Pour on a steady or falling temperature. If the shop is warming while it cures, air in the wood expands and pushes up through your coat. Source: West System User Manual & Product Guide Room temp 72 to 75°F, humidity under 60 percent. High humidity means cloudiness. Source: Jess Crow (temperature). Humidity guidance is standard across epoxy manufacturers. Silicone cups and spatulas. Cured epoxy pops right off, no waste, and no wood fibers from stir sticks contaminating the pour. Source: general shop practice Warm the bottles before mixing. Thinner resin releases bubbles better. BUT... warm resin means shorter pot life. You bought flow, you paid in time. If you use a water bath, dry the bottles completely, because a single drip of water contaminates the pour. And if you leave a bath set up between pours, drop in a chlorine tablet so the standing water doesn't go funky. For thin pours you can skip the vacuum chamber entirely. Save the drill paddles for large-volume, thick pours. Source: general shop practice Double-cup it. Mix, transfer to a clean cup, mix again. Make the second cup wide and shallow. Less heat buildup, longer working time. Never let mixed resin sit in a deep cup. Exotherm feeds itself and it kicks fast. Source: general shop practice Prep depends on the surface. Bare wood just needs sanding and dust removal, then a thin seal coat, because air trapped in the grain will bubble up through your flood coat. Oily woods and any non-porous surface need a solvent wipe first, fully flashed off. Residue causes fisheyes. Use penetrating epoxy to seal soft or rotten wood. You want a wide swirl flame, not a pencil point. A propane torch head like the Bernzomatic TS8000 covers ground fast and pops bubbles across a whole tabletop. A little butane pencil torch concentrates heat in one spot, so you're crawling across the pour and scorching as you go. Save the pencil flame for detail work. Amsterdam krijgt een nieuwe politiechef. De 48-jarige Rob van Bree vervangt Peter Holla eind dit jaar als hoofdcommissaris van de stad. De 63-jarige Holla was sinds oktober 2024 de hoofdcommissaris, maar gaat in december met pensioen. Van Bree werkte de afgelopen vijf jaar bij de eenheid landelijke opsporing en interventies. Daar werkte hij op nationaal en internationaal niveau aan de bestrijding van zware en georganiseerde criminaliteit, terrorisme, buitenlandse inmenging, drugs- en cybercriminaliteit. In een bericht op LinkedIn blikt hij terug op de afgelopen jaren en bedankt hij collega's en anderen. "Een periode waarin ik samen met vele betrokken collega's heb mogen bouwen aan een nieuwe eenheid, aan een nieuwe manier van samenwerken, en aan een organisatie die klaar is voor de uitdagingen van vandaag en morgen." Het is niet de eerste keer dat Van Bree in Amsterdam komt te werken. Hij begon zijn politiecarrière bij het Amsterdamse korps in 1998. Hij werkte onder meer op de wijkteams van de Balistraat in Oost en Ganzenhoef in Zuidoost en bij de meldkamer. In 2004 vertrok hij uit Amsterdam. Volgens korpschef Janny Knol, die Van Bree heeft aanbevolen bij de minister van Justitie en Veiligheid, krijgt Amsterdam een chef met 'brede ervaring'. "Met zijn ervaring en betrokkenheid ben ik ervan overtuigd dat Rob van Bree de juiste persoon is om Peter Holla op te volgen." Holla met pensioen De in Amsterdam geboren en getogen Holla werkte sinds 1984 bij de Amsterdamse politie en gaat in december met pensioen. Voordat hij de politiechef werd, werkte hij onder andere op het bureau sociale jeugd- en zedenzaken, de verkeerspolitie, bij de recherche en als hoofd operatiën. De buren van het kantoor van Netflix zijn ten einde raad door een langdurige verbouwing. Het videoplatformbedrijf krijgt een nieuw interieur en dat houdt de buurtbewoners al zes maanden uit hun slaap. "Het is overleven op de Karperstraat", zegt buurtbewoner Karin Sohngen. "Iedere ochtend word ik rond 6.00 uur wakker van de auto's met werklui die de straat inrijden. Ik word er helemaal gek van." Sinds februari wordt het kantoor van Netflix aan de Karperstraat grootschalig verbouwd. Bewoners ervaren daardoor niet alleen geluidsoverlast, ook kunnen zij al zes maanden geen auto's en fietsen parkeren in de straat. Maar vooral de werktijden zorgen voor frustratie: soms beginnen de werkzaamheden al rond 6.00 uur en gaan ze tot laat in de avond door. De emoties in de straat zijn inmiddels hoog opgelopen. Volgens Sohngen is de situatie psychisch zwaar en haar buurman Georg kampt met slaapgebrek. Thuis zet hij af en toe een koptelefoon op om het geluid van de werkzaamheden te dempen.Een gesprek tussen buurtbewoners en afgevaardigden van Netflix in café Bonnie, om de hoek van de Karperstraat, heeft de gemoederen niet kunnen bedaren. Volgens Sohngen is Netflix de tijdens het gesprek gemaakte afspraken niet nagekomen. Inmiddels zijn ook de gemeente en de politie op de hoogte gesteld van de klachten. "Ons kantoor in Amsterdam wordt momenteel gerenoveerd en we realiseren ons dat bouwwerkzaamheden overlast kunnen veroorzaken voor onze buren", schrijft een woordvoerder van Netflix. "We beschikken over alle benodigde vergunningen, houden omwonenden gedurende het project op de hoogte en voor vragen en zorgen hebben we een vast aanspreekpunt. De zorgen of problemen die zijn gemeld, hebben we opgepakt en actie op ondernomen." Voor Georg was de overlast reden om zijn Netflix-abonnement op te zeggen. Een aantal supporters vertelt hoelang zij al buiten staan te wachten. Sommigen denken dat het nog weleens een uur kan gaan duren voordat ze de trein instappen en dat kan nog weleens kloppen. De NS heeft extra treinen geregeld, maar als de rij ook over het hele perron loopt, dan kan het nog wel even duren. Voor de supporters mag het de pret echter niet drukken. "Het is de Formule 1 en we gaan Max Verstappen zien", aldus een van hen. "Het is druk, maar erg gezellig. Straks lekker met z'n allen aan het bier", zegt een ander. Vandaag waren het nog maar de kwalificaties voor de race. Morgen is de echte race en dat zou heel goed weer gepaard kunnen gaan met een behoorlijke rij voor het Centraal Station.
