The worldviews and personal opinions of the scientists are thought to be irrelevant. But might this be a dangerous mistake? Critics argue the personal experience and outlook of the scientist is a key element that cannot be eradicated. Einstein's criticism of quantum mechanics, for example, was ultimately based on his personal view that 'God does not play dice with the world'. Meanwhile accounts of the brain reflect the historical time and perspectives of the scientists involved – once the brain was seen as a telephone exchange, now it is commonly described as a computer. Should we conclude that all scientific theories are influenced by the personal outlook of the scientist, and the particular worldview they hold? As a result, do we need to ensure that scientists hold a wide range of different outlooks and have varied personal backgrounds? We mochten weer op pad met Hans en Jeroen van Politie Amsterdam, dit keer tijdens een avonddienst in de Leidsebuurt. 'T Leidseplein is natuurlijk ook in de avond en nacht een levendige plek, dus genoeg te doen voor Hans en Jeroen. Vanwege ADE was ‘t lekker druk, maar die periode verloopt – zoals Hans en Jeroen ons vertelden – eigenlijk altijd heel gemoedelijk. En mocht er toch ellende uitbreken, dan hebben ze natuurlijk altijd iets in petto, zoals deze calamiteitenverlichting. Hans en Jeroen vinden de gezelligheid hartstikke leuk en werken nauw samen met bewakers en ondernemers uit de buurt om alles soepel te laten verlopen. Met de calamiteitenverlichting kan de politie een spotlight zetten op het Leidseplein. De gezellige sfeerverlichting gaat dan even verloren, maar zo kan de politie wel ongeregeldheden beter in de gaten houden. En wist je trouwens dat je in de Leidsebuurt een inleverpunt hebt voor de gevonden voorwerpen? Zelfs ‘s avonds kan je die inleveren. Vervolgens zorgt de gemeente dat de voorwerpen bij de rechtmatige eigenaar terugkomen. -- Wij zijn FC Centrum, een FanClub voor onze oude binnenstad. I wanted to create a reimagined version of ‘Wish You Were Here’ firstly because it’s a beautiful and timeless song by Pink Floyd and secondly because it resonates deeply with modern times, even 50 years after its release. At its core I feel it speaks to the recurring human experience of loss, disconnection and yearning for authenticity. Are we as a society repeating history- failing to learn from past mistakes of war, political division and environmental or human neglect? Could we be doing more to learn from our past? Onafhankelijke ATM’s, geldautomaten die niet in handen zijn van de grote banken, kunnen gebruikt worden om geld wit te wassen. We gingen undercover om te zien hoe onafhankelijke aanbieders van geldautomaten in Nederland reageren op klanten die mogelijk willen witwassen. Eind 2023 krijgt Zembla een tip. Onafhankelijke geldautomaten zouden kunnen worden gebruikt om geld wit te wassen. In Nederland zijn niet alle geldautomaten van een bank. De white label automaten van onafhankelijke aanbieders worden niet altijd gevuld door gecertificeerde geldtransporteurs, maar ook door ondernemers die zelf een ATM exploiteren. Juist deze zelfvul-ATM's vormen een hoog witwasrisico, zeggen deskundigen. Criminelen kunnen een ATM huren en stoppen daar bankbiljetten in die verdiend zijn met bijvoorbeeld drugs- of mensenhandel. Als nietsvermoedende klanten komen pinnen, krijgen ze deze bankbiljetten in handen. Tegelijkertijd gaat eenzelfde bedrag van hun bankrekening naar de rekening die gekoppeld is aan de geldautomaat en die in handen is van de criminelen. Over die zelfvulautomaten zegt witwasexpert Dick Crijns: “Dat kan gebruikt worden als een heel goed instrument, met name in die eerste fase van het witwasproces, namelijk geld in het bancaire systeem brengen zonder dat het al te zeer opvalt.” Crijns werkte tientallen jaren bij de FIOD.  De antifraude-afdeling van de Europese Commissie noemt het risico van de onafhankelijke ATM’s in recente witwasrapportages ‘zeer hoog’ en hekelt het gebrek aan controle en alertheid in sommige lidstaten. Toezicht op de onafhankelijke ATM’s ontbreekt in Nederland grotendeels, ontdekte Zembla, omdat de aanbieders ervan niet onder Wet ter voorkoming van Witwassen en Financiering van Terrorisme vallen. Onze onderzoeksjournalisten gingen undercover om uit te zoeken hoe het witwasrisico bij zelfvulautomaten in de praktijk werkt. Ze deden zich voor als consultants in de vakantieparkbranche. Daarbij voerden ze gesprekken met drie van de vier Nederlandse ATM-aanbieders. Vertegenwoordigers van deze bedrijven stellen allemaal dat ze zich aan de wet willen houden, maar breken de gesprekken niet af als ze te horen krijgen dat de klant een strafblad heeft en de ATM wil gebruiken om geld wit te wassen. De verkopers van één van de bedrijven leggen uit hoe de omzet gefingeerd kan worden, zodat buiten het zicht van de fiscus geld via de ATM kan worden witgewassen. Ook bieden ze aan een buitenlandse bankrekening te regelen, als de klant ‘in Nederland geen rekening mag openen’.  Een andere aanbieder noemt de ATM ‘een ideale witwasmachine’ en zegt daarom stevige afspraken te willen maken om fraude te voorkomen. Hij stelt echter tegelijkertijd dat er ‘niemand naar gaat kraaien’ als de automaat met een alternatieve geldstroom wordt gevuld. Oud-FIOD-rechercheur Van Koningsveld en voormalig officier van justitie Nicole Voorhuis bekeken de undercoverontmoetingen en oordelen dat de aanbieders tijdens de gesprekken tal van ‘red flags’ negeren en ernstig tekortschieten in de beoordeling van witwasrisico’s.  We vragen de ATM-aanbieders na de undercover-opnamen om een reactie. Die laten weten dat de verkopers in de undercovergesprekken buiten hun boekje zijn gegaan, maar dat op basis daarvan geen conclusies getrokken kunnen worden. De verkopers zijn niet betrokken bij de beoordeling van klanten en hun uitspraken komen niet overheen met het beleid van de ATM-bedrijven, stellen ze. De bedrijven geven verder aan volgens de regels te werken en met strikte protocollen die bedoeld zijn om misbruik te voorkomen. En automaten worden weggehaald bij vermoedens van fraude. Ons vakantiepark zou volgens hen uiteindelijk niet door de toelatingsprocedure zijn gekomen. Your Services geeft aan niet van plan geweest zijn om een ATM aan ons te leveren en dat een buitenlandse rekening door hun niet kan worden gefaciliteerd. YourCash stelt een aanvullende screening te hebben uitgevoerd die niet tot negatieve resultaten heeft geleid. En In2Retail verklaart onze journalisten niet de deur te hebben gewezen omdat ze bang waren met criminelen te maken te hebben. Pork Schnitzel with Spätzle & Mustard Sauce Ingredients: 350g (12 oz) plain flour, divided 5 large eggs 125ml (4 fl oz) milk ¼ red cabbage, thinly sliced 1 red onion, thinly sliced 1 cinnamon stick 1 star anise 1 tsp red wine vinegar 4 pork chops 200g (7 oz) breadcrumbs 1 tsp fennel powder 200ml (7 fl oz) chicken stock 2 tbsp wholegrain mustard 2 tbsp double cream salt & pepper olive oil & butter Method: Whisk 250g (9 oz) flour with ½ tsp salt. Add milk and 3 eggs; mix until smooth, like mashed potatoes. Cover, chill 1 hour. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a pot. Sauté onion, star anise, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt for 2–3 mins. Add cabbage; cook until halved in size. Add vinegar, stir, set aside. Butterfly pork to 1cm (⅜ inch) thick, season with salt & pepper. Set up flour (100g/3½ oz, seasoned with fennel, salt & pepper), beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. Coat pork in flour, egg, then breadcrumbs. For mustard sauce: melt 2 tbsp butter, whisk in 1 tbsp flour for 1–2 mins. Gradually add stock, whisking until smooth. Stir in mustard, season with salt, set aside. Boil salted water. Push dough through a spätzle maker or grater. Cook 2–3 mins until spätzle floats. Drain, cool on an oiled tray. Fry pork in oil over medium heat, 2–3 mins per side, flipping until golden and cooked through (10–12 mins total). In another pan, melt butter, fry spätzle until golden. Stir cream into mustard sauce. Plate spätzle, cabbage, and schnitzel. Drizzle with sauce and serve. #shorts
