Mahdawi grew up in a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank and was an outspoken critic of Israel’s genocide in Gaza while attending Columbia. We begin with an Ashley Sanders guitar from Australia, a lattice-braced instrument with Australian Blackwood back and sides. It impresses with its powerful projection, quick response, and remarkable sustain, while maintaining a sweet brightness and an almost Spanish character in its tone. Combined with its clean build and comfortable neck profile, it’s a guitar that feels as inviting as it sounds. From there, we move to Valencia, Spain, to discover a S. Aboutalebian double-top guitar (No. 65). Featuring a cedar top and Indian rosewood back and sides, this instrument is built with a balsa core instead of Nomex, resulting in a particularly woody, round, and compact sound. Smooth, even, and deeply expressive, it offers a different tonal philosophy—less brilliance, more warmth and depth—while still delivering the power and responsiveness expected from a double top. We close the episode with two Siccas Luthiers Recital Traditional models in a 63 cm scale length, presented in both cedar and spruce versions. These guitars embody a refined, traditional aesthetic, offering balance, clarity, and subtle differences in sustain and color between the two top woods. They round off the selection beautifully, bridging modern innovation and traditional craftsmanship. De wijk Amstel III in Zuidoost is in korte tijd veranderd van een kantorengebied in een woonwijk. Bewoners van het gloednieuwe gebouw The Bridge die een auto hebben, lopen alleen nu al tegen een probleem aan: een parkeerplek vinden blijkt een flinke uitdaging. Parkeerplekken zijn schaars, de tarieven hoog en parkeervergunningen zijn niet te krijgen. Bewoners zetten daarom auto's op het gras, langs de weg en breken een slagboom open. "Je verwacht een bepaalde verantwoordelijkheid van de gemeente als die een woonwijk gaat bouwen aan de randen van de stad. Hier zijn mensen afhankelijk van een auto", zegt Jochem, bewoner van The Bridge. Het dichtstbijzijnde openbaar vervoer ligt op ongeveer tien minuten lopen van het gebouw. Volgens cijfers van de gemeente ligt de parkeerdruk in dit gebied doordeweeks en ’s avonds rond de 95 procent. Dat betekent dat het overgrote deel van de beschikbare plekken bezet is. Voor bewoners van nieuwbouwprojecten, zoals The Bridge, zijn parkeervergunningen niet beschikbaar. Volgens bewoner van het gebouw, Jamal, is dit ook gelijk tegen de bewoners gezegd: “Dat is ook zo gecommuniceerd door de verhuurder, ik wist het. Er is een wooncrisis, dus je hebt niet de positie dat je kan zeggen: ik neem het niet. Veel mensen nemen wat ze kunnen nemen”, zegt hij. Bij het ontwikkelen van nieuwe woongebieden in onze gemeente wordt de Amsterdamse nota Parkeernormen auto toegepast. Hierin zijn de parkeernormen opgenomen die voor nieuwe ontwikkelingen gelden. Er worden geen parkeervergunningen verstrekt. Parkeren vindt plaats in de parkeervoorziening behorend bij de woningen/kantoren. Er is geen parkeerplaats op het maaiveld. Voor mensen met een beperking zal wel een uitzondering worden gemaakt. 🇬🇧 Former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested Thursday 19 Feb, the day of his birthday, because of his involvement in the Epstein files, and specifically on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The fallen British royal, brother to King Charles III, is suspected of having allegedly shared confidential documents to human trafficker and child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This arrest comes on top of the allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against Andrew following accusations by Virginia Giuffre, the main witness in the Epstein case, who committed suicide in 2025. Since the release of more than 3 million documents relating to the Epstein case, European royal families have been in the spotlight: Four European monarchies appear in the files. 🇳🇴 In Norway, Mette-Marit, wife of Crown Prince Haakon, is mentioned at least a thousand times in the Epstein documents. The princess corresponded regularly with Jeffrey Epstein between 2011 and 2014. She also met him several times at his villa in Florida in 2013, after the American had already been convicted of sex trafficking. 🇸🇪 Princess Sofia of Sweden, wife of the son of King Carl XVI Gustaf, is also said to have met Jeffrey Epstein twice some twenty years ago. At the time, Sofia Hellqvist was a model and actress, and she reportedly met the financier in the course of her work. 🇧🇪 For his part, Prince Laurent, brother of King Philippe of Belgium, reportedly thwarted Epstein's ambitions concerning the Belgian royal family. The American allegedly tried to corrupt the prince and wanted to meet his parents to discuss financial matters. The two men nevertheless met on two occasions, something that the prince overtly recognised in an official declaration after part of the Epstein files were made public.

Het Openbaar Ministerie (OM) heeft 240 uur taakstraf en een rijontzegging van een jaar geëist tegen een 45-jarige man uit Hoofddorp. De man, een chauffeur van een vuilniswagen van stadsreiniging, wordt verdacht van het veroorzaken van een dodelijk ongeval op de Passeerdersgracht. Daarbij kwam een 69-jarige Amerikaanse vrouw om het leven kwam. De Amerikaanse vrouw, die voor haar werk bij streamingsplatform Twitch in de stad is, loopt op 14 oktober 2024 nietsvermoedend over de Prinsengracht richting de Leidsegracht. Vlak naast de brug bij de Passeerdersgracht gaat het gruwelijk mis. Als de vrouw over wil steken, wordt ze geschept door een vuilniswagen die de bocht om komt rijden. De chauffeur die in zijn eentje in de vuilniswagen reed, was vanaf de Prinsengracht op weg naar het Raamplein om glas op te halen. Als blijkt dat de rechterzijde van de Passeerdersgracht gestremd is voor verkeer, besluit de bestuurder tegen het verkeer in de andere zijde van de Passeerdersgracht op te rijden. De chauffeur had daar een speciale ontheffing voor. "Hij heeft onvoldoende opgelet of de weg vrij was en het slachtoffer daardoor niet gezien" Officier van justitie Precies op het moment dat de vuilnisman zijn vrachtwagen de Passeerdersgracht op wil rijden, steekt de Amerikaanse vrouw vanaf de stoep de weg over. Omstanders maken aan de chauffeur duidelijk dat hij iemand aan heeft gereden en schakelen hulpdiensten in. Het slachtoffer blijkt dan al te zijn overleden. Strafrechtelijke verantwoordelijk Het OM houdt de verdachte verantwoordelijk voor het ongeluk waarbij het 69-jarige slachtoffer om het leven kwam. "De verdachte heeft haar kunnen en moeten zien", benadrukt de officier van justitie vandaag in de rechtbank. "Hij heeft onvoldoende opgelet of de weg vrij was en het slachtoffer daardoor niet gezien." Volgens de officier van justitie moet de chauffeur het slachtoffer al eerder hebben gezien, omdat hij enkele meters stapvoets naast haar zou hebben gereden op de Prinsengracht. "Bij het afslaan van de straat in tegengestelde richting is extra voorzichtigheid geboden", zegt de officier van justitie. "Zeker als een beroepschauffeur." Het OM stelt dat de ontheffing die de chauffeur had om tegen de richting in te rijden vanwege de wegopbreking in dit geval niet geldig was. "De ontheffing mag alleen gebruikt worden voor het werk en bij het oplossen van noodsituaties. Een wegopbreking is geen noodsituatie." Contact met nabestaande De 45-jarige verdachte, die vandaag aanwezig was bij de zitting, ontkent dat hij niet goed zou hebben opgelet toen hij met zijn vrachtwagen de Passeerdersgracht op draaide. "Ik heb dat zeker gedaan. Dat zit mij ook de hele tijd dwars." De man kan het nog altijd niet geloven. "Ik heb haar helemaal niet gezien", legt hij uit aan de rechter. "Ik heb daar zoveel over nagedacht hoe ik dat niet heb kunnen zien. Ik ben er echt ziek van." Zijn advocaat vraagt de rechtbank de rijontzegging niet op te leggen, omdat de man het voor zijn werk en privéleven nodig heeft. "Ik kan de chauffeur vergeven, maar uiteindelijk moet hij zichzelf vergeven" weduwnaar De verdachte krijgt psychische hulp, maar heeft verder met nog maar weinig mensen gepraat over het dodelijke ongeluk. "Mijn dochter weet het niet en mijn eigen vrienden weten het niet", vertelt de chauffeur. "Ook aan mijn ouders heb ik het niet verteld." Vergiffenis De Amerikaanse weduwnaar was vandaag zelf ook aanwezig in de rechtbank. "Ik ben voor het eerst sinds het ongeluk in de stad", legt de man geëmotioneerd uit. "Het was een moeilijke reis. Een die gemaakt moest worden om de plek te bezoeken en een verklaring af te geven." "Mijn diepe hoop is dat uit het vreselijke verlies iets goeds kan ontstaan", zegt hij tegen de rechter. De man hoopt dat er meer regels komen voor vrachtwagenchauffeurs in de stad. Zo wil hij onder meer een bijrijder naast de chauffeur in de cabine die goed op de weg kan letten en geluidssignalen op het voertuig als dat tegen de richting in rijdt. "Ik kan de chauffeur vergeven", benadrukt de weduwnaar op het einde van zijn verklaring. "Maar uiteindelijk moet hij zichzelf vergeven. Ik hoop dat hij de plek en ruimte vindt om dat te doen."
