The ship featured in this video is based on HMS Pegasus, a three-masted Swan-class sloop-of-war built for the Royal Navy in the late 18th century. Ships of this class represented a distinct category of warship during the Age of Sail, designed to be fast, versatile, and capable of operating independently across vast distances. Featuring a single gun deck carrying up to 16 guns and constructed almost entirely from oak timber reinforced with a dense internal structure, vessels like Pegasus achieved a good balance between armament and sailing performance. Their three-mast rig allowed them to harness the wind efficiently, while their compact size made them ideal for patrols, escort duties, reconnaissance, and long overseas deployments. Spring onion Kimchi (Pa-kimchi) Ingredients 4 bunches spring onions (approximately 30 onions) 200ml fish sauce 600ml water 40g glutinous rice flour 4 cloves garlic 1 thumb-size piece fresh ginger 25g caster sugar 150g Gochugaru Method Step 1: Prep the onions Wash and trim the ends of the spring onions. Place in a large mixing bowl. Pour over the fish sauce and start to massage through the onions. Mix every 10 minutes like this for 1 hour. Step 2: Make the chilli paste Heat the water in a large saucepan over medium heat to just a simmer. Whisk in the rice flour until smooth, then turn off the heat set aside for 15 minutes to cool. Finely grate the garlic and ginger. Whisk into the rice mixture, along with the sugar and Gochugaru. Step 3: Mix and store Mix the chilli paste with the spring onions until well combined. Pack this tightly into containers or jars and seal. Now, at this point, you can leave the kimchi out at room temperature to ferment for one week, making sure you burp the jars every day to let the gases out, then refrigerate. Or you can just refrigerate it as it is if you prefer to keep it fresh. #recipe #cooking #chilli #korea

Veel Joodse studenten voelen zich nog steeds onveilig in het hoger onderwijs, bleek eerder deze week uit een rapport van de Taskforce Antisemitismebestrijding. Voor universiteitsstudenten Nati en Hadassah kwam dit niet als verrassing: zij weten hoe mede-studenten kunnen reageren als ze horen dat zij Joods zijn. Volgens het rapport zijn er nog altijd incidenten, pesterijen en intimidaties tegen Joodse studenten in het hoger onderwijs. Dat gebeurt dan onder meer tijdens protestacties tegen het beleid van Israël "Ik heb zelfs een keer gehad dat medestudenten me hebben gewaarschuwd niet naar het hoofdgebouw te gaan, omdat het even niet voor mij zou zijn op die dag. Dat vond ik heel pijnlijk", vertelt Nati, student aan de VU. 'Fleur' Hadassah studeert aan het Amsterdam University College. Ze heeft net als Nati een Hebreeuwse voornaam en zegt dat ze vaak aangesproken wordt op de daden van Israël. "Soms willen ze dat ik me verantwoord over wat Israël doet, terwijl ik daar geen invloed op heb, aangezien ik Nederlander ben. Daar heb ik dan wel moeite mee." Daarom stelt ze zich soms met een andere naam, zoals Fleur, voor als ze andere mensen ontmoet. "Maar dat zou eigenlijk helemaal niet nodig moeten zijn, want ik ben ook heel erg trots op wie ik ben." Uit het onderzoek komt naar voren dat de onderwijsinstellingen de afgelopen 2,5 jaar al de nodige maatregelen hebben getroffen, maar dat dat zeker nog beter kan. En dat is iets wat zowel Hadassah als Nati beamen. Sociale en fysieke veiligheid "Het heeft voorheen wel gevoeld alsof we er alleen voor stonden", zegt Hadassah. "Dat we heel erg voor onszelf moesten opkomen." Dat laatste raakt een van de aanbevelingen die door de taskforce aan universiteiten en hogescholen is gedaan: train vertrouwenspersonen in het herkennen en aanpakken van antisemitisme. Een andere aanbeveling: stimuleer de versterking van academische kennis over Joods leven. "Verbeter de sociale en fysieke veiligheid", voegt Nati daaraan toe. "En het gevoel van die veiligheid bij de Joodse studenten en de Israëlische studenten." Hadassah hoopt vooral op dialoog tussen mensen die anders lijnrecht tegenover elkaar lijken te staan. "Ik ben eigenlijk zelf heel erg benieuwd wat mensen beweegt om mee te doen aan demonstraties. En ik hoop dat mensen zich ook willen verdiepen in wat er speelt bij Joodse studenten die zich onveilig voelen, zodat we met z'n allen bij elkaar kunnen komen en elkaar beter kunnen begrijpen." Dit rapport is volgens haar een stap in de goede richting om van de universiteit een veiligere plek te maken. "Niet alleen voor Joodse studenten, maar voor iedereen." Reacties De Vereniging Hogescholen liet eerder deze week al in een reactie weten dat ze zich grotendeels kunnen vinden in het rapport. "De aandachtspunten van de Taskforce Antisemitismebestrijding worden in grote lijnen herkend en bieden aanknopingspunten voor de hogescholen om hun beleid verder aan te scherpen." Amerika komt met een grote delegatie naar de internationale veiligheidsconferentie die vrijdag van start gaat in München. Minister Rubio van Buitenlandse Zaken is erbij, evenals meer dan vijftig Congresleden en de gouverneurs van Michigan en Californië. Nieuwsuur sprak in aanloop naar de conferentie met Wolfgang Ischinger, interim-voorzitter van de conferentie. Hij verwacht dat de relaties tussen Europa en de VS opnieuw gespreksonderwerp nummer 1 zijn in München. De conferentie wordt sinds 1963 jaarlijks georganiseerd en geldt als een van de belangrijkste bijeenkomsten om te praten over internationale veiligheid. Het gebeurde al vaker dat de wereldorde werd opgeschud tijdens de veiligheidsconferentie in het Bayerischer Hof Hotel in München.

Bijna alle politieke partijen in Amsterdam weigeren nog samen te werken met Forum voor Democratie (FvD). Zowel tijdens de campagne als na de verkiezingstijd zullen zij niet in gesprek gaan met de radicaal-rechtse partij. Volgens hen moet FvD Amsterdam afstand nemen van 'rechts-extremistische opvattingen' van kandidaten, melden ze in een gezamenlijk statement. Het statement is ondertekend door de Partij voor de Dieren, Volt, BIJ1, CDA, D66, Partij voor Morgen, DENK, Partij van de Arbeid, GroenLinks, De Vonk en VVD. De partijen noemen specifiek Reginald Eeckhout, die op nummer 7 staat op de lijst in Amsterdam. Eeckhout is volgens NRC mede-oprichter van het extreemrechtse Erkenbrand. Die organisatie streeft onder andere naar een 'blanke etnostaat' waar geen plek is voor Joden en is volgens de AIVD 'een gevaar voor de democratische rechtsorde.' In artikelen van NRC en Volkskrant kwam onlangs aan het licht dat meerdere FvD-kandidaten in het land extreemrechtse en racistische sympathieën hebben. Geen samenwerking Zolang FvD geen afstand neemt van zulke kandidaten sluiten de partijen elke vorm van samenwerking in de campagne uit. Ze zullen dus niet meer bij debatten of bijeenkomsten in gesprek gaan met de FvD. Ook na de verkiezingen weigeren ze samen te werken in een coalitie of op andere manieren in de gemeenteraad. De partijen stellen dat Eeckhouts kandidatuur namelijk niet op zichzelf staat. "Het past binnen een breder patroon waarbij FvD kandidaten aantrekt met rechts-extremistische opvattingen", schrijven zij. "Dit is een bewuste keuze om rechts-extremisme in Amsterdam niet te normaliseren of legitimeren" Gezamenlijke verklaring partijen Debatorganisatoren worden verder opgeroepen om uitnodigingen gericht aan de FvD in te trekken. 'Dit is een bewuste keuze om rechts-extremisme in Amsterdam niet te normaliseren of legitimeren ten koste van de democratische rechtsstaat en de veiligheid van Amsterdammers', zeggen ze in een statement. JA21 en SP hebben het statement niet ondertekend. "Wij maken ons zorgen over de vergaande radicalisering bij FVD", aldus JA21. "Samenwerking, mocht FVD verkozen worden, achten wij zeer onwaarschijnlijk. Maar het debat in campagnetijd is bij uitstek het podium waar wij dergelijke kwalijke ideeën kunnen bestrijden, dus een boycot van debatten staan wij niet achter." De SP laat weten: "Laat cancellen maar iets zijn wat ze doen bij de 'snowflakes op rechts. Ons doel is om extreem-rechts overal te ontmantelen en te verslaan: in de Stopera, bij sport en op verjaardagsfeestjes, overal. Het is schadelijk als extreem-rechts alleen in door zichzelf gecontroleerde context haar ideeën uit zonder te worden tegengesproken. Het uitsluiten van FvD versterkt alleen maar het idee van 'elite-politiek', waarmee we onbedoeld de zuil die FvD aan het bouwen is versterken." Boycot andere gemeenten De afgelopen week werd Forum voor Democratie al in verschillende andere gemeenten, waaronder Den Haag, Nijmegen en Rotterdam, geboycot vanwege extreemrechtse kandidaten. Forum voor Democratie zit momenteel met 1 zetel in de Amsterdamse gemeenteraad. FvD-lijsttrekker Johan Dessing reageerde vanmiddag tegenover AT5 over het uitsluiten van zijn partij: De woede van veel Amsterdamse partijen over de kandidatenlijst van Forum voor Democratie komt niet uit de lucht vallen. Tijdens de opnames voor een politiek programma van AT5 afgelopen weekend ging het al mis. BIJ1-lijsttrekker Tofik Dibi liep weg uit de opname met Forum-lijsttrekker Johan Dessing. Dibi wil dat Forum de nummer zeven van de lijst, Reginald Eeckhout, schrapt omdat die een extreem-rechts verleden heeft. In het programma, dat later deze maand wordt uitgezonden, maken de lijsttrekkers van de twaalf grootste partijen in de Amsterdamse gemeenteraad een street art-kunstwerk. De 31-jarige Kezi Shorish, die om veiligheidsredenen onder een schuilnaam spreekt, staat al weken bij vrijwel alle demonstraties voor het lot van de Koerden in het Midden-Oosten. Daar treedt de Syrische regering de laatste tijd hard op in Koerdische gebieden. In Syrië is een conflict gaande tussen de Syrische staat en de SDF, een door de Koerden geleide militaire coalitie. Er zijn meldingen van executies en plunderingen, en Koerden worden verdreven uit zelfstandige gebieden. Op vrijdag 23 januari vond er een demonstratie plaats op de Dam, waar honderden mensen aanwezig waren. Onder wie Kezi, die zich geroepen voelde om daarbij te zijn. "Er gebeurt iets en dan weet je: nu moet ik aan de slag", vertelt ze over waarom ze de plicht voelde om naar de Dam te komen. Sindsdien is ze ook naar een aantal andere demonstraties geweest en is ze niet van plan te stoppen met demonstreren. "We moeten gewoon doorgaan", laat ze weten. "Of Koerdistan, of niet meer bestaan." Veiligheid Koerden onder druk Niet alleen in Syrië staan de Koerden onder druk. Ook in Nederland moeten Koerden oppassen, vertelt Kezi. Dat werd ook duidelijk toen een agent gewond raakte bij het protest op 23 januari, nadat hij betogers probeerde te beschermen tegen iemand die opmerkingen maakte naar de Koerdische demonstranten. Bij de demonstraties voor het lot van de Koerden is er enorm veel politie op de been. "Het lijkt alsof Ajax-Feyenoord op de Dam staat te spelen", vertelt Kezi. Analytic philosophy is predominantly based in the English-speaking world taking its name from Bertrand Russell’s philosophy of logical analysis that overthrew the grand Hegelian metaphysics of the 19th century. It did so in favour of a focus on logic and linguistic precision, with the assumption that science would do the serious work of uncovering the nature of reality. Continental philosophy, based primarily in France and Germany, has offered a broad range of outlooks on the nature of the human condition and the world. It has been defined by its critics simply in opposition to analytic philosophy. Few thinkers have bridged the divide to be taken seriously by both camps. Yet both traditions now have deep challenges. The original focus of analytic philosophy has become increasingly blurred while in France English speaking philosophy is now in vogue. Three renowned philosophers explore the key questions. Vandaag bleek dat Bakker samen met Sheher Khan van DENK het initiatief heeft genomen tot een boycot van Forum.
