Ze hangen er al jaren en toch weet niemand wat ze nou betekenen. Twee rechthoekige verkeersborden op de Beukenweg in Oost zorgen daar nog altijd voor verbaasde reacties. Iemand op forum Reddit liet het er niet bij zitten en vroeg internetgebruikers én AT5 om hulp. De borden, een blauwe en een gele, met abstracte witte lijnen, zorgen nog altijd voor verbazing. De reacties tegen AT5 lopen uiteen van "Ik weet bij God niet wat dit betekent" tot "Ik vraag me af of het überhaupt een bord is". Ook een rijinstructeur heeft geen idee en twijfelt of hij zijn kennis moet bijspijkeren. Een gebruiker van het forum Reddit brak ook haar hoofd over de betekenis en vroeg om hulp. "Is dit kunst? Wat is dit?" Ze zou in eerste instantie van een ambtenaar te horen hebben gekregen dat het om een bord zou gaan om snelle fietsers naar de rijbaan te verplaatsen, maar dat blijkt toch niet helemaal te kloppen. Uiteindelijk wist iemand anders op Reddit wat het nou wel echt is: een werk van dezelfde kunstenaar die jaren geleden een raadselachtig 'verkeersbord' in de vorm van een ei plaatste bij het IJ. Het ei is weg, maar de werken in Oost bleven al die tijd staan. "Ze zijn heel lang onder de radar gebleven", vertelt Teun Castelein, de kunstenaar in kwestie, aan de telefoon. Hij vindt het 'bijna jammer' dat ze zijn ontdekt. Miljoenen verkeersborden Het idee voor het project ontstond na een krantenartikel jaren geleden, over de miljoenen verkeersborden in Nederland, waarvan een steeds groter deel eigenlijk overbodig zou zijn. "Dan kunnen er nog wel een paar bij", dacht Castelein, die vervolgens ging fantaseren over hoe de werken er dan uit moesten zien. Om de verwarring te vergroten, liet hij ze allemaal produceren door een officiële verkeersbordenfabrikant. Het plaatsen van zijn creaties in Oost was nog even spannend. Medewerkers van de gemeente, ironisch genoeg verantwoordelijk voor het plaatsen van verkeersborden, zagen Castelein in actie en vroegen hem om opheldering. "Ik dacht: kut, ik ben er bij. En ik zei: ja dat is voor evenementen. En toen zeiden ze iets van: oké, dat zal dan wel." Lachend: "Maar na jaren is er nog steeds geen evenement." De gemeente gedoogt de borden. "Dit soort kunstuitingen zien we wel vaker in de stad. Zolang het veilig is en niet extreem uit de toon valt, kan het net als street-art de openbare ruimte verfraaien", schrijft stadsdeelbestuurder Jan-Bert Vroege in een reactie aan AT5. "En dus ook nog jaren na plaatsing voor verrassing en discussie zorgen. Eén op de vier Nederlanders leeft met chronische pijn. Dat zijn ruim drie miljoen mensen, en dat aantal stijgt. Het gaat om uiteenlopende klachten, van artrose en aanhoudende rug- of nekpijn tot soms onverklaarbare zenuwpijn. Chronische pijn is niet altijd fysiek of klinisch aantoonbaar; volgens deskundigen spelen ook sociale, psychologische en existentiële factoren een rol. Toch voelen veel patiënten zich niet serieus genomen en wordt er volgens experts vaak pas laat gericht onderzoek gedaan. Tegelijkertijd gebruiken in Nederland rond de miljoen mensen zware, verslavende pijnstillers zoals oxycodon en fentanyl. Deze opioïden, verwant aan stoffen die zijn gemaakt van de papaverplant, worden regelmatig voorgeschreven om chronische pijn te dempen. Nieuwe cijfers van de Stichting Farmaceutische Kengetallen laten zien dat ongeveer 200.000 mensen deze middelen langdurig, langer dan een maand, gebruiken. Volgens pijnspecialisten kan langdurig gebruik leiden tot afhankelijkheid en in sommige gevallen zelfs tot verergering van de pijn. In Zembla spreken gerenommeerde pijnspecialisten openhartig over de complexiteit van pijnbehandeling. Wat bij de ene patiënt werkt, heeft bij de ander geen effect. Artsen beschrijven het gevoel van machteloosheid wanneer zij patiënten tegenover zich hebben voor wie geen eenvoudige oplossing bestaat. Vrijwel alle experts waarschuwen voor de risico’s van langdurig opiatengebruik en pleiten voor meer terughoudendheid bij het voorschrijven. Hoogleraar Pijn en Palliatieve Geneeskunde Kris Vissers van het Radboudumc noemt de persoonlijke en maatschappelijke kosten van chronische pijn groot. Samen met andere vooraanstaande specialisten roept hij het kabinet op tot een Nationaal Programma Pijn. Zo’n programma zou moeten leiden tot meer onderzoek naar oorzaken van chronische pijn, betere samenwerking tussen zorgverleners en een hogere kwaliteit van leven voor patiënten. Ook de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Anesthesiologie (NVA) steunt deze oproep en pleit voor structurele scholing over verantwoord voorschrijven en het zorgvuldig afbouwen van opioïden. Volgens deskundigen ontbreekt het zorgverleners soms aan voldoende kennis over de werking van medische opioïden en over hoe patiënten veilig kunnen stoppen. Er zijn zorgen dat herhaalrecepten of hogere doseringen te gemakkelijk worden verstrekt. De pijnspecialisten vinden dat het kabinet meer moet doen om het gebruik van medische opioïden terug te dringen en om preventie, behandeling en passende zorg beter te organiseren. Minister Jan Anthonie Bruijn van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport laat weten de geschetste problematiek te herkennen, maar ziet geen aanleiding voor een nationaal pijnprogramma of extra maatregelen om het opioïdengebruik terug te dringen. Volgens hem is er al veel kennis beschikbaar om de zorg voor mensen met chronische pijn te verbeteren en blijft langdurig opioïdengebruik een aandachtspunt. Lamb Saag Ingredients 6 lamb shanks 80g ghee salt, to season 2 black cardamon 1 cinnamon stick 4 red onions 6 cloves garlic, grated 1 thumb-size piece fresh ginger, grated 4 tomatoes 1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp ground coriander 1 tbsp ground cumin ¼ tsp freshly grated nutmeg 3 Thai green chillies 600g baby spinach coriander leaves, plain yoghurt and naan bread to serve Method Step 1: Cook the lamb and base Season the lamb on all sides with salt. Heat half the ghee in a heavy based saucepan or Dutch oven over high heat. Cook the lamb in batches, turning, until browned on all sides. Set aside. Thinly slice the red onions and finely grate the garlic and ginger. Roughly chop the tomatoes. Reduce the heat to medium-high and add the remaining ghee to the pan. Stir in the cardamom and cinnamon and cook for 1 minute to bloom. Add the onions and season with salt. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Add the garlic and ginger and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Stir in the tomatoes and cook for a further 2 minutes to soften. Add the Kashmiri, turmeric, coriander, cumin and nutmeg and stir to combine. Break off the chilli stalks and then break each in half and add to the pan. Stir to combine. Return the lamb to the pan and add just enough water to cover the lamb. Bring to a simmer then cover with a tight fitting lid. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 4 hours, until fall apart tender (start checking the lamb at 3 hours). Step 2: Prep the spinach Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil over high heat. Blanch the spinach for 30 seconds, until just wilted, then drain and refresh in cold water. Drain the spinach well and transfer to a blender. Blend until smooth, then refrigerate until the lamb is ready. Step 3: Finish and serve When the lamb is cooked, pull the bones from the meat and discard. Break the meat up into smaller chunks using tongs. Stir the spinach mixture through the lamb and cook for 1 minute, until heated through. Spoon the lamb into serving bowls and drizzle with some yoghurt. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with naan or rice on the side. #recipe #india #cooking #curry
