It dates to 1953-54 and shows the cruise of the USS Yorktown (CVA-10) and activities of Fighter Squadron 24 and Carrier Air Group 2 (CVG-2). It also shows a visit to South Korea in the immediate wake of the cease fire. Yorktown was re-activated for this cruise as a result of the Korean War, but did not arrive in theater in time to see combat. This deployment to the Western Pacific was from August 3, 1953 to March 3, 1954. The squadrons that were part of CVG-2 were: VF-24: Corsairs, F9F-6 Cougars VF-63: Fighting Redcocks, F9F-5 VF-64: Free Lancers, F9F-5 VA-65: Fist of the Fleet, Douglas AD-4B/4NA Skyraiders . Een groep studenten en personeelsleden van de Vrije Universiteit demonstreerden vandaag voor sociale veiligheid op de VU. Aanleiding hiervoor is de stroom klachten over student Marlon U., over wie drie jaar lang klachten werden ingediend over intimidatie, geweldpleging en grensoverschrijdend gedrag. De demonstranten verwijten het College van Bestuur dat ze veel te laat hebben ingegrepen en te weinig hebben ondernomen om de veiligheid van de studenten te waarborgen. "Zeg het luid, zeg het duidelijk, sociale veiligheid doet ertoe", scanderen zo'n 150 studenten van de Vrije Universiteit in het Engels op de campus voor het gebouw aan De Boelelaan. Ze roepen het College van Bestuur op om een actiever beleid te voeren als er incidenten plaatsvinden die de veiligheid van de studenten in gevaar brengen. De reden dat ze er deze middag staan, is de houding van de VU op de meldingen en klachten over student Marlon U. Die vinden ze laks en nalatig. Fysiek en verbaal geweld Drie jaar lang teisterde Marlon U. studenten en medewerkers. Marlon, student, oprichter en voorzitter van de conservatieve studentenpartij VSP, zou onder meer homoseksuele studenten en medewerkers uitschelden en studenten ongewenst fysiek aanraken. Ook zong hij op de universiteit het nazilied 'Erika' en mishandelde hij een student die hiertegen protesteerde. Hoewel er klachten werden ingediend en studenten zich meldden bij de afdeling Veiligheid en Gedrag, werd er onvoldoende gedaan volgens de demonstranten. "Ik voel me niet altijd veilig. Vooral niet in de avond, als ik alleen ben", zegt een studente. Een andere student vertelt over haar slechte ervaringen nadat ze incidenten meldde. "Ik heb meerdere keren te maken gehad met intimidatie en pesterijen en allerlei vormen van mishandeling. Ik heb het keer op keer gemeld, maar het heeft nooit iets opgeleverd." Lakse houding Paula Eikelboom, lid van de studentenvakbond SRVU en mede-organisator van de demonstratie, is boos. Ze vindt het onbegrijpelijk dat de VU niet duidelijke maatregelen heeft genomen na de incidenten met Marlon U. "Als je beleid maakt voor sociale veiligheid, waarom ben je dan niet bezig met de melders? Waarom geef je dan geen nazorg?"   Ook Teun Otte, student geschiedenis is verontwaardigd. "De VU heeft dit drie jaar laten gebeuren, er is nooit ingegrepen, totdat het volledig over de schreef is gegaan met het laatste incident. Optredens van Joost Klein staan bekend om de chaotische stijl. Hij haalt alles uit de kast om energie over te brengen op zijn publiek. Bij het gloednieuwe appartementencomplex Spot in Zuidoost worden volgens bewoners zoveel pakketjes en fietsen gestolen dat zij dreigen met een huurstaking. In een brief aan de verhuurder vragen zij om maatregelen. "Afgelopen week zijn er drie fietsen gestolen uit de beveiligde stalling", zegt een bewoner van het appartementencomplex aan de Hiraistraat. En dat is niet de enige klacht: volgens meerdere bewoners hebben dieven afgelopen maanden hun pakketjes of fietsaccu's gestolen en zijn de deuren van de fietsenstalling geforceerd. SpotAmsterdam, een verzameling woontorens met namen als Aurelia en Scarlet, wordt sinds november bewoond en telt in totaal 1090 appartementen. Wat een 'unieke woonervaring' moest worden – Spot is een afkorting voor Superior Plan of Transformation - is volgens bewoners uitgelopen op een chaos. Zo'n 54 huurders hebben afgelopen zondag een brief verstuurd naar verhuurder VB&T waarin ze hun eisen kenbaar maken. Binnen vijf dagen willen de bewoners een concrete oplossing voor de veiligheidsproblemen en betere communicatie met de verhuurder. "Als er niet wordt ingegrepen, denk ik dat we in staking gaan. Dit kan zo niet langer", zegt een van de huurders. De politie laat weten dat zij afgelopen jaar 7 meldingen van fietsendiefstallen hebben ontvangen. Maar het is de vraag of de bewoners die slachtoffer worden van dieven, altijd een melding maken bij de politie. "Happy to announce that my swapfiets also got stolen", schrijft een bewoner in de groepsapp. Een ander stuurt een foto van twee mannen die weglopen met een enorm pakket. "FYI: these guys stole packages", staat erbij. Bij de buren van Robert, een van de huurders, is afgelopen ingebroken, zegt hij. "Ik neem nu zelf veiligheidsmaatregelen, want de verhuurder doet niks." De pakketbezorger heeft intussen instructies gekregen om de pakketjes niet meer beneden neer te leggen, omdat ze gestolen worden. "Ik heb veel klachten ontvangen. Ik bel nu aan en als mensen niet thuis zijn, neem ik het weer mee terug." "Meerdere maatregelen" Verhuurder VB&T laat in een reactie weten de problemen bijzonder vervelend voor de bewoners te vinden en zegt verschillende maatregelen te hebben genomen. Zo is pakketbezorgers inderdaad gevraagd om pakketten alleen aan bewoners zelf te overhandigen en is de VvE verzocht om met urgentie camera's te plaatsen.
