Hij kwam in Nederland terecht en doorstond een asielprocedure van zeven jaar, waarover hij het autobiografische verslag 'Gevangen in zwart-witdenken' schreef. Hij heeft hierna nog drie boeken geschreven: 'De god met de blauwe ogen' (2010), 'De verloren hand' (2016) en 'De getemde man' (2023). ‘Het is omgekeerd: er wordt zoveel aandacht aan Sierra Leone gegeven in de kranten, dat Sierra Leone een drugsland is, terwijl Nederland gewoon bekendstaat als drugsland.’ Met Babah Tarawally praten we over Sierra Leone, het gebruik van kush, de havenhandel van Zuid-Amerika, West-Afrika en Europa en hoe een Nederlandse man het imago van een heel land kan verpesten. Steak Fajitas: Serves: 4 Prep time: 10 min Cook time: 15 min Ingredients 1 white onion 2 tomatoes, diced 1 jalapeno, seeded, diced juice of 1 lime sea salt and pepper, to season 2 tbsp olive oil 1 yellow capsicum (bell pepper), thinly sliced 1 green capsicum (bell pepper), thinly sliced 3 cloves garlic, finely sliced 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp ground coriander 1 tsp smoked paprika 1 tsp dried oregano pinch dried chilli flakes 1kg beef flank steak, trimmed 8 flour tortillas guacamole, to serve Method For pico de gallo, finely chop half the white onion and place in a medium bowl. Add tomato, jalapeno and lime juice, season with salt and mix well. Set aside. Slice remaining onion half thinly. Heat half the oil in a large frying pan on medium high heat. Cook onion and capsicum, tossing for 2-3 mins, until softened. Season with salt and pepper. Add garlic, half the spices and the chilli flakes, cook stirring for a further minute, until aromatic. Transfer to a plate and set aside. Slice steak into thin strips, 5cm long (2 inches). Season with some salt and the remaining spices. Heat remaining oil in the pan on high heat. Cook beef in batches, for 1 minute each side, then set aside with capsicum mixture. When the final batch of beef is cooked, return all beef and capsicum mixture back to the pan and toss quickly to heat through. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Toast tortillas over open flame, turning several times until starting to char. Serve tortillas filled with beef, topped with pica de gallo and some guacamole. Roll up to enclose and enjoy! #shorts #recipe #cooking

Bill explains how the two-liter plastic soda bottle begins as a plastic tube, called a preform, which is heated and inflated with air in a bottle-shaped mold. He explains how the stretching of the preform creates a crystalline regions in the bottle's plastic (polyethylene terephthalate) that create a bottle with great strength, low permeability to carbon dioxide, but which is also lightweight—some 35 times lighter than a glass bottle of the same size. Bill explains key features of the bottles design, including: why the bottle looks like it does, why the neck has gaps in its threads, and how the tamper-proof ring works. He also discusses "hot-fill bottles" used for sports drinks and plastic juice bottles, noting the panels molded into the bottles to accommodate temperature changes. Bottles from the 1970s had hemispherical bottoms, which were covered with a plastic cap so the bottle could sit on the table. 05:20 Petaloid bottom To get rid of the cap, manufacturers invented a "petaloid" bottom — meaning like a flower. This petaloid bottom provides stability while maintaining strength. 05:36 Neck of the bottle The bottle neck features specific engineering elements: a lip for the mold, a beveled lip for the tamper-proof ring, and discontinuous threads to release pressure. Engineers have reduced the neck size to save plastic (about 2g per bottle). 06:59 Tests on neck To engineer a new neck for the bottle engineers used trial and error. They subjected the neck to many tests. 07:39 Hot fill bottles "Hot-fill" bottles are designed for beverages requiring higher fill temperatures. At times running up to six times target, the banks blamed the Ukraine war, but critics point to the rapid rise in inflation before war broke out, and amongst other factors often find quantitative easing at fault. Moreover, some claim there is a more fundamental problem that there is no overall coherent economic theory in the first place. Bank models failed to predict the 2008 crash or the more recent cost of living crisis. In 2015, the European Central Bank claimed that neither monetarist nor Keynesian economics provided solutions to the financial crisis, leading some to question if any economic theory had the answers. Should we conclude that central bank failures to predict, let alone avoid, economic crises are evidence of a deep underlying flaw in their understanding? Or were banks just negligent in their failure to respond to evidence of rising inflation? Dire Wolves went extinct. Are they back? Scientists at a company called Colossal Biosciences created these “Dire Wolf” pups using gene editing. They first extracted pieces of ancient Dire Wolf DNA from two fossils, and used that to map out their genomes. Then, they compared that to the DNA of a bunch of different wolves and pinpointed the places that made Dire Wolves unique - like for example the LCORL gene, responsible for their larger size. Then, using the DNA of a close relative, the Gray Wolf, they edited 14 genes that made Dire Wolves unique - and swapped this DNA into an egg that was then fertilized and put into a surrogate dog. The (adorable) pups are larger, more muscular and have white coats and this unique howl... The big hope is to one day restore some of the world’s lost biodiversity. In an unprecedented wave of activism, Serbian students are leading a historic revolution against corruption. Their movement already succeeded in rallying all sectors of civil society and toppling the Prime Minister. And they’re not even close to being done. Since December 2024, student-led protests have shaken Serbia: occupied universities, near-daily demonstrations, country-wide marches, blocked roads, squares and bridges. And it all started with a handful of students determined to put an end to the endemic corruption plaguing their country. But how did they manage to rally so many people behind them? We travelled to Serbia and spoke to several of them to find out more about their anti-corruption movement, and understand just how far it can go. Carnatic music has a variety of beautiful compositions in this raga by many composers. This raga predominantly conveys Veera rasa (valour) and at times, Roudra rasa (fury). When you listen to Arabhi, the atmosphere is charged with religious fervour hence Arabhi also conveys the emotion of Devotion or Bhakthi. Here we begin our medley with one of the absolute gems in literary and musical history - “Sadhinchane” - a masterpiece composition of Saint Thyagaraja and being the third one of the Pancharatna Kritis. Hot Cross Buns: Makes: 12 Prep time: 30 minutes + rising Cook time: 30 mins Ingredients 150g raisins zest and juice of 1 lg orange ½ cup (125ml) milk, lukewarm 7g sachet dried yeast ⅓ cup (75g) caster sugar 600g plain flour, plus 50g extra 1 tsp fine sea salt 2 tsp ground cinnamon ½ tsp ground allspice ½ tsp ground ginger ¼ tsp ground nutmeg 1 tsp vanilla extract 4 eggs, beaten 175g butter, diced, at room temperature 60g currants 2 tbsp apricot jam Combine the raisins, orange zest and juice in a small bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, then set aside to macerate. Mix the milk, yeast and 1 tbsp of the sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer and let sit for 10 minutes until it becomes foamy. Add the flour, remaining sugar, spices, vanilla, salt, and eggs to the milk mixture and fit the dough hook attachment. Mix on low speed until a shaggy dough forms, then add the butter a few cubes at a time, allowing to incorporate before adding more. Increase the speed to medium, and mix for 5 minutes, until dough is pulling away cleanly from the sides of the bowl. Add in the raisins and the orange juice and beat for a further 3 minutes until mixture comes back together. Transfer dough to a lightly floured bench and form into a ball. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm draft free place for 1½ to 2 hours until doubled in size. Punch down the dough and refrigerate at this point for 8-12 hours for increased flavour, then shape them the next day, or shape straight away. Grease a 22cm x 33cm (9 x 13 inch) baking tray. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured bench and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a tight ball and add to the prepared pan. Cover loosely again and place in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Preheat oven to 180°C fan forced (350°F). Combine the extra flour and 50ml of water in a small bowl and mix to a smooth paste, then transfer to a small piping bag. Snip a corner off and then pipe crosses on top of buns. Bake the buns for 28-30 minutes until golden brown. In a small bowl, combine jam and 1 tbsp boiling water. Stir until completely mixed. Brush the glaze over the hot buns as soon as they come out of the oven. Leave the buns to cool for about 20 minutes before eating.
