Tegen het argument ‘ik heb niets te verbergen’ zet Signal-baas Meredith Whittaker een confronterend gedachte-experiment: wat als al je berichten, twijfels, grapjes en intieme gesprekken openbaar en doorzoekbaar zouden zijn voor familie, collega’s en bazen? Privacy gaat niet over schuld of onschuld, maar over de complexiteit van mens-zijn. Maar ja, die complexiteit van ons mens-zijn brengt niet zoveel geld in het laatje. Minder privacy betekent voor bigtechbedrijven vooral: meer data roven waarmee winst gemaakt kan worden. Er wordt te weinig beseft dat technologie door mensen met heel concrete belangen wordt gemaakt. En daardoor worden marketingpraat, mythes over superintelligentie en vage privacy-beloften wat Whittaker betreft veel te weinig bevraagd. Met Signal bouwt ze aan een alternatief ecosysteem. Signal draait het dominante model om: geen dataverzameling, geen advertenties, geen winstdruk, maar minimale data, open-source code en controleerbare privacy. Vertrouwen is daarbij niet gebaseerd op charisma of beloften, maar op verifieerbare techniek. Juist daarom is Signal non-profit: omdat een op data gebaseerde winstlogica onverenigbaar is met echte privacy. Privacy, benadrukt Whittaker, is geen luxe of individuele hobby, maar een mensenrecht. Winter is brutal on skin and most moisturizer advice online is either oversimplified, wildly inconsistent, or driven by marketing. So we brought in Jenn Sullivan, senior editor of Wirecutter’s beauty team, to explain what moisturizers actually do, and how to use them in a way that makes a real difference. Jenn breaks down the ingredients that matter, the mistakes that leave skin feeling drier, and why timing and consistency matter more than price tags or hype.  By the end of this episode, you’ll have a clearer sense of how to choose a moisturizer—and how to make the one you already own work better for you. This episode covers:  • What moisturizer actually does. Jenn explains that moisturizers aren’t adding water into your skin so much as helping your skin hold onto the water it already has. Their main job is to support and protect the skin barrier, which naturally loses moisture throughout the day—especially in cold, dry weather or after washing. • Why timing matters more than quantity when you apply moisturizer. Moisturizer works best when skin still has some water on it. Jenn explains why applying it shortly after washing—when skin is slightly damp, not dripping—helps lock in hydration more effectively. • The real difference between face moisturizer and body lotion. Jenn breaks down how much of the distinction comes down to texture, sensitivity, and marketing. In many cases, a well-formulated body moisturizer can work just fine on the face. But it depends on your skin. • Why oils and petroleum jelly don’t hydrate on their own. Jenn explains that oils and petrolatum don’t add moisture—they prevent water loss. Used correctly, they can be helpful; but used alone on dry skin won’t fix the problem. • When an expensive moisturizer might make sense—and when it won’t. Higher price tags can reflect formulation, texture, or packaging, but Jenn explains why cost alone doesn’t determine effectiveness—and why many affordable options work just as well. Eisenhower is shown at the airport and then attending a rodeo and pow-wow attended by Native Americans. The film then shows footage from Washington, D.C. and the Eisenhower presidential inauguration and parade. The film may have been shot by someone who was affiliated with WWJ television news of Detroit, Michigan. Dwight D. Eisenhower visited Gallup, New Mexico in August 1952 during his presidential campaign, where he addressed a gathering of American Indians. Meeting with Tribes: Eisenhower met with representatives from 35 tribes in Gallup, addressing them on the issue of justice for Native Americans. Encouraging Participation: He urged the American Indians to vote and participate in the political process. Acknowledging Injustice: Eisenhower stated that American Indians had not received full justice from the white man who had conquered their lands. Hope for Equality: He expressed his hope for a future where there would be no differences among Americans based on race. This visit was an important moment during Eisenhower's campaign, demonstrating his engagement with Native American issues.
