Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was previously sued in 2021 by Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of multiple instances of sexual assault when she was underage. The lawsuit was settled out of court shortly after it was filed, but Mountbatten-Windsor was allowed to keep his royal title and privileges at the time. Those were recently stripped following revelations about the extent of his friendship with the American serial sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Their friendship has been widely known to the public since at least 2008, when Epstein was first convicted for soliciting a minor for sex. British authorities are now reportedly investigating whether Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential government information with Epstein in 2010 while serving as a U.K. trade representative. “This is a story about sex trafficking, about the abuse of numerous women, and it seems like where justice might be brought, it's on a different charge, which is sharing confidential information with a powerful person,” says Novara Media’s Michael Walker. Viskraam De Nieuwe Vangst van Renger Debens wordt geplaagd door ratten. De dieren graven zoveel gaten rond zijn viskraam, dat hij dagelijks gaten opvult met cement. Het is al de tweede zak beton die Renger Debens van viskraam De Nieuwe Vangst in de rattenholen achter zijn viskraam stort. Het zand waar zijn vrouw een klein tuintje met lavendel had aangelegd gebruikt hij nu om het cement mee te mengen. Of het zin heeft? "Nee, want morgen zit het gat weer op een andere plek", zegt Debens terwijl hij zijn schouders ophaalt. En dan verzakt ook nog eens zijn viskraam. Dat is vooral te merken aan de schuifdeur, die bijna niet meer opengaat. "Mijn vrouw kan de kraam niet meer openen, want zij krijgt de deur niet meer alleen open." Meldingen gemaakt Debens heeft meerdere meldingen gedaan bij de gemeente en bij het marktbureau. De GGD, verantwoordelijk voor de rattenbestrijding, is langs geweest bij De Nieuwe Vangst, maar kan niks doen voor de viskraameigenaar. "We vinden het heel vervelend voor de ondernemer, maar wij kunnen dit niet oplossen. Ratten komen nu eenmaal naar plekken waar ze kunnen eten en slapen." De woordvoerder laat weten dat de zichtbare verzakkingen aan de kraam niet door ratten zijn veroorzaakt. "Ratten zijn een symptoom van een ander probleem. Maar waar die verzakkingen door komen, kunnen wij niet beoordelen." Ook de gemeente kan daar nu geen antwoord op geven, laat een woordvoerder van stadsdeel Nieuw-West weten. Wel staat er een onderzoek naar de oorzaak van de verzakking op de planning. Elektriciteitskabels Eerst werd hij vooral gek van de rattenholen, maar nu blijkt dat de GGD niet zoveel kan doen, ligt hij er ook echt wakker van. "Zondag en maandag zijn we dicht, dus als ik op dinsdag bij de kraam kom, hoop ik dat ze geen elektriciteitskabels hebben doorgebeten. Het Openbaar Ministerie eist vijf jaar gevangenisstraf tegen Leroy S. en drie jaar met tbs tegen Ramsey W. voor medewerking aan een gewelddadige overval. Een 71-jarige vrouw werd in Zuidoost in haar woning vastgetapet en haar hond en pinpas werden meegenomen. Beide verdachten ontkennen vandaag dat ze in de woning waren. Eind december 2023 wordt aan het eind van de ochtend aangebeld aan het Huigenbos in Zuidoost. Een 'pakketbezorger' vertelt dat hij een pakketje heeft. Een 71-jarige vrouw laat hem binnen en wordt gelijk tegen de grond geduwd. Met tape maakt hij haar enkels en polsen vast en sleept hij haar over de grond. Haar pinpas gooit hij naar buiten, waar iemand hem opvangt en meeneemt. Het oudere slachtoffer was vandaag aanwezig in de rechtbank en oogde zichtbaar aangedaan. Ze koos ervoor geen gebruik te maken van haar spreekrecht. Volgens haar advocaat wil ze zo snel mogelijk een veroordeling, zodat ze dit achter zich kan laten. Pinnen De verdachte die zich had verkleed als pakketbezorger was eerder al veroordeeld voor de gewelddadige overval. Hij kreeg toen een gevangenisstraf van vijf jaar. Die straf heeft hij nooit uitgezeten, omdat hij februari vorig jaar overleed. Vandaag stonden de twee mannen voor de rechter die verdacht worden van het medeplegen van de overval. Zij zouden met de pinpas op verschillende plekken hebben geprobeerd te pinnen. Maar toen dat niet lukte, zouden zij alsnog de woning binnen zijn gegaan om geld over te maken naar zichzelf. Dat zou gaan om een bedrag van bijna vijfduizend euro. Hond in zak Pas om 18:30 uur zou het drietal haar woning hebben verlaten. "Dan ziet ze ook dat ze haar hond meenemen in een zak. Tegen haar wordt gezegd dat ze op maandag de hond zou terugkrijgen als ze 15.000 in een tasje over het balkon zou gooien", aldus de officier van justitie. Door DNA-sporen van de inmiddels overleden overvaller werd de hond snel teruggevonden in het huis van de overvaller. De twee verdachten die vandaag terechtstonden, ontkennen dat ze in de woning zijn geweest. Een maand voor de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen lijken de PvdA en GroenLinks de beste papieren te hebben om de grootste partij te worden in de stad, met D66 kort daarachter. Dat blijkt uit een peiling van O&S, uitgevoerd in opdracht van AT5 en Het Parool. De VVD verliest in deze peiling een zetel, en BIJ1 zou fors inleveren ten opzichte van vier jaar geleden, maar wel één zetel behouden. De PvdA zou 17,8% van de stemmen halen als er nu verkiezingen zouden zijn, gevolgd door GroenLinks met 16,2%. D66 zou op 15,4% uitkomen. Dat blijkt uit een representatieve peiling van O&S onder 1176 Amsterdammers. Daarmee lijken - een maand voor de verkiezingen - de verhoudingen tussen de huidige coalitiepartijen in de Stopera vrijwel gelijk te blijven: PvdA en GroenLinks behouden in deze peiling respectievelijk hun 9 en 8 zetels, D66 zou er een zetel bij krijgen en komt daarmee op 8. Wat wel opvalt, is dat D66 in deze peiling opvallend slechter scoort dan bij de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen in oktober, toen de partij nog bijna 24% van de stemmen haalde in de stad. Stijging op rechts De Partij voor de Dieren en JA21 lijken meer stemmen te gaan halen dan bij de vorige verkiezingen, en zouden er allebei een zetel bij krijgen. Ook Forum voor Democratie zit in de lift, maar blijft op één zetel staan. Of de recente boycot van FvD door bijna alle Amsterdamse partijen daar invloed op heeft, valt niet te zeggen, omdat de peiling van O&S is afgenomen voordat FvD in de ban werd gedaan. VVD daalt Opvallende verliezer is de VVD: volgens deze eerste peiling zou die partij nog maar op de stem van 7,4% van de Amsterdammers kunnen rekenen, tegenover 10,5% in 2022. Dat zou de partij een zetel kosten. Ook BIJ1 verliest fors, maar zou genoeg stemmen behouden voor één zetel in de gemeenteraad. De twee afsplitsingen van BIJ1: De Vonk en De Partij voor Morgen, lijken niet genoeg stemmen voor een zetel te behalen. Datzelfde geldt voor Partij voor de Ouderen, ChristenUnie, 50PLUS en BBB. Geen lokale partijen Aan de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen doet dit jaar een recordaantal van 35 partijen mee. Opvallend is dat het lokale partijen als Hart voor Amsterdam of Namens Amsterdammers niet lijkt te lukken om een voet tussen de deur te krijgen in Amsterdam. Net als vier jaar geleden lijken lokale partijen dus geen enkele zetel te halen. Doordat de partijen in de peilingen zo dicht bij elkaar liggen, zal veel afhangen van de opkomst. Met name flankpartijen als Denk profiteren van een hogere opkomst. Die partij blijft in de huidige peilingen op twee zetels staan. Bovendien maken kiezers traditioneel pas kort voor de stembusgang hun definitieve keuze. Woningmarkt als grootste zorg Net als voorgaande jaren vindt bijna de helft (49%) van de respondenten dat het de verkeerde kant opgaat met Amsterdam. Over Nederland zijn de respondenten nog negatiever: 65% van hen ziet het land de verkeerde kant op gaan. De helft van de deelnemers baseert hun partijvoorkeur vooral op de situatie in Amsterdam, maar laat ook de landelijke politiek in Den Haag meewegen. O&S peilde ook over welke onderwerpen Amsterdammers zich het meeste zorgen maken.
