"It's quite a devastating attack on the infrastructure of the country, both in terms of the state infrastructure and civilian infrastructure," says Golnar Nikpour, associate professor of modern Iranian history at Dartmouth College. She notes that far from leading to a popular uprising against the government, as President Trump has encouraged, the U.S.-Israeli attacks have forced Iranians to worry about their immediate safety from the bombs. "These attacks are causing much suffering for Iranian people, and it's destroying the space in which Iranians were struggling for social justice and civil liberties," says Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi, a fierce critic of the government who was once imprisoned on death row in Iran but who nevertheless opposes the war. "I'm very pessimistic about the possibility of a regime change in Iran without having a clear idea of what is going to replace it." According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, more than 550 people have been killed in Iran since Saturday, when the U.S. and Israel began an intense bombing campaign and assassinated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A number of other top Iranian officials have also been killed. Iran has retaliated by launching missiles targeting Israel, as well as U.S. allies across the region, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Cyprus, where an Iranian drone hit a British air base. Yukkie B was al langere tijd ziek. Zijn ex-vriendin startte afgelopen maand een crowdfunding om geld in te zamelen voor zijn afscheid; hij was niet verzekerd. Er is al bijna 17.000 euro ingezameld. We asked a few young people which countries in Europe they consider "lazy" and which they consider "hard-working" – and how you even determine that. Some said that one measure could be gross domestic product (GDP), for example. Currently, Germany has the highest GDP per capita in the EU and Cyprus the lowest. When it comes to measuring work ethic, average working hours per week are often used as a metric. Looking at how many hours per week people work, Greeks work the most at an average of 39.8 hours per week, while people in the Netherlands work the least at 32.1 hours per week. Many also feel that it's not about "laziness" at all, but rather that some countries simply have a better work-life balance. Italy and Portugal were mentioned as examples. Wereldwijd waren er veel vreugdevolle reacties op het overlijden van ayatollah Khamenei, maar volgens deze kenners is een echte regime change moeilijk haalbaar omdat de Revolutionaire Garde diep verankerd zit in de maatschappij. En mocht het regime omver geworpen kunnen worden, liggen interne conflicten op de loer.

Teriyaki pork Feeds 2 adults and 2 children. Ingredients 2 pork tenderloins (approximately 800g) sea salt and cracked white pepper, to season 2 tbsp peanut oil 3 garlic cloves 2 spring onions 1½ tbsp sake 60ml (¼ cup) soy sauce 60ml (¼ cup) mirin 1 tbsp honey 1 tsp sesame oil To serve 2 cups (400g) short-grain rice 500ml (2 cups) water 2 cups finely shredded cabbage 1 tsp sesame oil Sea salt, to season 2 tsp rice vinegar 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds 1 Lebanese cucumber Method Step 1: Cook the rice Place the rice in a fine colander or sieve and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. Transfer to a rice cooker with the water and turn on to cook. When the rice cooker finishes, leave the rice to steam for 10 minutes before serving. Step 2: Cook the pork Trim the silver skin from the pork tenderloins. Cut into medallions approximately 3cm thick. Season well with salt and white pepper. Heat half the peanut oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the pork and cook for 3 minutes, turning, until well seared on both sides. Transfer to a tray and set aside Step 3: Cook the sauce Finely chop the garlic, then finely chop the whites of the spring onions. Thinly slice the greens of the spring onion and set aside. Heat the remaining oil in the pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and spring onion whites. Cook for 1-2 minutes to soften. Deglaze the pan with the sake, scraping off the frond from the base. Stir in the soy, mirin, honey and sesame oil. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Return the pork to the pan and increase the heat to medium-high. Turn the pork in the sauce to glaze all over and cook for a few minutes, until the sauce thickens. Turn off the heat and stir through the greens of the spring onions. Step 4: Finish and serve Combine the shredded cabbage and sesame seeds in a large bowl. Pour over the sesame oil, rice vinegar and season with some salt, toss well to combine. Thinly slice the cucumber. To serve, divide some steamed rice between serving plates, then add some of the cabbage on the side and the cucumber. Top with the pork and drizzle with the sauce.

Het ziet eruit als een tijdelijke afsluiting, maar inmiddels is het fietspad op de Plantage Middenlaan in Centrum al ruim vier jaar dicht. Fietsers dienen gebruik te maken van een fietsstraat, waar auto's te gast zijn. Waarom er verder niets met de straat gebeurt, is voor veel buurtbewoners onduidelijk. Het fietspad werd destijds afgesloten vanwege werkzaamheden aan het Nationaal Holocaustmuseum en het Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam. Tijdens die werkzaamheden zijn op het fietspad keien geplaatst als antiterreurmaatregel. Drie jaar geleden werd bekend dat het een fietsstraat zou worden: auto's en fietsers samen op de rijbaan, en een bredere stoep. Nog altijd is het oorspronkelijke fietspad afgezet met verkeersborden. Onder fietsers en buurtbewoners groeit ondertussen de frustratie. "Waarom het zo lang zo moeilijk moet, weet ik niet”, zegt een fietser die dagelijks gebruikmaakt van de route. Een buurtbewoner vult aan: "Het ziet er armoedig uit, vind ik zo". Fietsstraat Volgens een woordvoerder van stadsdeel Centrum is het plan om de straat eind dit jaar officieel in te richten als fietsstraat. Daarbij worden de stoep en het voormalige fietspad samengevoegd tot één brede stoep, waardoor er meer ruimte ontstaat voor voetgangers. Als het lukt om dit jaar te starten met de herinrichting, kan het snel gaan. De uitvoering van de transformatie naar een officiële fietsstraat zou ongeveer vier maanden in beslag nemen. Nog altijd is het oorspronkelijke fietspad afgezet met verkeersborden.
