A favourite breakfast in our house – corn fritters pan-fried till golden, topped with crushed avo, zesty pico de gallo and soft-poached eggs. It’s fresh, hearty, and perfect for slow mornings. Made in partnership with @kitchenaidausnz using the Cordless Go Top Down Chopper, Cordless Go Citrus Juicer and Cordless Go Hand Blender. #Kitchenaid #madewithkitchenaid #breakfast #recipe #cornfritters Ingredients 3 corn cobs, peeled, husk removed 1 red onion, chopped 1 clove garlic, smashed 2 eggs ¼ cup (60ml) coconut milk 3 spring onions, finely sliced sea salt and black pepper, to season 1 cup (150g) self-raising flour 2 tsp Tajin seasoning 1 avocado juice of 1 lime 2 tomatoes, finely diced ½ white onion, finely diced 1 jalapeno chilli, finely diced half a bunch coriander, leaves chopped 2 tbsp olive oil poached eggs, to serve Method Slice kernels off corn cobs and place half in a small food processor. Add onion and garlic and pulse until a paste forms. Transfer mixture to a medium bowl along with remaining corn kernels. Stir in eggs, milk and spring onions, season with salt and black pepper. Fold in flour and seasoning, until just combined. Set batter aside. Mash avocado with half the lime juice, until smooth. Season with salt. For pico de gallo, combine tomatoes, white onion, jalapeno and coriander in a small bowl with the remaining lime juice and mix well. Heat some of the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Working in batches, drop ¼ cupfuls of batter into the pan and allow to spread to about 8cm wide. Cook for 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel and keep warm while repeating with remaining batter and oil. To serve, place 3 fritters on each serving plate, top with avocado puree and scatter over pico de gallo. Serve with poached eggs.

Shotgun Shells: Ingredients 1 brown onion, finely chopped 1 jalapeno, finely chopped 1½ cups (240g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated 1 tbsp onion powder 1 tbsp garlic powder 1 tbsp smoked paprika 1½ tsp sea salt 1½ tsp cracked black pepper 500g (1.1 lbs) pork mince 250g dried cannelloni shells 20 strips streaky bacon 1 cup (250ml) BBQ sauce Method Combine onion, jalapeno, cheese, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper and pork mince in a large bowl, mix well to combine. Fill cannelloni shells with mince mixture, then wrap each shell in a strip of bacon. Place on a large tray, cover and refrigerate overnight. Preheat a smoker to 120°C (250F). Place cannelloni shells directly on the smoker grill and smoke for 1 hour 15 minutes. Heat BBQ sauce in a small saucepan on low, until warmed. Brush shells with some sauce to glaze, continue to smoke for 20 minutes. Baste again with the sauce, then smoke for a further 20 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter and serve hot. #shorts #cooking

A session with Terry Real, a marriage and family therapist, can get uncomfortable. He’s known to mirror and amplify the emotions of his clients, sometimes cursing and nearly yelling, often in an attempt to get men in touch with the emotions they’re not used to honoring. Real says men are often pushed to shut off their expression of vulnerability when they’re young as part of the process of becoming a man. That process, he says, can lead to myriad problems in their relationships. He sees it as his job to pull them back into vulnerability and intimacy, reconfiguring their understanding of masculinity in order to build more wholesome and connected families. In this episode, Real explains why vulnerability is so essential to healthy masculinity and why his work with men feels more urgent than ever. He explains why he thinks our current models of masculinity are broken and what it will take to build new ones. At the same time, as Descartes identified, we can doubt almost everything, but we can't doubt the fact of experience. Yet there is a danger that these two central beliefs are irreconcilable. From the point of view of evolution, everything biological has a function in sustaining the species, but researchers claim no function can be found for conscious experience. And if there is no survival benefit to experience, why has it evolved? Should we accept that the theory of evolution and the reality of consciousness are incompatible? Do we need to radically alter our understanding of one, or the other, or both? Or is the core issue that we have no credible theory of consciousness, and without it, we are not going to be able to make experience compatible with science at all? #consciousness #biology #artificialintelligence Stuart Hameroff is an American anaesthesiologist and professor at the University of Arizona. He is known for his controversial and creative theories on the quantum origin of consciousness. Antonella Tramacere is an expert in the philosophy of cognition and neuroscience. Denis Noble is Professor Emeritus and co-Director of Computational Physiology at Oxford University. He is known for his ground-breaking work in biology and physiology. Het is weer tijd voor een Ommetje met Tom X FC Centrum special! Dit keer krijgen we een kijkje binnen bij het Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, oftewel ITA. De Stadsschouwburg die nu op het Leidseplein staat dateert uit 1894, maar de geschiedenis gaat veel verder terug, tot 1638. Tot tweemaal toe brandde de schouwburg – waarvan de eerste locatie aan Keizersgracht was - af tot aan de grond en moest deze opnieuw gebouwd worden. De laatste keer, in 1894, hadden ze het anders aangepakt dan de keren ervoor en bouwden een gebouw dat voornamelijk uit steen bestond in plaats van hout. En dat heeft z’n vruchten afgeworpen, want nu – ruim 130 jaar later – is het gebouw nog altijd in gebruik. In al die jaren is ‘t natuurlijk wel een stukje moderner geworden, maar elke verandering wordt met zo veel mogelijk respect voor het monumentale pand uitgevoerd. Zo zijn bijzondere details in het pand, zoals een oud luchtsysteem en blusgaten (die al jaren niet meer worden gebruikt), maar ook de originele kroonluchters, nog altijd behouden gebleven. Tegenwoordig zijn er wel wat minder stoelen in gebruik, maar 750 van de 900, omdat het zicht op het podium vanaf die overige stoelen te slecht is. Daar deed men vroeger niet zo moeilijk over, omdat het toen vooral ook ging om het ‘zien en gezien worden’. Vandaar ook de hoefijzervorm van het theater. Ook niet theaterliefhebbers hebben misschien wel warme herinneringen aan dit gebouw. Want waar we nu Ajax eren op ‘t Museumplein, gebeurde dat vroeger nog hier, op ‘t Leidse. De Ajaxspelers namen dan plaats op het balkon, waar Tom en Josephine ook even een kijkje mogen nemen. Waar moeten we volgens jou nog meer heen?
