Bewoners van een flat aan de Theodoor Hoytemastraat in Nieuw-West moesten vannacht plotseling hun woning evacueren. 55 woningen werden ontruimd door een grote brand in de parkeergarage onder de flat. Er is inmiddels een verdachte aangehouden. Het gaat om een 26-jarige Amsterdammer. De brand brak om 02.45 uur uit, en de brandweer schaalde snel op naar een grote brand. Om 03.00 uur werd grip 1 afgekondigd. Die melding wordt uitgegeven bij grote incidenten waarbij hulpdiensten gecoördineerd met elkaar moeten samenwerken. De brand vond plaats in een parkeergarage onder een woonblok, en omdat er veel rookontwikkeling was, moesten de bewoners van de bovenliggende woningen geëvacueerd worden. Sommigen van hen zijn nagekeken door ambulancepersoneel, een iemand moest naar het ziekenhuis. Omdat de constructie van het gebouw is aangetast, kunnen bewoners voorlopig nog niet terug naar huis. Onduidelijk is nog wanneer dat wel weer kan, maar volgens een woordvoerder van de Veiligheidsregio Amsterdam-Amstelland is de verwachting sowieso niet dat zij voor het weekend kunnen terugkeren. 🇫🇷 Have images come up on your feed of police violence against high school students in France? On October 2, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez initially claimed on national television that there were “no orders to exercise restraint” and defended the use of non-lethal weapons against protesters. Except that, three days later, a high school student lost his hand due to a stun grenade. Pending the results of the investigation, the use of these grenades has been suspended. But law enforcement continues to use other so-called “intermediate weapons”. The incident—which is not the first of its kind at a protest—has reignited criticism of the tactics employed by French police to control crowds during protests. NGOs, left-wing elected officials and protesters are all calling for a ban or a permanent suspension of these weapons. And a petition to “ban maiming weapons and lethal immobilization techniques during high school protests” has surpassed 130,000 signatures on the French parliament’s official platform. Bewoners met zorgen over de reeks explosies en andere geweldsincidenten in Nieuw-West konden donderdag hun verhaal kwijt bij een koffiekar van de gemeente. Locoburgemeester Sofyan Mbarki deelt de zorgen van de bewoners en zegt dat hij alles op alles zet om het geweld te laten stoppen: "Het is onacceptabel en gekmakend." Een handjevol bewoners komt donderdagmiddag naar de koffiekar die naar stadsboerderij Osdorp is gereden. Vooral veel mensen van de gemeente, politie en jongerenwerk staan klaar. "De koffie is goed", lacht Aissah uit Osdorp. "De explosies van de laatste weken en maanden doen veel met me. Dus ik vind het fijn om hierover te kunnen praten met andere bewoners, maar ook met de gemeente." Rivaliserende jeugdgroepen De laatste weken zijn er met name in Osdorp veel explosies bij woningen. Zoals op de Botteskerksingel: de portiek raakte compleet beschadigd en de gevel was zwartgeblakerd. Op de muur waren de letters 'BVL' opgespoten. Het vermeende conflict in Nieuw-West zou gaan tussen twee rivaliserende jeugdgroepen. Een uit Osdorp en een uit Slotermeer. De groep uit Slotermeer zou zich BVL noemen, de Osdorpers zouden bekendstaan als OSD. "Dit is gewoon heel onveilig", zegt wethouder Mbarki, die naast locoburgemeester ook het Masterplan Nieuw-West in zijn portefeuille heeft. "Dit moet stoppen, want er gaan dodelijke slachtoffers vallen. Onschuldige. En dat wil je niet." Vetes Een bewoonster van de flat aan de Botteskerksingel sprak vorige week al in bij het stadsdeel, maar wilde toch nog even naar de koffiekar komen. "Gelukkig ben ik niet zo angstig aangelegd, maar ik word er wel verdrietig van. Ik hoor van meerdere buren dat ze het liefst willen verhuizen. Dat is verdrietig voor een buurt waar ik al zo lang met veel plezier woon." "Dat maakt het ook zo pijnlijk. Dat mensen die gewoon van hun buurt willen genieten, meegenomen worden in dit soort vetes", concludeert Mbarki. Vandaag maakte de gemeente bekend extra cameratoezicht te plaatsen op vijf plekken in Nieuw-West na de aanhoudende incidenten. Ook zijn extra politieagenten, jongerenwerkers en handhaving ingezet. De gemeente zegt dertig jongeren in beeld te hebben die mogelijk betrokken zijn bij de explosies en de overlast. In Rioja Alta, I look at the influence of the Ebro River, Sierra de la Demanda, Oja and Najerilla valleys, along with important wine centres including Logroño, Haro and Cenicero. I also explore Haro’s historic Barrio de la Estación and producers including López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, Cune (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España), Gómez Cruzado, Bodegas Bilbaínas and La Rioja Alta. Moving north of the Ebro, I explore Rioja Alavesa in Álava, including the influence of the Sierra de Cantabria and Sierra de Toloño, its limestone-rich soils, higher-altitude vineyards and the wine towns of Laguardia and Elciego. I also mention Bodegas Remelluri as an example of high-elevation viticulture in the area. Finally, I head to Rioja Oriental, formerly widely known as Rioja Baja, where the warmer and drier climate favours Garnacha Tinta. I look at its alluvial and ferrous-clay soils, high-altitude vineyards around the Sierra de Yerga and Sierra de la Hez, and the towns of Alfaro and Calahorra.
