Apostolou. It documents the development and demonstration of a high energy rate forging hammer, capable of delivering vastly greater impact energy than a conventional model. By substituting speed for mass, the process enables precise control of metal flow, producing complex shapes with thin and thick sections, refined grain structure, and superior strength without excessive machining or reheating. Through examples ranging from helicopter transmission gears and turbine wheels to rocket missile cases and aerospace components made from steel, nickel alloys, and titanium, the film demonstrates improved quality, reduced costs, and significant gains in fatigue life. High energy rate forging is a practical, economical, and versatile manufacturing breakthrough with major implications for space-age technology. 00:00 –Main titles. In August 1967, a high energy rate forging hammer is demonstrated. It marks a major technological advance in metal forming. 0:49 – High energy rate forging is explained as a process that substitutes velocity for mass to shape metal, a technique previously little used in industry. 1:03 – A standard drop forging hammer is converted from 10,000 ft-lb to nearly 250,000 ft-lb of impact energy by dramatically increasing ram velocity. 1:24 – Spring mounting absorbs shock and prevents vibration, allowing operation in light-manufacturing zones. 1:36 – Precision Forge Company converts the hammer under a USAF contract, with continued development supported after its acquisition by Whitica Corporation. 1:56 – The hammer is upgraded into a full production facility with furnaces, trim presses, and supporting equipment. 2:15 – A typical operation shows heated alloy steel billets forged into shape with controlled, high-energy blows. 2:34 – A hydropneumatic nitrogen system allows precise control of stroke and pressure, enabling the forging of many metals. 2:51 – Rapid energy delivery improves metal flow, fills complex dies, and produces thin and thick sections without grain enlargement. 3:18 – Improved grain structure and flow result in forgings with maximum attainable strength. 3:30 – Spiral bevel gears for military helicopter transmissions are forged with minimal machining. 3:52 – Pinions are also produced with single-blow forming and die changes, demonstrating consistent quality. 4:36 – The hammer successfully produces challenging parts such as turbine wheels, reducing costs while meeting strict specs. 5:06 – Rocket missile cases are forged with uniform wall thickness, minimizing machining and scrap. 5:31 – Difficult nickel alloys respond well to high energy rate forging, yielding stable, fine-grained parts with improved strength. 6:01 – Titanium components are forged at lower temperatures with controlled reheating, achieving superior aerospace properties. 6:28 – Special flanges show significant metallurgical improvement and guaranteed high yield strength. 6:47 – Uniform low-carbon steel parts are produced without machining, showing excellent surface quality and dimensional control. 7:17 – Spur gears are forged with grain flow following tooth profiles, eliminating cutting operations and increasing strength. 7:49 – Spiral bevel gear development promises major breakthroughs in manufacturing economy and fatigue life. 8:11 – Studies indicate most standard forging hammers could be converted economically into high velocity tools. 8:27 – Industry interest grows, and the Air Force initiates conversion of additional hammers for higher production capacity. 8:40 – The film concludes by affirming the high velocity forging hammer as a practical, versatile technology contributing significantly to the space-age era. "Report on the high velocity forging hammer". U.S. Air Force Missile Command film, 400', color, made by John L. Apostolou. Shows forging techniques for space and missile components using high velocity forging hammers. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. Waar moeten onze euro's naartoe? Hoog bezoek in Nieuw-West. Three knife attacks at schools in just four days: Poland is in shock. At least one person was killed and several others were injured in the attacks. One of the alleged attackers was only 15 years old and is reported to have filmed the attack using a camera mounted to his helmet. For a long time, Poland was considered one of Europe's safest countries when it came to violence in schools. Now, the incidents have sparked a wider debate about youth violence and radicalisation. Besides the attacks, several other teenagers have been detained for allegedly planning or threatening school attacks online. Police have inspected thousands of schools and stepped up security measures across the country. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned about a growing fascination with violence online. He described the attacks as “spontaneous acts” and pointed to the “glorification of violence” on the internet. While authorities say there is currently no evidence of a coordinated campaign or social media challenge behind the attacks, security services have long been concerned about the radicalisation of young people in certain online forums, on social media, and within some gaming communities. According to Polish police, it is still too early to draw firm conclusions about the attackers' motives. Episode 2 - https://youtu.be/FpqO7XTLMc0 In the realm of the pharaohs, some of mankind's oldest and largest cities are emerging. An urban revolution that has long been overlooked: For unlike the impressive stone temples, most traces of settlement have disappeared today. But research is gaining ever deeper insights into the urban life of the ancient Egyptians. The first major metropolis, Hierakonpolis, the ancient capital of Upper Egypt, emerges around 3,500 years B.C., when several villages coalesce into the oldest known urban settlement in Egypt. A city built of clay, the Egyptians' most important building material. However, for archaeologists, the perishable nature of the building material is a challenge. Thanks to modern methods, they can now form an astonishingly precise image of the structure of these cities and the everyday life of their inhabitants. -- Welcome to the official Get.factual youtube channel! 🌍 We are a documentary streaming channel covering history, science, technology, and nature. After flying from Southern California through Baja California and visiting Rancho San José, Bahía de los Ángeles, and San Blas, Milt discovers the village from the air and returns by way of Tuxpan. 0:00 Host Jack Douglas introduces the hidden Mexican island city of Mexcaltitán and welcomes Milt and Judy Farney. 1:06 Milt explains how spotting a mysterious village from the air turned their vacation into an adventure. 1:44 Concealed by swamps, the hidden city is nearly impossible to spot from land or sea. 2:18 Jack jokes about his role as godfather to the Farneys' five daughters. 2:43 The travelogue begins with the group departing Orange County Airport and flying into Mexico. 3:13 After Tijuana customs, the group flies to Rancho San José alongside traveling companions. 3:52 They visit the Meling family's long-established cattle and guest ranch in the foothills. 4:34 The party flies south, landing on a rough airstrip at Bahía de los Ángeles. 5:14 Milt highlights local sport fishing and a hand-built stone ranch church. 5:58 Refueling with a hand pump, the group prepares to fly across the Gulf of California. 6:14 Flying past Tiburón Island, the pilots spot a red-tiled village hidden inland near San Blas. 7:41 The group lands on a cow pasture airstrip in tropical San Blas. 8:03 Local children play behind the parked aircraft to enjoy the cooling propeller wash. 8:16 Milt inspects historic ruins in old San Blas, including an overgrown Spanish fort. 8:56 The visitors tour local plantations and take a canoe ride through mangrove tunnels. 9:36 Milt learns the mysterious island village he spotted is named Mexcaltitán. 10:02 Leaving their wives in San Blas, Milt and John prepare to locate the island. 10:57 The travelogue transitions to the second leg of the trip targeting Mexcaltitán. 11:09 Finding no landing spot on the island, the pilots fly to a crop-dusting strip in Tuxpan. 11:41 Father Preciado guides the men by tractor and dugout canoe toward the island. 12:02 Low water levels and sandbars slow their river travel past rural banks. 12:38 A routine trip lengthens into a six-hour struggle through narrowing, weed-choked waterways. 13:04 trapped in shallow bogs, the party fights through dense floating lily pads. 13:32 Passengers clear thick vegetation and push the heavy canoe into open water. 14:18 John Miller captures photographs as the canoe breaks free into open river currents. 14:34 Father Preciado cools off in the river as they pass local fishermen working fish traps. 14:57 Clam gatherers work the banks before the canoe rounds a bend, revealing Mexcaltitán. 15:40 Milt introduces the isolated island settlement, considered by some as the Aztec ancestral homeland. 15:55 The quiet island features electricity but lacks telephones, vehicles, hotels, or restaurants. 16:12 The visitors buy fruit at plaza stalls and set up cots provided by Father Preciado. 16:50 Milt watches fishermen return, noting mainland access involves a short bus and canoe ride. 17:25 Dugout canoes transport all island cargo, including furniture, livestock, and building supplies. 17:49 Fresh drinking water arrives from the mainland by canoe and is sold house-to-house. 18:22 Mainland vendors visit weekly while island children play games and navigate canoes. 18:46 Fishing dominates daily life, with residents drying catches and poling canoes through the delta. 19:24 Milt attempts canoe poling while keeping the camera equipment balanced and dry. 19:56 Fishermen mend nets offshore and use nighttime kerosene lanterns to scoop up surface shrimp. 20:20 Shrimp catches are iced on the mainland, averaging five to ten tons per night. 20:33 Father Preciado and local women prepare fresh seafood for the visitors. 20:54 Milt and John fly back toward San Blas to rejoin their families. 21:10 Milt calls the hidden island city one of the most remarkable sights he has ever filmed. 21:37 Douglas praises the expedition and chats with Judy and Milt as they introduce their five daughters by name and age. 22:57 Jack thanks the family, jokes about future wedding expenses, and signs off.

Martine Nida-Rümelin discusses what it means for a being to be conscious. Where do you draw the line between conscious and non-conscious beings? With a free trial, you can watch the full talk NOW at https://iai.tv/video/you-are-not-your-brain?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description Conscious beings such as ravens, dolphins and human beings stand in sharp contrast to mere things. They are something over and above their body and brain. What makes you you is not your particular personality. Join the Swiss and German philosopher Martine Nida-Rümelin as she argues for her distinctive subject-body dualism, which is not obscurantist but a demand for intellectual honesty. It aims at providing a solid basis for scientific approaches to consciousness. Conscious beings deserve a special kind of respect. Their existence merits a kind of astonishment which no future science can rationally undermine. #consciousness #philosophy #biology Martine Nida-Rümelin is a German philosopher and professor of philosophy at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Her work develops and defends what she calls subject-body dualism.
