Dat de nieuwe OBA Next in Kraaiennest in Zuidoost er komt wisten we al, maar nu is dan eindelijk ook de financiering rond. Vandaag is de samenwerkingsovereenkomst tussen de OBA en de gemeente getekend, in het bijzijn van jongeren en de mensen van het naschoolse TUMO-programma, die over het project hebben meegedacht. Bedoeling is dat OBA Next eind 2030 de deuren opent. Er was een kleine ceremonie in het tijdelijke OBA Next Lab in Kraaiennest. De handtekeningen zijn eerder al officieel gezet; vandaag deden onderwijswethouder Sofyan Mbarki en Lodewijk Asscher, voorzitter van de Raad van Toezicht van de OBA, het symbolisch opnieuw. In 2023 heeft de gemeenteraad ingestemd met een reservering van 36,5 miljoen euro voor het realiseren van de OBA Next in Zuidoost. Daar komt nog een rijkssubsidie van 3 miljoen euro bovenop. Bibliotheek van de toekomst De nieuwe OBA Next wordt 7500 vierkante meter groot en moet 'een bibliotheek van de toekomst' worden, zegt OBA-directeur Martin Berendse. "Dat is het idee. Iedereen wil kennis opdoen, iedereen wil creatief zijn. Iedereen zoekt inspiratie. Daar zijn bibliotheken voor. Nu is er televisie, nu is er nieuwe media, nu is er AI; allerlei nieuwe communicatievormen. Daar moet deze bibliotheek over gaan." Wethouder Mbarki: "Het moet een plek worden waar je niet alleen boeken kunt lenen, maar ook heel veel andere dingen te doen zijn. Dat gebeurt hier nu ook al in dit gebouw." Want jongeren kunnen in het tijdelijke OBA Next Lab gratis workshops volgen via TUMO, een gratis naschools programma voor jongeren tussen de 12 en 18 jaar oud. Zo volgt bezoeker Alex de workshop Robotica. "Daar moet je met je handen een robot maken, en daarbij gebruik je niet alleen je handen maar ook je hoofd." Ook kunnen jongeren leren programmeren, tekenen of muziek maken. Rocherry komt helemaal uit Zuid voor de workshops in OBA Next Lab. "Tekenen, muziek, alles door elkaar. Je ontwikkelt hier skills, en niet iedereen krijgt daar de kans voor of heeft daar de tijd voor. En hier wordt op een hele leuke manier lesgegeven." De aandelenbeurs hoort een gelijk speelveld te zijn: iedereen heeft dezelfde informatie. Maar ongemerkt hebben terabytes aan data hun intrede gedaan op de aandelenbeurs. Slimme bedrijven gebruiken die data, om zo eerder dan de rest van de markt te kunnen zien wat de omzet van Apple is, of het aantal abonnees van Netflix. VPRO Tegenlicht duikt in de wereld van ‘alternative data’, om te kijken wie de winnaars en verliezers zijn van deze ontwikkeling op de beurs. Waar beleggers voorheen moesten wachten op jaarverslagen, berichten van analisten, kwartaalcijfers en de persberichten die vanuit bedrijven werden gepubliceerd, blijkt het inzetten van oneindige hoeveelheden data uit andere bronnen voor grote beleggers zeer lucratief. Deze ‘alternative data’ blijkt goed te kunnen voorspellen of bepaalde koersen omhoog of omlaag zullen gaan. Een data-analyse van creditcard-afschriften van miljoenen mensen kan de cijfers met grote precisie voorspellen. Maar de zucht naar data om beleggers een beter inzicht te geven, houdt niet op bij creditcard-informatie en Twitterberichten. Zelfs de emoties in de stemmen van CEO’s worden geanalyseerd om uit elke zin te kunnen destilleren of de persoon in kwestie vrolijk is, zelfverzekerd of juist geïrriteerd. Wie heeft er toegang tot al deze waardevolle, voorspellende data? Tot nu toe zijn het vooral grote beleggers zoals hedgefunds die miljarden euro’s per jaar neertellen om toegang te hebben tot deze datasets. Maar voor beleggers met een kleine portemonnee is toegang tot deze data lastig. Now 20, Marvin left Germany at the age of just 16. He emigrated with his brother to Hungary – to Budapest, to be precise. Why would a young person leave Germany at such a young age? In Marvin's case there were a range of crucial factors: Germany's COVID policy, concerns about immigration and domestic security, changes in society and what he sees as insufficient national pride. Marvin felt Germany was lacking clear social rules, order, identity and effective laws. And he was searching for freedom during a period impacted by COVID regulations. And Marvin thinks he's found exactly that in Hungary – especially in Budapest: greater safety, a stronger sense of community, conservative values, patriotism and a different concept of state and society. For him, Hungary has become a genuine new home abroad. We met Marvin in the Hungarian capital to talk in depth about his motivations for emigrating, life in Hungary compared to Germany, and also about politics, immigration, security and his outlook for the future. But it quickly became clear that his story is closely linked to his experiences in his native Germany. We therefore met Marvin a second time – this time back in his home village. We'd originally been planning to talk to his family too – but unfortunately things turned out differently. Op het Museumplein, precies tegenover het Amerikaanse consulaat, staat sinds vandaag een protestkunstwerk van kunstenaar SAZZA. Het kunstwerk is een reactie op het migratiebeleid van president Trump. De gemeente vindt dat het afwijkt van waarvoor de vergunning was aangevraagd, dus wordt nu onderzocht of de plaatsing wel passend en toegestaan is. In de VS is de afgelopen maanden veel protest tegen het harde migratiebeleid en het optreden van immigratiedienst ICE. De afgelopen maand werden twee burgers in de VS doodgeschoten door federale agenten. De locatie van de kunstwerken is dus niet toevallig. "Het is een directe reactie op de acties van ICE en het harde immigratiebeleid van Trump", vertelt maker SAZZA, oftewel Saskia Stolz. Niet het originele kunstwerk "Daarom heb ik ook maar een deel van de installatie neergezet. Normaal gesproken zitten er hartjeshanden omheen, beschermende handen die staan voor solidariteit. Maar nu wilde ik echt de nadruk leggen op de kwetsbaarheid van mensen, want wat blijft er over als we elkaar niet meer beschermen", vervolgt SAZZ. En daar valt de gemeente nu over. "Er is een vergunning aangevraagd voor een ander kunstwerk dan momenteel is geplaatst. Het betreft een werk met een wezenlijk ander karakter (‘hart gevormd door handen’). Omdat dit afwijkt van wat is vergund, onderzoeken wij momenteel of plaatsing passend en toegestaan is", laat een woordvoerder van stadsdeel Zuid weten.  'Hoort bij het Museumplein' De Amsterdammers die wij spreken, zijn het eens met de intenties van de kunstenaar. "Ik vind het een goede vorm van protest. Eigenlijk een soort stil protest", vertelt een vrouw die langsloopt. Ook twee andere mannen vinden het een goede zaak dat de kunstwerken er staan. "Het Museumplein is wel vaker een plek waar protesten beginnen", vertelt hij. De ander is duidelijk: "Dit is toch vrijheid van meningsuiting".  Het Amerikaanse consulaat heeft nog niet inhoudelijk op onze vragen gereageerd. Een 20-jarige Amsterdammer is in de nacht van zondag op maandag mishandeld op de Jan Tooropstraat in Weesp. Dat gebeurde nadat hij vermoedelijk was betrapt op het plaatsen van een explosief bij een restaurant aan de aangrenzende Herensingel. De politie kreeg meerdere meldingen over de mishandeling en trof de Amsterdammer, die gewond was, daarna aan. Ook vonden ze daar een 'mogelijk explosief voorwerp', schrijft de politie. De gewonde man is voor controle naar het ziekenhuis gebracht en daarna aangehouden voor poging brandstichting met een explosief. Voor de mishandeling is een 29-jarige man uit Weesp opgepakt. De gemeente heeft het restaurant inmiddels gesloten. ‘Bozzie’, de eigenaar van de naastgelegen fietsenwinkel betreurt de sluiting van het pand en noemt het plaatsen van explosieven “een makkelijke manier van concurrentie uitschakelen”, zo werkt het niet volgens hem. “Je huurt een paar jochies in en het doel is bereikt.” Verder denkt hij een sluiting van zes maanden het probleem niet oplost. “Meer surveillance zou ook kunnen, maar dat doen ze niet.” De politie is een onderzoek gestart en hoopt dat getuigen en mensen die meer weten zich melden. Dat kan ook anoniem. Op zondag 18 januari zou er een ruit zijn ingeslagen. Op woensdag 21 januari 2026 rond 01:20 uur werd er een explosief bij een verdachte gevonden. Op woensdag 21 januari 2026 rond 23:30 uur werden explosieven aangetroffen. Op vrijdag 23 januari 2026 omstreeks 00:39 uur heeft er een explosie plaatsgevonden bij het pand. Daardoor is er roetschade en een gat ontstaan. Burgemeester Halsema heeft op 22 januari al cameratoezicht ingesteld, maar ze vindt inmiddels dus dat het restaurant dicht moet. "Gezien het feit dat binnen één maand bij dit pand drie pogingen tot het plaatsen van een explosief en één explosie heeft plaatsgevonden is het risico op herhaling van nieuwe incidenten te groot", schrijft ze in het sluitingsbevel. Door de herinrichting van het plein verdwijnen er 45 parkeerplekken. Dat heeft de gemeente besloten op basis van onderzoek naar de vraag naar parkeerplekken. "En het zijn er niet zoveel", zegt Piers. Naar verwachting beginnen de werkzaamheden halverwege 2027. In maart en april organiseert de gemeente nog bewonersavonden om de uitwerking van de plannen te bespreken. Het plan is onderdeel van de Tweede Fietsring: een netwerk van straten waar de fiets voorrang krijgt en waar het prettiger en veiliger wordt voor fietsers en voetgangers. Die route leidt langs De Nieuwe Amstelbrug, via de Ceintuurbaan, de Van Baerlestraat, de 1e Constantijn Huygensstraat, de Bilderdijkstraat, de Frederik Hendriksstraat en de Frederik Hendrikplantsoen. Zo'n fietsstraat is niet nieuw. Op de ring tussen de Sarphatistraat, via het Weteringscircuit naar de Marnixstraat is al eerder een fietsstraat aangelegd, te herkennen aan de rode weg.
