It's organized, structured, and strategic from the beginning, so you make the most of your time and avoid injury and frustration. Build your basics, fill the gaps, and rise to more advanced levels of playing. Free sheet music library: https://classicalguitarshed.com/music Free tutorials: https://classicalguitarshed.com/cgs-archives Structured classical guitar course: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership Are you learning classical guitar or would like to learn classical guitar? ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar.

The dial side of the movement (named for obvious reasons) features the keyless and motion works. The keyless works allows you to both wind and set the watch via the single crown. The motion works are what translate the gradual unwinding of the mainspring into a time telling device (via the watch hands). Both are very important! #watches #watchmaking #watchrepair

Step 3: Assemble Soften banana leaves over an open flame quickly until more flexible. Transfer to a clean work surface. Spread a dollop of the paste in the centre of each leaf and spread to the size of the fish fillets. Heat another 20ml oil in a large frying pan on medium-high heat. Cook fish skin side down for 2 minutes until the skin starts to colour. Transfer to the banana leaves, placing skin side down on paste. Top with remaining masala, then wrap up leaves bringing in sides and rolling up. Truss with butchers string to hold together. Step 4: Cook and serve Heat remaining oil in a large deep frying pan with a lid over medium heat. Add fish parcels, cook for 2 minutes, until the leaves are browned, then turn and cook on the other side. Pour in about 40ml of water then cover with the lid and allow parcels to steam for 3 minutes. Serve fish parcels opened with steamed rice and sliced red onion. Recipe notes This dish is a delicacy from Kerala, India. Traditionally it is made using Karimeen (pearl-spot), which is a variety of fish from the back waters of Kerala. But you can make this using baby barramundi, king fish, snapper and mackerel. Cook support: Take care to not burn the banana leaves over the open flame to soften them, they just need a light waft over the flame to become softer. Sourcing: Banana leaves are available at quality green grocers, you will need to rinse them gently or wipe them with a damp cloth before using. Substitutions: You can substitute hot chilli powder for the Kashmiri if you can’t find it, just bear in mind that Kashmiri is milder in heat. Storage: This is best eaten immediately. Serving ideas: You can enjoy this as a starter or a side dish.
Most people are familiar with three of the body's responses to threat: fight, flight and freeze. On the Modern Love podcast, the therapist and author Meg Josephson discusses the fourth, lesser known response: fawn. Listen to the full conversation at youtube.com/nytpodcasts.
00 :00This episode, senior kitchen writer Michael Sullivan demystifies all things olive oil. He shares how to navigate the overwhelming olive oil aisle, what “extra virgin” really means, and the best way to store this kitchen staple so it will stay fresh (and won’t go rancid). Whether you're an olive oil aficionado or just looking to improve your everyday cooking, this episode is packed with essential information to help you select and savor better olive oil. The conversation covers: • The enemies of olive oil: Learn the "HALT" acronym – Heat, Air, Light, and Time – and how these factors degrade your oil. • What to look for on the label: Understand the crucial difference between a harvest date and a "best by" date, and why it matters. Plus, find out why dark bottles or tins are superior to clear glass. • The truth about "extra virgin": Michael explains the standards for extra virgin olive oil and the complexities of international regulations, revealing why the quality on your grocery store shelf might not always match the label. • How to identify rancid oil: Learn how to recognize the telltale signs of spoiled olive oil, often described as smelling like "Crayola crayons." • Storage secrets: Get actionable tips on where not to store your olive oil at home (including right next to your stove and the refrigerator). • Country of origin vs. quality: Michael debunks the myth that certain countries always produce the "best" olive oil and encourages listeners to explore different regions and flavor profiles. • The Wirecutter tasting process: Hear about how Michael and the Wirecutter team conduct their rigorous, brand-concealed olive oil taste tests. • Michael's top tips for shopping: Discover where to find hidden gems in the grocery store and how transparency from producers can be a sign of quality. And for the adventurous, stick around for a live olive oil taste test where Christine, Caira, and Rosie bravely "swirl, sniff, slurp, and swallow" to experience the nuances of different oils, from grassy and peppery to fruity and bitter. “Am I in trouble?” “Am I secretly bad?” These are questions Meg Josephson, a therapist and author, grew up asking herself. She was constantly trying to anticipate other people’s needs, worried that she was letting other people down. And it wasn’t until she found herself standing in the aisle of a Bed Bath & Beyond, trying to remember her favorite color, that she realized her desire to please everyone was eroding her sense of self. On this episode of Modern Love, Josephson talks about how that realization led her to confront her tumultuous childhood, and what it took to stop “people pleasing.” She reads the Modern Love essay “My Three Years as a Beloved Daughter (https://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/30/fashion/30love.html) ” by Erin Brown, about a woman who found a type of love in her best friend’s parents that she had never experienced before, and what that taught her about her own parents. Josephson’s book, “Are You Mad At Me?,” is available Aug. 5, 2025. Read more about Meg Josephson, and how to break the habit of people pleasing, in this article (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/06/well/fawning-book.html) by Jancee Dunn. Israel is rapidly losing the support of its closest allies amid increasingly urgent warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. A series of “tactical pauses” have allowed some aid into the strip, where many people are malnourished and desperate. But the United Nations is unequivocal, calling it a “man-made, mass starvation.” It also says that more than a thousand Palestinians have now been killed trying to get food or water at aid sites, which were created by an Israeli-American contractor to bypass the UN. Netanyahu says the United Nations is spreading lies about Israel and making excuses for its own failures. But does anybody believe a word he says? We examine the roots of the American practice of "deportation" -- from colonial banishment of heretics, through the political upheaval over Alien & Sedition Acts, to the age of Chinese Exclusion -- which paved the way for the federal government to exercise virtually unlimited & absolute power over aliens, whom they placed outside the protection of the Constitution. This is a sleeping bag that sucks blood away from your brain! And they're making it into pants... On earth, gravity helps your blood naturally circulate away from your brain. But in zero G, your blood isn’t getting pulled away from your head anymore. Astronauts say being in Zero G feels like you’re being hung slightly upside down. So scientists are experimenting with using negative pressure to pull your blood away from your brain. The goal is to eventually turn this bag version into a pair of pants. Astronauts in the future could put these blood-sucking anti-gravity pants on and help their brains feel like they’re still on Earth. This all happened last year, in Flanders. The train conductor, Ilyass Alba, dared to greet the passengers in two languages. One irate passenger lodged an official complaint… which was found to be legit – Alba shouldn’t have used French. These tough language laws have been hotly debated – all the way up to Belgium’s parliament. The conductor himself has taken to social media to discuss the experience, and has even started selling merch adorned with his bilingual greeting. For him, the uproar over a simple two-language “hello” is nothing more than bigotry. In the end, though, he isn’t being fired - according to reports he’ll just receive a slap on the wrist. By almost all accounts, the historic trade deal that was reached between the United States and the 27 nations of the European Union is far better for the United States than it is for Europe. Jeanna Smialek, the Brussels bureau chief for The Times, explains why the European Union gave in to President Trump and the blowback that’s causing. Guest: Jeanna Smialek (https://www.nytimes.com/by/jeanna-smialek) , the Brussels bureau chief for The New York Times. Background reading: • Is the European Union’s tariff deal with the United States good for Europe (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/28/world/europe/eu-trade-deal-trump-tariffs.html) ? • The framework agreement is not likely to do much for economic growth on either side. But it avoids new fissures on other foreign policy issues, particularly the war in Ukraine (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/28/world/europe/europe-trade-deal-trump.html) . We also recorded pieces for many great composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla and Isaac Albeniz (Asturias). You will also find almost all the classical music composers that wrote for the classical guitar. Make sure to discover Agustin Barrios Mangoré, Manuel Maria Ponce, Heitor Villa-Lobos and many more if you don't know their compositions already You can find our showroom in 76137 Karlsruhe, Roonstr. 31, Germany ‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾ #SiccasGuitars #guitarist #virtuosa ‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾ Lighted by Nyta: https://www.nyta.eu/en/
This Rolex from WWI has a full hunter case (I think that's what it's called, I always get confused as to what a true hunter case is). This one has a metal cover that goes over the front and you have to pop it open to see the dial at all. Very cool. #watches #watchmaking #watchrepair
