Of je nu door Centrum, Noord of West loopt: het is je de afgelopen tijd misschien opgevallen dat er steeds meer musea en 'experiences' bij komen in de stad. "Het is zorgelijk dat deze plekken zich een museum noemen." Zo openden afgelopen jaar het Art Zoo Museum, het Museum of Illusions Amsterdam, Barbie: The Dream Experience, Museum Villa, het Suriname Museum, Amsterdam in Motion en Highlights of Holland de deuren. In elk geval vier van de zeven zijn op fotogenieke scènes en 'immersieve ervaringen' gericht. Ervaringsmusea Dat valt kunsthistoricus Joke de Wolf ook op: "Ik zie meer musea en vooral een soort van ervaringsmusea, dus plekken waar je niet per se naartoe gaat voor een collectie of belangrijke kunstwerken, maar om foto's te maken voor sociale media, en daar een experience te hebben." Tomi Hindrinks is manager van het Museum of Illusions Amsterdam, dat sinds juli 2025 in een oud kerkgebouw aan de Keizersgracht huist. Bezoekers kunnen er naar zo'n tachtig optische illusies kijken én er zelf mee aan de slag. Zo is er onder andere een 'vortex-tunnel' en een 'infinity portal'. Volgens Hindrinks kunnen we dit zeker een museum noemen: "Het grote verschil tussen een museum en experience zijn unieke stukken, en die hebben wij ook in ons museum", vertelt hij terwijl hij aan een glazen kunstwerk met verschillende kleuren draait. "Belangrijk is dat het kunstwerk naar de gracht gericht staat, zodat de omgeving ook deel wordt van het kunstwerk." De Wolf: "Aan de ene kant is het heel goed dat er mensen, en vooral toeristen, niet alleen maar wafels en patat eten, maar dat ze ook iets kunnen gaan doen in de stad en misschien iets meer te weten komen over de plek waar ze zijn of de kunstgeschiedenis of culturen, maar aan de andere kant is het ook een beetje zorgelijk dat deze plekken zich allemaal museum noemen. De term museum is in Nederland geen beschermde titel. Het staat elke organisatie dus vrij om die te dragen, maar over het algemeen wordt aangenomen dat een museum een publieke instelling is die kunstwerken verzamelt, conserveert en er onderzoek naar doet. Ook is er vaak een educatieve functie. Tomi Hindriks ziet dat terug in zijn museum: "Het gaat hier over een leuke manier van leren, over optische illusies, over hoe je hersenen werken, hoe je ogen werken, en over perspectief." Commerciële instellingen Uit cijfers van het CBS blijkt dat in 2025 de regio Groot-Amsterdam 100 musea telde, tegenover 75 in 2020. De meeste experience-musea vallen buiten deze telling, omdat het CBS musea definieert als instellingen zonder winstoogmerk. Toeristenmusea en experiences zijn over het algemeen commerciële instellingen. Daar schuilt volgens De Wolf een gevaar in: "Het grootste voorbeeld is natuurlijk het Moco, dat zichzelf ook een museum noemt en ook een hele sterke reclamecampagne voert, midden op het Museumplein, waardoor veel toeristen denken dat dat hét museum voor moderne kunst is, maar het is gewoon een galerie en commerciële instelling. De vraag is of dergelijke experiences mensen die niet vaak naar een museum gaan toch die richting op kunnen trekken. Met haar reactie op de illegale Amerikaans-Israëlische aanval op Iran zette VVD-leider Dilan Yeşilgöz haar coalitiepartners voor de derde keer in drie weken voor het blok. Waar premier Rob Jetten en verantwoordelijk minister Tom Berendsen (CDA) van Buitenlandse Zaken voorsorteerden op terughoudendheid, juichte de nieuwe minister van Defensie de Amerikaans-Israëlische agressie juist toe. Eerder bracht de VVD de coalitie al in verlegenheid door de overwinning in de formatie te claimen op billboards langs de snelweg, gevolgd door een solistische actie van minister van Financiën Eelco Heinen, die verklaarde dat het kabinet de (onder vermogenden) omstreden nieuwe box 3-heffing, die na veel plussen en minnen door de Tweede Kamer was aangenomen, zou schrappen. Opvallend detail: Heinen gaat hier niet over. De heffing valt onder de portefeuille van zijn net aangetreden staatssecretaris van D66. En nu is het de VVD-leider zelf, die in haar nieuwe functie als minister van Defensie, twee van de gouden regels van ieder functionerende kabinet, met voeten heeft getreden: 1. Een minister bemoeit zich niet met het beleidsterrein van een collega. 2. Het kabinet spreekt met één mond. De profileringsdrang van de VVD werkt de indruk dat de partij meer begaan is met het eigen imago dan met het wel en wee van het experimentele minderheidskabinet. Dit is per definitie een probleem voor de nieuwe premier. Om zijn minderheidscoalitie bijeen te houden, en zich daarnaast van de steun te verzekeren van een deel van de oppositie, zal Jetten zich doorlopend pragmatisch moeten opstellen. Met het risico dat de politieke kleur van zijn eigen D66 tijdens deze regeerperiode zal verbleken. Rest de vraag: hoe lang is premier Jetten bereid om de solistische koers van de VVD te dulden? Paprika Chicken And Rice feeds 4 Ingredients ● 1 tbsp tomato paste ● 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil ● 1 tbsp smoked paprika ● ¼ tsp chilli powder ● juice of 1 lemon ● 4 chicken thighs, bone in, skin on ● 1 red onion ● 1 carrot ● 1 cinnamon stick ● 1 tsp ground cumin ● 1 cup longrain rice ● 440ml chicken stock ● 200g baby spinach Method Step 1: Start the chicken Combine the tomato paste, half of the olive oil, paprika, chilli powder and lemon juice in a large bowl. Mix well, then add the chicken and toss to coat the chicken completely. Place the remaining oil in a large heavy-based frying pan and add the chicken, skin side down. Put over a medium heat and cook for 6-8 minutes, until the chicken skin renders and starts to brown. Transfer to a tray. It won’t be completely cooked at this stage but that’s okay as we’ll add it back to the pan soon. Step 2: Cook the sauce Add the rice to a bowl of water, enough so it’s completely covered. Dice the red onion and finely dice the carrot. Add to the pan you cooked the chicken in, and cook for 3 minutes, stirring, until softened. Deglaze the pan with a little of the stock, scraping off the fond from the bottom. Add the cinnamon and cumin, season with some salt and cook for 2 minutes, until aromatic. Drain the rice, add it to the pan and stir through the vegetables to combine well. Add the remaining stock and return the chicken to the pan. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to very low, cover with the lid and cook for 15 minutes. Step 3: Finish and serve Remove the chicken and set aside on a tray. Discard the cinnamon stick. Give the rice a stir, then add the spinach. Cover with the lid again, turn off the heat and let sit for 2 minutes. Uncover and stir the spinach through the rice. Serve with the chicken on top of the rice.

Het ministerie van Economische Zaken geeft al jaren miljoenen subsidie aan één en dezelfde stichting, genaamd ECP, zonder het parlement juist te informeren. Het bestuur van ECP huurt een bedrijf in waar twee stichtingsdirecteuren mede-eigenaar van zijn. Ondanks een eerdere waarschuwing voor de schijn van belangenverstrengeling bleef deze werkwijze ongewijzigd. ECP is een digitaliseringsplatform, mede opgericht door het ministerie. De opluchting is groot als Judith haar vrienden Bas en Ildieke uit Amsterdam weer in de armen sluit. Het stel zat na het uitbreken van de oorlog in Iran vast in het Midden-Oosten en kwam vanochtend via een speciale vlucht van KLM aan op Schiphol. "Ik was bang dat ik ze niet meer zou terugzien." Het stel behoorde tot de ruim 80 mensen die deel uitmaakten van een repatriëringsvlucht vanuit Oman. Zij konden door de oorlog in Iran niet meer thuis komen. In de Perzische Golf is een groot deel van het luchtruim afgesloten. Vluchten tussen Amsterdam en steden zoals Dubai en Doha zijn daarom tot en met donderdag geannuleerd. Nederlanders die in de regio waren konden daardoor niet op een normale manier terug naar Nederland komen. Via het relatief veilige Oman kon dat nog wel. En dus stonden Judith en de zus van Ildieke woensdag al vroeg op Schiphol, om Bas en Ildieke als verrassing op te halen. Het stel zou na een vakantie in Sri Lanka een overstap maken in Doha, maar verder dan Muscat, in Oman, kwamen ze niet. Judith over haar vrienden Bas en Ildieke Daar verbleef het stel drie dagen in een hotel. "Dat vond ik heel spannend", zegt Judith. Ze volgde de gebeurtenissen de afgelopen dagen op de voet. "Ik voelde angst en was bang dat ik ze niet meer terug zou zien. Je weet natuurlijk niet wat er gebeurt in die regio. Wat ik ga doen als ik ze straks zie? Doodknuffelen!" Na lang wachten volgt er een schreeuw als de schuifdeuren zich openen: de hereniging is een feit. "We waren drie dagen gestrand. Dat valt natuurlijk nog wel mee, maar je voelt je toch een beetje ontheemd", zegt Bas. "Dus ik ben blij dat we weer thuis zijn." Ildieke: "Van de onrust zelf hebben we in Oman zelf weinig mee gemaakt, voor ons gevoel zaten we wel op een veilige plek. Waar ik nu zin in heb?
