In the global fight to dominate A.I., China is quickly catching up to the United States — which is why President Trump barred the tech giant Nvidia from selling its superpowered computer chips to Chinese companies. Then, a few days ago, Mr. Trump abruptly changed course. Tripp Mickle, who covers Silicon Valley for The New York Times, explains how Nvidia’s C.E.O. persuaded the president that the best way to beat China at A.I. is to help them compete. Guest: Tripp Mickle (https://www.nytimes.com/by/tripp-mickle) , who reports about Silicon Valley for The New York Times. Background reading:  • Nvidia said that the U.S. had lifted restrictions (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/14/technology/nvidia-ai-chip-sales-china.html) on A.I. chip sales to China. • How Nvidia’s Jensen Huang persuaded Mr. Trump (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/17/technology/nvidia-trump-ai-chips-china.html) to sell A.I. chips to China. 🇭🇺🌈🚫 On June 28, around 200,000 people gathered in the streets of Budapest to celebrate Pride, braving the ban Prime Minister Viktor Orban put in place in March on “child protection” grounds. As it turns out, Orban’s maneuver backfired: by banning the demonstration, the ruling coalition was seen as cracking down on the freedom of assembly, and this went too far for a lot of people. As a result, this year’s Pride was the biggest ever held in the country. 🇪🇺 Joining the Hungarians in the crowd were Europeans from all over the continent, who came to support the local LGBTQ community and show their disapproval of Orban’s policies. We asked them why they came all the way to Budapest. Do you think this mobilization can shake things up in Hungary? Thanks to our lovely colleagues from ENTR Hungary for helping us on the ground ❤️ #entr_vox #entr_OG #pride #budapest #budapestpride #lgbtq #orban

The final act of the Second World War is its most costly episode. More than one million German soldiers die in 1945 alone. Before peace comes in May, liberators and the liberated alike must suffer the unimaginable. The last three months of dictatorship and war bring fanaticism and flight, civil courage, delusion, struggle and collapse. The last rebellion of the murderous regime. At the end of January 1945, Allied armies in both the East and the West stand at the borders of the German Reich. The Red Army conquers land in East Prussia and Upper Silesia, while American troops have taken up positions in Aachen and Alsace and British forces have reached the Ruhr Triangle near Heinsberg. Now it is only a matter of time before the Nazi terror regime succumbs to the oppressive superiority on the ground and in the air. Yet in this phase, Hitler's regime seems determined to drag as many as possible into the abyss. Fight to the end, is the slogan. Concentration camp prisoners are sent on their final marches, child soldiers die for no military purpose, refugees drown in the Baltic Sea, city dwellers burn in the inferno of the firestorms. The cause of all this misery is barricaded in his bunker beneath the Reich Chancellery, blaming his people alone for the catastrophe. Adolf Hitler orders the destruction of all basis for life for the German people - so that after he is gone, there would be only the past and no future. After his suicide, he leaves a legacy of scorched earth and battlefields that became mass graves for millions – as well as the terrible discovery of industrialised genocide. The 60-minute documentary relates the history of these dramatic 100 days, based on the key events, but also revives those scenes that symbolise apocalyptic decay. I love chilaquiles. I had them for the first time on a trip to the US in Austin, Texas and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s like breakfast nachos, but somehow even better. Crispy, saucy, a little spicy, and topped with a fried egg. Chilaquiles Ingredients 2 tomatoes, halved 1 jalapeno, halved 1 white onion, peeled, halved 200ml neutral oil (i use peanut) 12 white corn tortillas 200ml chicken stock Sea salt to taste fried eggs, to serve pickled red onions, coriander leaves, Queso Fresco cheese, diced avocado, to serve Method Step 1: Prep the sauce Preheat the oven 200°C fan forced (390°F). Place tomatoes, jalapeno, and onion on an oven tray and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of the oil. Season with salt and roast for 15-20 minutes, until the vegetables just start to soften and have coloured. Transfer vegetables to a large jug and blend with a stick blender. Season to taste. Step 2: Cook the tortillas Heat the remaining oil in a large, heavy-based fry pan over medium-high heat. Cut your white corn tortillas into quarters and fry them in the oil on both sides until golden brown. Drain the tortillas over a wire rack and season lightly with salt. Step 3: Finish and serve Remove most of the oil from the pan and add the salsa and chicken stock. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, until well combined. Add the crispy corn chips to the sauce and stir well. Serve the corn chips topped with a fried egg, some pickled onion slices, diced avocado, crumbled queso fresco and coriander.

Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin: The Mystic Who Said We Live in Two Worlds “We already live in a spiritual realm — we just don’t remember.” Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin, known as le philosophe inconnu (the unknown philosopher), was a French mystic who believed that reality is layered — and that the visible world is only half the truth. While Enlightenment thinkers pursued reason and science, Saint-Martin offered something different: a return to the heart, to inner experience, and to the spiritual world hidden beneath appearances. This video explores his forgotten philosophy — one that rejected ritual without love, saw truth in silence, and taught that the soul must awaken to its divine source. 👉 In a world obsessed with surfaces, Saint-Martin reminds us to look within. 0:00 — The Philosopher You’ve Never Heard Of 0:10 — Two Worlds: Visible Matter, Hidden Spirit 0:36 — “We Already Live in a Spiritual Realm” 0:53 — From Law and Army to Mysticism 1:08 — Disciple of Martinez de Pasqually and Ritual Initiation 1:20 — Rejecting Ceremony: The Way of the Heart 1:33 — Ritual Without Feeling Is Empty 1:43 — Enlightenment Rejection: “A Pyramid Covered in Hieroglyphs” 2:08 — Sensory Illusions and the Training of the Soul 2:39 — “All Mystics Speak the Same Language” 2:56 — Swedenborg and Inner Mirrors of Heaven 3:14 — The Inner Eye and the Light Beyond 3:26 — Truth as Contact with the Eternal 3:33 — From Plato to Hermeticism: As Above, So Below 3:50 — Mysticism as Remembering, Not Escaping 4:04 — Beyond Churchism: Union with the Divine 4:21 — “Enter into the Heart of God” 4:30 — Roots, Trees, and Inner Growth 4:43 — Echoes of St. John of the Cross 5:00 — God Is Not Distant — But Within 5:10 — Saint-Martin’s Marginalization in His Own Time 5:24 — Influence on Romanticism and 19th-Century Mystics 5:40 — The Quiet Survival of Martinism 6:00 — From Enlightenment to Mindfulness: His Ideas Today 6:17 — Resonance with Jung and Spiritual Psychology 6:28 — “All Mystics Come from the Same Country” 6:45 — The Journey Is Inward — To the Forgotten World Within

Gaston Bachelard: The Philosopher of Dream Houses and Elemental Imagination “The house shelters daydreaming. The house protects the dreamer.” Gaston Bachelard believed that our homes are not just shelters — they are dreamscapes. In The Poetics of Space, Bachelard showed how attics, staircases, and corners shape our thoughts, memories, and imaginations. A scientist turned poet-philosopher, he explored how fire, water, air, and earth awaken hidden emotions and archetypes. This video takes you deep into Bachelard’s poetic philosophy — where the ordinary becomes symbolic and the imagination finds its roots in space, silence, and solitude. 👉 Whether you’re an artist, philosopher, architect, or daydreamer, Bachelard’s world will make you see your own home — and your inner life — in a new light. 0:00 — How Our Homes Shape Our Inner Worlds 0:08 — Gaston Bachelard: From Science to Imagination 0:21 — The Poetics of Space: More Than Geometry 0:39 — Inhabited Space vs Geometric Space 1:02 — Dreaming Through Objects: Doors, Stairs, Drawers 1:11 — “The House Protects the Dreamer”: Key Quotes 1:22 — Corners and Cupboards as Inner Portals 1:36 — Fire, Water, Air, Earth: The Four Elemental Books 1:49 — Psychoanalysis of Fire: Desire and Destruction 2:08 — Water and Dreams: Merging with Infinity 2:33 — Air and Dreams: Sky, Wind, and Aspiration 2:44 — Earth and Reveries of Will: Grounded Imagination 3:04 — The Elements as Hormones of Creativity 3:28 — Archetypes and Symbols: The Hearth, the Cave, the Attic 3:43 — From Jung to Bachelard: The Individual Experience 3:50 — Phenomenology of the Image: Rooted in Lived Space 4:01 — Dwelling as Meaning: Connections to Heidegger 4:11 — Merleau-Ponty and the Embodied Imagination 4:23 — Why Bachelard Is Still Overlooked 4:41 — His Legacy in Architecture, Literature, and Art 4:53 — Dreaming Staircases and Poetic Spaces 5:15 — A Life Between Epistemology and Revery 5:20 — The Imagination Begins at Home 5:31 — “Intensity Is Within Ourselves”: Final Reflections 6:02 — Linger in Your Own Space — and Dream

Otto Neurath: The Philosopher Who Invented Infographics and Predicted Emojis “Words divide, pictures unite.” Otto Neurath believed the world didn’t need more abstract theory—it needed clarity. As a key figure in the Vienna Circle, he pioneered a visual language that could explain complex ideas without a single sentence. From museum charts to emojis, Neurath's Isotype system reshaped how we share knowledge. This video explores how Neurath fused philosophy, sociology, and design into a single mission: to make science accessible to all. Long overshadowed by Wittgenstein and Carnap, Neurath may be the true grandfather of the infographic age. 👉 Discover how one man’s pictograms became the foundation for everything from Olympic signs to digital emojis. 0:00 — The Philosopher Who Replaced Words with Pictures 0:10 — Meet Otto Neurath: Vienna Circle Visionary 0:27 — The Scientific World-Conception and Unified Science 0:45 — Rejecting Metaphysics: Neurath vs. Wittgenstein 1:22 — A Mission for Education and Social Reform 1:42 — Escaping Fascism and Spreading His Vision 2:01 — The Birth of ISOTYPE: Visual Language for Everyone 2:23 — “Words Divide, Pictures Unite”: His Guiding Motto 2:48 — Pictograms Over Paragraphs: How ISOTYPE Worked 3:15 — Simplicity as Philosophy: A New Visual Grammar 3:36 — Data Comes Alive: Factories, Workers, Machines 4:01 — How Neurath Prefigured the Age of Icons and Emojis 4:23 — From Elephants to Emojis: A Signature Legacy 4:46 — Quiet Influence: Philosophy in Design 5:14 — A Visual Culture: Neurath’s Relevance Today 5:30 — A Dream of Shared Knowledge — And How It Lives On

After a decade of modern China’s socialist transformation beginning in 1949, Mao Zedong launched the Great Leap Forward. It led to famine, a legitimacy crisis, and set the scene for the 1960s Cultural Revolution. These events—the Great Leap Forward and the related Chinese famine of the late 1950s—are hotly disputed by commentators on world politics today. Rebuilding A Rustproof Land Rover - Part #19. The new Grille and Headlight covers were fitted in place. I bought a pair of new doors as the old ones were in very bad condition. I did consider leaving them in the shiny black finish but changed my mind and I think they do look better in Green. After rubbing down the original paintwork as a key for the new paint, I painted the inside of the doors using Satin Black paint. https://www.patreon.com/keithappleton IF YOU ENJOY WATCHING THESE DETAILED TUTORIAL VIDEOS THAT I PRODUCE TO HELP BEGINNERS TO THE HOBBY, THEN PLEASE BECOME A PATRON OF MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL VIA "PATREON" AND ALLOW ME THE TIME TO MAKE EVEN MORE OF THESE SPECIALIST AND HIGHLY DETAILED TUTORIAL VIDEOS. Runway trends never influenced Vivienne Westwood; she drew from her own obsessions. The 'Mother of Punk', Vivienne, designed all the Sex Pistols' outfits, shaping the entire punk rock aesthetic. After the band split, she was uncertain about her fashion direction: she wanted to leverage her momentum with the group while also carving her own identity. In 1981, she and Malcolm McLaren debuted at London Fashion Week with the collection called Pirates. Since then, Vivienne Westwood has dominated the industry, leaving a lasting mark on fashion and culture. Her supermodel moments were legendary, but it was her political positions that epitomised her punk spirit. She warned about climate change, opposed fracking, defended controversial figures, and engaged in media-savvy stunts for her causes before the designer-turned-activist trend emerged. Her name is beloved, both in the industry and globally. This is a new workout machine for space. I’m testing it inside a plane that’s about to DIVE TOWARD THE GROUND and make me feel weightless… Astronauts spend 2.5 hours a day working out in space, so they don’t lose bone density or muscle mass without gravity. But their equipment isn’t great and it’s bulky. To make things worse, all that movement shakes the International Space Station, which is trying to navigate a precise orbit and host delicate experiments… To counteract that, these machines need to have some type of vibration isolation - like the they’ve had to place 900 kilograms of stuff underneath the treadmill, used to dampen the vibrations forces. We had to send all that mass into space. We need better smaller options. Basically, we need… SPACE PILATES. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history by becoming the first humans to walk on the Moon. But this triumphant American achievement was also built, in part, by a team of German scientists, some of whom had deep ties to the Nazi regime. This documentary exposes the hidden connections between NASA’s moon mission and Nazi Germany, revealing the moral compromises made in pursuit of victory during the Cold War space race. We uncover the shadowed legacy of Wernher von Braun, Arthur Rudolph, and more than 100 German engineers brought to the United States after World War II through Operation Paperclip. Spearheading the development of the V-2 rocket (A-4) during the war, von Braun’s innovations came at a devastating human cost—over 20,000 forced laborers died under horrific conditions in underground Nazi weapons factories. Despite President Truman’s explicit orders not to support Nazi sympathizers, U.S. military officials secretly recruited these engineers, sending them first to a testing site in New Mexico. Later, they were relocated to Huntsville, Alabama, where “Rocket City” became the birthplace of the Saturn V rocket, the engine that would power the Apollo missions. While the Soviets shocked the world by launching Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, the German-American team helped the U.S. respond with its own satellite and ultimately lay the foundation for the creation of NASA. As the 1960s progressed, von Braun became a central figure in America's space race, forging a close relationship with President John F. Kennedy, who in 1961 boldly declared that America would land a man on the Moon. The plan was in motion. The first Apollo launch was targeted for 1967, and by July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 launched from Cape Canaveral. Four days later, on July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin stepped onto the lunar surface. It was a defining moment in human history, but one whose roots trace back to wartime Germany. After the Moon landing, many of the German scientists were quietly retired or transferred, their controversial pasts kept largely out of public view.
