Ook de fundering wordt vervangen. Het werk duurt tot half april 2026. Ongeveer twee jaar geleden lagen er iets verderop, op de Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, ook stenen los. Dat kwam daar doordat er bij de herinrichting een verkeerd voegmiddel gebruikt was. Vier jaar geleden stemde maar liefst 34% op de twee partijen. Deze gemeenteraadsverkiezingen wordt het interessant om te zien wat de deelname van Floradorps eigen Stem van Amsterdam gaat doen met de uitslag in deze wijk. Lijsttrekker is Patrick van Bronswijk, die doorgaans voorzitter is van het comité dat verantwoordelijk is voor het traditionele vreugdevuur in Floradorp. En laat het nou net dit lokaal gebruik zijn dat de afgelopen jaarwisseling is afgeschaft door burgemeester Halsema. Een handjevol oudere Floradorpers laat in ieder geval weten gecharmeerd te zijn door de nieuwe partij Stem van Amsterdam, en het afnemen van hun traditie is mede onderdeel van hun beslissing, laten zij weten. "Ik begrijp helemaal niet hoe dat zo is gekomen in deze buurt", zegt bewoner Henk Hollander. Hij duidt op het feit dat GroenLinks-PvdA de grootste is in de wijk. "Wat ik merk is dat er veel meer yuppen komen wonen. En dat doet iets met de saamhorigheid. Wij stonden vroeger altijd voor elkaar klaar in de buurt, iedereen hielp elkaar. Dat doe ik nog steeds voor mijn buren, maar dat doet nu alleen nog het oude volk." De gentrificatie van Noord is een feit en nog steeds gaande. Derk Ottens hekelt deze ontwikkeling. "Zij met die hogere inkomens pakken de huizen af van mensen die hier horen te wonen. Dat is hetzelfde als wat ze hebben gedaan met de Jordaan. De Jordaan is ook de Jordaan niet meer. Ze vinden het leuk, verhuizen ernaartoe en verkankeren de hele buurt." Dat Derks kinderen inmiddels vertrokken zijn, betekent dat het verhaal van zijn familie in Floradorp binnenkort een keer tot een einde gaat komen. "Dat vind ik vervelend. De gemeenteraadsverkiezingen op 18 maart vallen dit jaar samen met de ramadan. Omdat sommige moskeebezoekers zich na hun werkdag en het verbreken van het vasten moeten haasten naar de stembus, wordt het nachtgebed in twee Turkse moskeeën in de stad een uur later gehouden. "We willen niet dat mensen moeten kiezen tussen hun geloof en hun burgerplicht." "Om half zeven verbreken we het vasten. Daarna moeten ze het avondgebed doen en daarna moeten ze naar de moskee komen voor het nachtgebed", vertelt Mehmet Cilizoglu van de Mescid-I-Aksa Moskee in Nieuw-West. Het nachtgebed wordt normaliter om 20.30 uur in de moskee gedaan, maar omdat de stembussen tot 21.00 uur open zijn, is besloten het gebed om 21.30 uur te laten plaatsvinden op de verkiezingsavond. "Door het nachtgebed iets later te plannen, geven we iedereen de ruimte om eerst te gaan stemmen en daarna in alle rust naar de moskee te komen. Een kleine aanpassing met een belangrijke boodschap." Moskeebezoekers die AT5 bij het middaggebed in Nieuw-West spreekt, zijn enthousiast. "Goed idee. Een uur later bidden zodra de stemtijd op is", aldus een van hen. Een ander: "Het is belangrijk om te kijken naar alle mogelijkheden die er zijn om ervoor te zorgen dat mensen naar het stembureau gaan. Dat de moskee daaraan meehelpt door het gebed een uur later te doen, zal ervoor zorgen dat ik na m'n werk nog even kan gaan stemmen." De Ulu Camii Moskee in Oost heeft zich bij het initiatief aangesloten, net als dertien Turkse moskeeën in andere delen van het land. Het bestuur wil daarbij benadrukken dat het aan iedereen zelf is op wie ze gaan stemmen. "Wat iemand stemt, is een persoonlijke keuze.
