Wat gebeurt er in onze stad als de stroom langere tijd uitvalt? Geen internet, geen telefoon en geen toegang tot de informatie die we normaal met een paar klikken opzoeken. Daarom bereidt de gemeente zich hier steeds beter op voor. Dinsdag werd geoefend op twee noodsteunpunten, waar inwoners tijdens een crisis terechtkunnen voor informatie en hulp. Maar wie krijgt voorrang als die hulp schaars is? Dat zorgt voor een lastig spanningsveld, blijkt tijdens deze oefening. De oefening vond plaats in buurthuis De Boomspijker in het centrum en bij Sportcentrum Caland in Nieuw-West. De gemeente en de Veiligheidsregio Amsterdam-Amstelland oefenden daar samen met onder meer het Rode Kruis, politie, handhaving en zorgverleners. Ook buurtbewoners deden mee en kregen een casus voorgelegd waarin verschillende dilemma's aan bod kwamen. Die liepen uiteen van praktische vragen, zoals een oplader of eten, tot meer urgente situaties, zoals iemand met een gebroken bloedend been. Sommige deelnemers gingen helemaal op in hun rol. ''Ik heb zo'n pijn!'', schreeuwt de een, terwijl een ander vraagt: ''Ik wil graag hondenvoer voor mijn hond.'' Crisisplek Het scenario waar de deelnemers mee oefenden is een langdurige stroomstoring van 72 uur. Een noodsteunpunt moet in zo'n situatie een herkenbare plek in de buurt zijn waar mensen terechtkunnen. Volgens Carline Hansen, projectleider van de noodsteunpunten, is Amsterdam nog onvoldoende voorbereid op een dergelijke situatie: ''Juist met dit soort oefeningen, proberen we in kaart te brengen wat nodig is.'' Niet alleen in Amsterdam, maar ook in andere steden vinden het hele jaar door oefeningen met noodsteunpunten plaats. Het Rijk gaat voorlopig uit van ongeveer één noodsteunpunt per 10.000 inwoners. Voor onze stad zou dat neerkomen op zo'n 100 locaties. Burgemeester Halsema weet nog niet of die 100 noodsteunpunten haalbaar zijn: ''Ik vraag me af hoe realistisch dat is, al die plekken moeten met elkaar verbonden worden, dat vergt afstemming en bureaucratie. Misschien moet je in onze stad kiezen voor aantal grotere locaties.'' Zijn Amsterdammers klaar voor een crisis? Uit onderzoek van de gemeente blijkt dat slechts een kwart van de inwoners een noodpakket in huis heeft. Landelijk ligt dat percentage een stuk hoger: op 44 procent. Vooral jongeren onder de 30 geven aan dat ze een noodpakket vaak te duur vinden of er simpelweg geen ruimte voor hebben. Met dit soort 'noodsteunpuntoefeningen' wil de gemeente meer bewustwording creëren. Over the past three years, Israel killed over 74,000 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, but many believe that number is a vast undercount. The killing continues despite a so-called ceasefire that took effect about a year ago. “Every single aspect of the life of the people of Gaza has changed once and forever,” since October 7, says Akram al-Satarri, a Gaza-based journalist. Door de komst van AI staat het schrijven van essays door studenten aan de UvA onder druk. Er worden minder essayopdrachten gegeven om mogelijke fraude te voorkomen. Docenten betreuren dat, maar zoeken naar alternatieve manieren om essays te toetsen. Studentenvakbond ASVA begrijpt dat het moeilijk is om AI-gebruik te controleren, maar vindt dat studenten recht hebben op de oorspronkelijke hoeveelheid essayopdrachten. Minder essayopdrachten dus, en dat betreurt ook Judith Huigens, opleidingsdirecteur en docent van de bacheloropleiding Politicologie aan de UvA. "Het schrijven van essays is essentieel voor het oefenen van academische vaardigheden. Studenten leren hiermee nadenken over wat ze ergens over willen zeggen en vervolgens, als ze argumenten hebben ontwikkeld, die op een gestructureerde en toegankelijke manier op te schrijven. Ik vind dat heel belangrijk." Nieuwe manier van toetsen Om fraude te voorkomen, worden de essayopdrachten die nog wel worden gegeven al tijdens het schrijfproces getoetst en beoordeeld. Tussentijds spreekt Huigens de studenten over hun essay en zijn er presentaties voor de groep. Maar studentenvakbond ASVA vindt dat er niet gemorreld moet worden aan het aantal essayopdrachten. "Het is ongelooflijk lastig om het gebruik van AI te controleren", zegt Josephine de Haas van de ASVA. "Maar dat neemt niet weg dat studenten er recht op hebben om deze academische vaardigheden te kunnen blijven oefenen." Risico Hoewel er een risico blijft dat AI wordt gebruikt bij het schrijven van een essay, vindt De Haas dat het aantal essays hetzelfde moet blijven. "Er zijn al methodes om fraude en plagiaat op te sporen, dus dat kan", zegt ze. Huigens is nu bezig om verantwoord AI-gebruik in het lesprogramma op te laten nemen. "Met opdrachten en bijeenkomsten gericht op verantwoord AI-gebruik. What’s your take on the French high school protests? 🎓🪧 🔥More than 450,000 people took to the streets all across France yesterday in solidarity with the teen protests, according to organisers.
