Sausage and Parmesan Strata Ingredients 6 Italian pork sausages 1 red onion 1 tbsp olive oil ⅔ loaf of day old sourdough 6 eggs 400ml milk 30g grated parmesan cheese Sea salt, to season Method Step 1: Cook the sausages Pull the sausages from the casings and break up into thumb sized pieces. Thinly slice the red onion. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the sausage to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring to brown on all sides. Add the onion and cook for a further 3 minutes, stirring. Turn off the heat and allow the sausage mixture to cool. Step 2: Prep the egg mixture Break up the sourdough into rough, bite size pieces. Place in the base of a 2.2 Litre (2.4 Qrt) capacity baking dish. Whisk the eggs and milk in a large bowl, until well combined. Season with salt. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, then top with the cooled sausage mixture. Gently fold the mixture together, then sprinkle over the parmesan. Set the dish aside for 1 hour to soak, or overnight in the fridge. Step 3: Bake Preheat the oven to 180°C fan forced (355°F). Bake the strata for 20-25 minutes, until golden and crisp on top. Spoon the strata onto serving plates and serve hot.

Now 20, Marvin left Germany at the age of just 16. He emigrated with his brother to Hungary – to Budapest, to be precise. Why would a young person leave Germany at such a young age? In Marvin's case there were a range of crucial factors: Germany's COVID policy, concerns about immigration and domestic security, changes in society and what he sees as insufficient national pride. Marvin felt Germany was lacking clear social rules, order, identity and effective laws. And he was searching for freedom during a period impacted by COVID regulations. And Marvin thinks he's found exactly that in Hungary – especially in Budapest: greater safety, a stronger sense of community, conservative values, patriotism and a different concept of state and society. For him, Hungary has become a genuine new home abroad. We met Marvin in the Hungarian capital to talk in depth about his motivations for emigrating, life in Hungary compared to Germany, and also about politics, immigration, security and his outlook for the future. But it quickly became clear that his story is closely linked to his experiences in his native Germany. We therefore met Marvin a second time – this time back in his home village. We'd originally been planning to talk to his family too – but unfortunately things turned out differently. In dit onderzoek brengt Zembla de gevolgen in beeld van de wereldwijde handel in donorzaad en de impact daarvan op de rechten van donorkinderen. Jaarlijks worden in Nederland zeker duizend kinderen verwekt met buitenlands donorzaad, voornamelijk afkomstig uit Denemarken. Door een tekort aan Nederlandse donoren zijn wensouders aangewezen op internationale spermabanken. Via online catalogi kunnen zij kiezen uit honderden donorprofielen en met enkele muisklikken rietjes bestellen voor behandeling in een Nederlandse kliniek. Het donorzaad gaat vanuit Denemarken de hele wereld over, waardoor er van één donor wereldwijd tientallen tot zelfs honderden kinderen kunnen worden geboren die niet van elkaars bestaan weten. Na een reeks schandalen, waaronder de zaak rond vruchtbaarheidsarts Jan Karbaat, is de Nederlandse wetgeving aangescherpt om kinderrechten te beschermen. In Nederland mag een spermadonor maximaal in twaalf gezinnen kinderen verwekken en moet de donor later vindbaar zijn voor het kind. Uit onderzoek van Zembla blijkt echter dat deze regels niet gelden zodra wensouders gebruikmaken van buitenlands donorzaad. In landen als Denemarken bestaan geen wettelijke grenzen aan het aantal kinderen per donor en is traceerbaarheid niet gegarandeerd. Volgens verschillende experts worden hierdoor de rechten van Nederlandse kinderen structureel geschonden. Kinderen die zijn verwekt met buitenlands donorzaad lopen het risico hun biologische vader en halfbroers en -zussen nooit te kunnen achterhalen, terwijl het recht om te weten van wie je afstamt internationaal wordt gezien als een kinderrecht. Universitair docent familierecht Bregje Dijksterhuis stelt dat de huidige praktijk in strijd is met de rechten van het kind en dat de overheid de plicht heeft in te grijpen wanneer kinderrechten worden geschonden. Zembla spreekt met donorkinderen, wensouders, donoren en deskundigen, onder wie de Deense antropoloog Ayo Wahlberg, die onderzoek doet naar internationale spermabanken. Hij ziet meerdere gevallen van honderden halfbroers en -zussen van één donor en zegt dat onduidelijk is of dit uitzonderingen zijn of structurele gemiddelden. Ook komt de grootste spermabank ter wereld aan het woord. Directeur Ole Schou van het Deense Cryos International bevestigt dat zijn bedrijf geen wereldwijde limiet hanteert voor het aantal kinderen per donor en ziet daar geen noodzaak toe. Nederlandse wensouders vertellen dat zij zich misleid voelen. Zij gingen ervan uit dat de Nederlandse wet van toepassing was en dat er een maximum gold per donor, terwijl dat in de praktijk niet zo blijkt te zijn. Volgens expertisecentrum FIOM lukt het bovendien vaak niet om met de beschikbare informatie de biologische vader te achterhalen. FIOM maakt zich grote zorgen over de gevolgen voor donorkinderen en pleit voor het stoppen met buitenlands donorzaad. Demissionair staatssecretaris Judith Tielen (VWS) noemt het toenemende gebruik van buitenlands donorsperma onwenselijk en zegt maatregelen te willen nemen om massadonatie tegen te gaan. Stichting Donorkind vindt die reactie onvoldoende en wil de overheid aansprakelijk stellen, omdat zij al jaren op de hoogte zou zijn van de risico’s. Volgens de stichting moeten de rechten van donorkinderen beter worden beschermd en bestaande problemen worden opgelost.
