. Regisseur Sven Bresser en casting director Nathalie Crum ontdekten Knobbe, die in het dagelijks leven rietsnijder is. Nadat ze hem een tijdje volgden, vroegen ze hem de hoofdrol te vertolken.
