Met een nagebouwde botoxkliniek probeert de Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd (IGJ) tijdens de intreeweek studenten bewust te maken van de risico’s van fillers en botox. De boodschap: denk goed na of je het echt wil en kies altijd een goede kliniek. Afgelopen jaar ontving de Inspectie 175 meldingen van mensen bij wie een botox- of fillerbehandeling niet goed was uitgevoerd, vijf keer meer dan het jaar ervoor. Het merendeel van die behandelingen was gedaan door iemand zonder diploma’s. "Filler- en botoxbehandelingen zijn ontzettend populair. Het is eigenlijk een normale beautybehandeling geworden", zegt Rosemarie Jansen van de Inspectie Gezondheidszorg en Jeugd. "Maar het blijven medische ingrepen waar ook risico's aan verbonden zitten." Om jongeren bewust te maken van die risico's heeft de Inspectie in samenwerking met de Tilburg Universiteit een online fillercheck gemaakt, die vandaag ook verspreid werd tijdens het intreeweekfestival op de Jaap Edenbaan. Volgens de studenten zijn die checks - 'wat moet ik van de behandeling weten, zijn de kosten realistisch, hoe graag wil ik dit en is mijn behandelaar betrouwbaar?' - goed dat ze beschikbaar zijn. "Ik heb zelf nooit botox overwogen, maar ik kan me voorstellen dat het voor anderen goed is om een weloverwogen keuze te maken." Anderen zijn ook kritisch op de keuze van de Inspectie om studenten alleen te waarschuwen voor de gevaren, zonder het af te raden. "Het voelt als promotie." Volgens Jansen is het niet aan de overheid om te zeggen wat studenten wel of niet moeten doen. "Maar als je een botox- of fillerbehandeling wil, denk daar dan goed over na. Wie zich op de kruising van de Elandsgracht en de Marnixstraat begeeft, weet het: het is hier vaak een grote chaos. Het kruispunt is de plek in de stad waar de meeste fietsongelukken zijn geregistreerd. In vijf jaar tijd waren er dertig ongelukken waarbij fietsers betrokken waren. Toch komen er geen verkeerslichten. "Ik zie bijna continu kleine ongelukjes gebeuren van fietsers die elkaar raken of auto's die bijna een fietser raken", vertelt een voorbijganger. Een ander vertelt: ""Ik ben al een paar keer van de sokken gereden, met rollator en al". Van alle kanten komen op dit kruispunt weggebruikers aan. Zeker in de ochtendspits tussen 8:00 en 9:00 uur is het enorm druk en chaotisch. Doordat er geen stoplichten staan, zijn vervoersmiddelen afhankelijk van de wegmarkeringen en vooral hun eigen kennis over de verkeersregels. Gedragspsycholoog Karlijn Hoyer, ziet een duidelijke reden waarom dit kruispunt zo gevaarlijk is: "Je ziet wel dat er heel veel gebeurt, dus mensen worden heel erg afgeleid door geluiden van de tram, van de auto's. Je moet overal kijken, want van links kan wat komen. Van rechts kan wat komen, je kan ingehaald worden. De afgelopen zomer zijn daar nieuwe maatregelen bijgekomen. Zo zijn de wegmarkeringen aangepast en opnieuw aangebracht en kwamen er extra waarschuwingsborden voor trams en bussen. Een voor de hand liggende oplossing lijkt een verkeerslicht. Toch kiest de gemeente daar bewust niet voor. Volgens woordvoerder Barbara Verhallen kan de grote hoeveelheid fietsers juist voor flinke opstoppingen zorgen als er verkeerslichten komen. Er rijden veel trams en bussen over het kruispunt, waardoor de wachttijden voor andere verkeersdeelnemers kunnen oplopen. Ook is er volgens Verhallen een risico dat verkeersdeelnemers het rode licht gaan negeren. Dat zou volgens de gemeente juist weer kunnen leiden tot een vorm van schijnveiligheid. Volgens Hoyer moet eerst duidelijk worden waarom het op de kruising zo vaak misgaat: "Ligt het aan de inrichting van de kruising? Dan zou een herontwerp kunnen helpen. Of komt het omdat mensen gewoon te snel rijden? Dan kan je beter een flitspaal neerzetten." Ook in Nederland worden incidenten gekoppeld aan roekeloos rijgedrag op sociale media. The new documentary Runa Simi — "our language" in Quechua — follows Fernando Valencia, a Peruvian voice actor, Indigenous activist, radio host and single father, who has dubbed many online clips of animated movies into Quechua from his home in Cusco, Peru. In the film, Valencia pursues his most ambitious goal yet: to fully dub Disney's animated classic The Lion King into Quechua. "I am sharing our culture to the worldwide culture," says Valencia, who started dubbing films after noticing that Quechua-speaking Indigenous children were watching movies dubbed into Spanish that they couldn't understand. Experts estimate that a language is lost every two weeks — and that half of the world's 7,000 spoken languages could be lost by the end of the century. Quechua is the most widely spoken Indigenous language in the Americas, with approximately 7 to 10 million speakers living primarily in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. But like so many Indigenous languages, Qechua is vulnerable due to cultural pressures and discrimination.
