Sinds zeker 20 november zijn al tientallen lantaarnpalen rondom de Sloterplas kapot. Buurtbewoners meldden dat al meerdere keren bij de gemeente. Nadat een verwarde man dinsdagavond twee vrouwen bedreigde, is er vandaag noodverlichting geplaatst. Fijn, vinden veel omwonenden, wel vragen ze zich af waarom het zo lang geduurd heeft. Volgens netbeheerder Liander en het stadsdeel ligt dat aan meerdere factoren, onder andere omdat de storing onder de grond zit. Rond 18.15 uur dinsdagavond sprong er ineens een man voor de fiets van een vrouw die in de buurt woont. "Het was een angstaanjagende ervaring. Er waren wel mensen in de omgeving, maar zij zagen ons niet, omdat het daar zo donker was. Hij heeft me niet fysiek aangeraakt. Ik heb weg kunnen komen", schrijft de vrouw op Facebook. Doodsbedreiging Daarna zou de man een andere vrouw bedreigd hebben. Hij zou tegen haar gezegd hebben dat hij haar door haar hoofd zou schieten. De politie bevestigt de melding van deze bedreigingen binnen te hebben gekregen. De politie zegt meteen naar de plek toe te zijn gekomen, maar de man werd niet gevonden. Sindsdien surveilleert de politie extra in de buurt van de plek waar het gebeurde. Vandaag heeft het stadsdeel tijdelijke verlichting geplaatst. "Dat is heel goed en noodzakelijk ook", zegt een buurtbewoner. "Het is alleen een beetje laat. We hebben net een incident gehad. Dankzij een mevrouw die dat heeft aangekaart, en die al drie maanden geleden heeft gemeld dat het licht kapot is, gebeurt er nu iets." "Het doet ons veel om te horen wat afgelopen dinsdagavond is gebeurd en welke impact dit heeft gehad", zegt een woordvoerder van stadsdeel Nieuw-West. Zie hieronder de hele reactie van het stadsdeel. Er is opnieuw contact geweest met Liander om met spoed oplossingen te vinden. Nadat de melding eind november bij de gemeente binnen kwam hebben we Liander ingelicht over een storing in een van hun kabels. Begin december hebben zij een deel van de lantaarns kunnen repareren. Er bleek echter ook een defect onder de grond te zitten, welke niet direct gevonden kon worden. Het vervolg van de herstelwerkzaamheden en de komst van een speciale meetwagen stonden gepland op 15 januari, dit viel in de periode waarin het vroor. De werkzaamheden konden toen niet doorgaan. Aanstaande woensdag zal Liander opnieuw langskomen en proberen de storing te verhelpen. Daarvoor zal de buurt enige tijd van de stroom worden afgesloten. In de tussentijd installeren we tijdelijke verlichting." Een van de redenen dat het zo lang duurt om het licht te repareren, is dat het defect onder de grond zit, zegt het stadsdeel. Een woordvoerder van netbeheerder Liander legt uit wat daar lastig aan is. "Het lokaliseren en repareren van kabelstoringen kost veel tijd. We moeten met specialistische apparatuur onderzoeken waar de storing zit, een vergunning aanvragen om te graven en omwonenden informeren als zij tijdelijk zonder stroom komen te zitten." Wanneer de lichten weer gemaakt zijn, kan Liander op dit moment nog niet zeggen. Reactie netbeheerder Liander "Een defecte lantaarnpaal kan verschillende oorzaken hebben: soms is de lamp zelf kapot, in andere gevallen zit de storing in de elektriciteitskabel onder de grond. Zoals hier aan de Sloterplas. Door intensieve werkzaamheden aan andere kabels en leidingen in de grond kunnen deze kabels bijvoorbeeld beschadigd raken, wat bij regenval tot storingen kan leiden. De gemeente herstelt kapotte lampen. Wanneer de storing in de elektriciteitskabel zit, is Liander verantwoordelijk voor het oplossen ervan. Als de gemeente bepaalt dat de openbare- of verkeersveiligheid in het geding is, dan krijgt een storing prioriteit. Het lokaliseren en repareren van kabelstoringen kost echter veel tijd. We moeten met specialistische apparatuur onderzoeken waar de storing zit, een vergunning aanvragen om te graven en omwonenden informeren als zij tijdelijk zonder stroom komen te zitten. Maar door een vorstperiode moet soms ook werk worden uitgesteld omdat we de grond niet open mogen maken van de gemeente. Dit speelt allemaal bij de situatie aan de Sloterplas. En al dit werk moeten we uitvoeren met te weinig mensen door een tekort aan technisch personeel. Door deze combinatie van factoren kan het oplossen van minder urgente, maar soms ook urgente storingen aan straatverlichting soms langer duren. De creatieve broedplaats De Ceuvel in Noord moet in januari 2027 sluiten. Na twaalf jaar komt er een einde aan het terrein, dat bekend staat om duurzaamheid, kunst en innovatie. De oprichters hopen dat vertrek nog te voorkomen is en zetten alles op alles voor een alternatief plan samen met de buurt. De oprichters van De Ceuvel kregen in 2024 te horen dat zij nog twee jaar langer mochten blijven op de huidige locatie. De nieuwe einddatum staat op 31 januari 2027. Nu deze datum steeds dichterbij komt, doet medeoprichter Toon Maasen zijn uiterste best om de verdwijning tegen te gaan: “Het is zo’n mooie plek geworden. Een rafelrandje in de stad. En juist dat soort plekken verdwijnen steeds vaker.” Plannen De gemeente werkt aan plannen voor het gebied. Er wordt gesproken over woningbouw, nieuwe fietsroutes en een plan voor de sanering. De initiatiefnemers van De Ceuvel hebben samen met buurtbewoners een plan opgesteld waarin de broedplaats behouden blijft en waarin tegelijkertijd wordt meegewerkt aan de ontwikkeling van het gebied. “Onze plannen sluiten helemaal aan op het bestemmingsplan”, zegt Tessa Harmelink, programmamaker bij De Ceuvel. “Er is hier al een broedplaats, dus laten we juist verder ontwikkelen met wat er is. In plaats van alles plat te gooien en opnieuw te beginnen.” Volgens Maassen botst hun aanpak met de manier waarop de gemeente doorgaans werkt. “Ze denken heel erg vanuit de oude manier van werken, met allemaal grote bedrijven en strenge regels. In plaats van met de burger samenwerken.” Nog niet voorbij Hoewel de officiële einddatum vaststaat, wil De Ceuvel zich nog niet neerleggen bij een vertrek. De initiatiefnemers zien ruimte voor overleg en hopen dat de gemeente alsnog openstaat voor een gezamenlijke aanpak. De gemeente laat weten nog te bekijken hoe er omgegaan moet worden met de functie die de Ceuvel nu heeft. Spicy Sausage and Chickpea Stew Ingredients 1 red onion 2 cloves garlic 1 long red chilli 4 spicy pork sausages 1 tbsp olive oil sea salt, to season 1 tsp ground cumin 400g can whole tomatoes 400g can chickpeas, rinsed and drained 60g baby spinach Method Step 1: Prep the ingredients Dice the red onion, finely dice the garlic and thinly slice the chilli. Pull the sausages from the casings and break up into thumbsized pieces. Step 2: Cook Heat the oil in a heavy based frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic and chilli and saute for 1 minute. Season with salt and cumin, then stir in the sausage pieces. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the tomatoes, then fill the can halfway with water and add to the pan. Stir in the chickpeas, cover with a lid and cook for 4 minutes. Remove the lid and top with the spinach. Gently stir through until just wilted, then serve. Zucchini and Butter Bean Salad Ingredients zest and juice of 1 lemon 1 tbsp hulled tahini, 1 clove garlic, finely grated 1½ tbsp chopped dill sea salt, to season 2 zucchini, mandolin 1 tbsp olive oil 400g can butter beans, rinsed and drained Method Step 1: Prep the dressing Combine the lemon zest and juice with the tahini in a small bowl. Add the garlic and dill and season with a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined, then set aside. Step 2: Cook the zucchini Slice the zucchini thinly using a mandolin or a vegetable peeler. Place the zucchini on a tray and drizzle with the oil. Toss gently to coat and season with salt. Heat a BBQ grill to high or a grill pan over high heat. Cook the zucchini for 1-2 minutes on each side, until lightly charred. Transfer the zucchini to a large bowl. Step 3: Finish and serve Add the butter beans and dressing to the zucchini and toss gently to combine. Transfer to a serving platter and serve.

Menig twintiger en dertiger is ooit losgegaan op hits van het album 'New Wave' van het gelijknamig hiphopcollectief, dat precies tien jaar geleden uitkwam. Ter ere van het jubileum komen ze weer samen om maar liefst vijf shows te geven in de Ziggo Dome; allemaal uitverkocht. We zochten Bokoesam op bij zijn kapper in Oost, die vanavond de vijfde en de laatste show speelt. New Wave werd opgericht door platenbaas Kees de Koning en bestaat onder anderen uit de rappers Ronnie Flex, Jonna Fraser, Lil' Kleine en Bokoesam. In 2016 won het collectief nog de prestigieuze Popprijs op het festival Noorderslag. Dat het zou uitgroeien tot zo iets groots, had Bokoesam niet durven dromen. "We hadden New Wave eigenlijk voor de grap gemaakt, zonder enige intentie om een top-album te maken", vertelt hij. Toch staan ze nu vijf avonden op rij voor zo'n 15.000 fans op te treden. "Dit had niemand verwacht", zegt Bokoesam. Of hij nog niet kapot is na vier avonden optreden op rij? "Vroeg opstaan en een beetje sporten", antwoordt hij op de vraag wat hem op de been houdt. Vanavond komt zijn moeder langs om de laatste show te bezoeken. Wie nog geen kaartje heeft en de laatste show wil bezoeken heeft pech, het is stijf uitverkocht. Edwards was constructed in the 1930s as Muroc Field. Following the close of WW2, it was renamed after Capt. Glen Edwards. Edwards is the home of the Air Force Test Center, Air Force Test Pilot School and NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center. It is responsible for much of the USAF’s research and developmental programs for flight as well as testing and development of aerospace systems from concept to combat. The finale of the film captures a historic moment in the Space Shuttle program as the Reagans, and test pilots Henry Hartsfield and Ken Mattingly met up after the STS-4 flight in the summer of 1982. Pilots conduct spins and rolls, technicians perform tests on crafts and evaluations on protective gear and systems. It shows what the USAF was up to after WWII and into the Cold War. Military action was concentrated on producing weapons to combat Soviet might. The Valkyrie was a prototype version of the planned B-70 nuclear-armed deep penetration super sonic strategic bomber. North American designed it in the 1950’s; it’s first flight would be 1964 and it was retired by 1969. The XB-70 was to replace the B-52 Stratofortress and B-58 Hustler. It’s high speeds made it difficult to capture on radar screens making it a viable competitor against Soviet inceptor or fighter aircraft. ICBM’s were introduced in the late 1950’s rendering crewed nuclear bombers obsolete. The B-70 program was canceled in 1961. Sinds 1972 beperkten verdragen als SALT, START en later New START het aantal kernwapens van de Verenigde Staten en Rusland. New START houdt het aantal actieve kernkoppen onder de 1.550, een enorme daling vergeleken met de Koude Oorlog. Maar beide landen hebben nog duizenden kernkoppen in reserve. Samen bezitten ze nog altijd zo’n 5.000 kernwapens, waarmee ze veruit de grootste kernmachten ter wereld blijven.
