Welp: just after I published my mining safety lamp video, I came across another lamp with a lot of fascinating design features not covered in my previous video. Invented by German mining engineer Carl Wolf in the 1880s, the Wolf Safety Lamp was the first to run on benzene rather than oil. This example, manufactured by the Wold Safety Lamp Company of Lead, England, in the 1910, incorporates a number of other fascinating design features, including a primer tape friction relighter and a Cunyghame-Cadman Device for firedamp detection. Yorkshire Puddings Serves: 8 Prep time: 10 min Cook time: 40min Ingredients - 1 cup (120 g) plain flour - 1 cup (240 ml) whole eggs (approximately 4–5 eggs) - 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk - pinch of salt - 250 g (9 oz) beef tallow Method 1. Combine equal volumes of flour, eggs, and milk in a large jug or bowl. Add a pinch of salt. Blend the mixture with a whisk or hand blender until smooth. This base recipe (1 cup of each) makes about 8 Yorkshire puddings. Increase the quantities if needed for a larger batch. 2. Cover the batter and place it in the fridge to rest for at least 2 hours or overnight. 3. Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan) / 220°C / gas mark 7 / 425°F. 4. Add about 1 cm (⅜ inch) of beef tallow to each cavity of a muffin tin or oven-safe ramekin. Place the tin or ramekins in the oven and heat for 15–20 minutes, or until the tallow is just starting to smoke. 5. Remove the batter from the fridge and give it a quick stir to ensure it’s smooth and well-mixed. 6. Carefully remove the hot tin or ramekins from the oven. Pour the batter into the centre of each cavity, filling almost to the top of the hot tallow. 7. Return the tin or ramekins to the oven and bake for 20–30 minutes. Avoid opening the oven door during baking. The puddings should rise significantly, becoming golden and crisp. 8. Once baked, remove from the oven and carefully pour off any excess tallow from the centre of each pudding. Transfer the puddings to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving while hot.

Learn from history at https://jeffrich.substack.com. What will be the global role of India, that is Bharat, after the breakdown of the postwar world order, led by the USA since 1945? To answer this question, we need to reimagine the history of the post-1945 world. We need to take off our American glasses, and obsessions with Western geopolitical news, and look at world history from an unfamiliar perspective. A few weeks ago, I bought some titanium tetrachloride which, I heard is one of the most obnoxious chemicals. When exposed to air, almost immediately, a bunch of white smoke starts pouring out. This is a mixture of hydrochloric acid and titanium oxides, which form as the titanium tetrachloride reacts with the oxygen and moisture in the air. What I've always wanted to do, was try and soak a super ball in it. #shorts

In the past decade, astrophysicists have found a lot of evidence that our large-scale theory for how the universe works has some large-scale problems as well. It has, however, remained controversial whether this is a problem with data collection or whether it is indeed a problem with our understanding of the universe. In a new paper, astrophysicists now demonstrate that something is wrong with the theory indeed. It could be the first good evidence that “Einstein was wrong.” Let’s take a look. Dive into the groundbreaking ideas of William MacDougall, one of psychology's pioneers! In this video, we explore MacDougall's revolutionary theories on social psychology, human nature, and group behavior. Discover how his insights on character and the conduct of life still resonate today in understanding our actions, relationships, and society. Don’t miss these thought-provoking concepts that can change the way you see human behavior! #Psychology #WilliamMacDougall #HumanNature #socialpsychology 0:00 – Introduction & Why McDougall Still Matters Early 20th-century psychologist whose ideas on human nature and group behavior remain surprisingly relevant Key sources: An Introduction to Social Psychology, Character and the Conduct of Life, Outline of Psychology 0:28 – Instincts: The Three-Part Chain McDougall’s definition of instincts (situation → emotion → urge to act) Goes beyond simple reflexes; instincts as complex “blueprints” woven into mind and body Examples: parental instinct, curiosity, self-assertion, gregarious instinct (need for group belonging) 1:02 – Instinct & Intelligence: A Productive Partnership Instinct isn’t the enemy of intelligence—intelligence refines instinctive reactions Examples from nature (e.g., wasps using landmarks, bees returning to hives) Everyday example: resisting a sarcastic remark by using rational thought 1:29 – Emotions: The Engine of Action Emotions as core drivers tied to each instinct (fear, anger, tenderness, etc.) Emotions blend to form secondary emotions (e.g., “reproach” = anger + tender concern) Explains the complexity of human emotional life 2:08 – Character & The Conduct of Life: Sentiments “Sentiments” as enduring emotional dispositions toward objects, ideas, people These form our character, shaped by life experiences and cultural influences Emphasis on self-regard (master sentiment) influencing confidence, risk-taking, or cautious behavior 2:35 – Character Change & Personal Growth McDougall’s belief in our capacity to shape who we become Practical methods: building positive habits, reflecting on actions, choosing constructive role models 3:00 – Group Behavior & the “Group Mind” Groups form something beyond individual sum; a collective consciousness emerges “Group mind” can foster unity, heroism, or lead to mob mentality and destructive behavior Key takeaway: balance between personal responsibility and group identity 3:40 – Navigating Group Dynamics Positive side: shared goals, supportive networks, collaboration Negative side: risk of manipulation, groupthink, or blind conformity McDougall’s advice: maintain critical thinking, question assumptions, uphold individual accountability 4:05 – Sublimation: Mental Alchemy of Instincts Transforming primal urges into socially valuable or creative outlets E.g., channeling aggression into competitive sports or artistic expression Not all sublimations are “good”—can be misused if channeled harmfully 4:32 – Moral Sentiments & Ethical Behavior Positive moral sentiments (love, respect) vs. negative moral sentiments (hate, disgust) These guide our sense of right/wrong and shape how we act individually and in groups Emphasis on continual moral development, rather than rigid, innate “goodness” 4:57 – The Psychology of Laughter McDougall identifies two types: laughter at others’ misfortune vs. “humorous laughter” Humorous laughter as a sign of flexibility and resilience—mentally stepping outside one’s usual framework Cultivating the ability to laugh at ourselves as emotional maturity 5:20 – Final Takeaways & Legacy McDougall’s interdisciplinary approach (psychology, biology, sociology) still resonates Balancing instinct, intelligence, emotion, and social belonging—keys to understanding modern life Encourages active engagement in personal growth, critical thinking, and ethical participation in groups

Did you know that Pokémon Go is more than just a fun game? It’s a CIA-backed tool for data collection, building a hyper-detailed 3D map of the world using your phone! Since its launch in 2016, Niantic—the creators of Pokémon Go—has been collecting real-time data from millions of players worldwide. This data doesn’t just improve gameplay; it feeds into a massive surveillance network funded by a CIA venture firm. It is called Ratio Zero and it is the worlds first operational gear based cvt But before I explain how this piece of mechanical poetry actually works allow me to first explain why a gear based CVT is a big deal. As you probably know CVT stands for continuously variable transmission and from the perspective of fuel efficiency, smoothness and ease of use they are the ultimate transmission. And while I would not choose a CVT transmission for a vehicle that I want to take to a twisty mountain road or to the track where I want to enjoy revving the engine out through the gears, I would gladly choose a CVT for a vehicle that I drive everyday on the highway or in boring stop-and go commuter traffic. A traditional manual or automatic transmission has a set number of gear ratios or speeds For example, a gear ratio of 3.6:1 tells us that for every 3.6 revolution of the engine, the wheels only make one revolution while the torque at the wheels is increased 3.6 times. So the frist gear reduces vehicle but increases torque, this is why it’s used for getting the vehicle moving from a standstill and top climb steep hills. A manual or automatic transmission will usually have anywhere between 4 to 8 such gear ratios which we call speeds. Compared to this a CVT will only have two “gear ratios” or speeds. This is because a cvt does not have gears Instead we have two conical pulleys and a belt or chain running around them. We slide the belt along these pulleys and the different sizes of the pulleys at different parts of the cone simulate an endless number of different gear sizes which means that a CVT has an endless number of ratios in this range between its lowest and highest ratio. So if an automatic or manual is a 6 speed or 7 speed or whatever than a CVT is a million speed transmission or an infinite number of speeds transmission. Ok, if CVTs are so great why aren’t they more popular? Why aren’t they on every car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle? Well, that’s because traditional CVTs, they kinda suck. Their first problem is that although they help the engine be more efficient, they themselves are not very efficient at all and that’s because friction is at the very core of the design of a CVT. If you observe the inner workings you will see that torque is transferred between the pulleys by a belt or a chain. The belt or chain has nothing to grip onto, there are no gear teeth, no notches, no grabbing points, which means that the belt tension or the friction between the belt itself and the smooth surface of the pulley cone are the only thing transferring the torque. Which means that to transfer substantial amounts of torque we need substantial friction and as we know friction leads to efficiency losses, heat and wear. This is why a typical belt or chain CVT in a car is around 80-88% efficient, a more simple scooter CVT is around 70-75% efficient whereas a geared manual transmission is 95-97% efficient in almost all applications. This is why researchers, inventors and many others have been trying to create a transmission that combines the smoothness, ease of use, fuel efficiency and continually variable gear ratios of the CVT with the torque capacity and low friction of a geared transmission. Despite repeated efforts there has been little success, until in 2016 a man named Edyson Pavlicu had a breakthrough idea - to split the rotation and create the world's first geared CVT transmission - Ratio Zero. Prawn Toast Ingredients - 3 garlic cloves, peeled and finely diced - 1 spring onion, finely diced - small piece of ginger, peeled and finely grated - 500 g (1 lb 2 oz) raw prawns (shrimp), peeled and deveined - 1 egg - 1 tbsp (15 ml) light soy sauce - ¼ tsp MSG (or "yumyum" seasoning) - 4 slices of white tin loaf bread - 150 g (5 oz) white sesame seeds - oil for frying - chilli sauce of your choice, for serving Method 1. Add the raw prawns, egg, grated ginger, diced garlic, diced spring onion, soy sauce, and MSG to a food processor. Blitz until you have a homogeneous paste. It should be mostly smooth with no large lumps. 2. Use a cookie cutter to cut out four discs from each slice of bread. Reserve the leftover bread to make breadcrumbs once it goes stale. 3. Spread the white sesame seeds evenly onto a tray. 4. Spread 1 to 1½ tablespoons of the prawn mixture onto one side of each bread disc, ensuring the surface is fully covered. 5. Press the prawn-covered side of the bread firmly into the sesame seeds, coating the mixture thoroughly. 6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or fryer to 180°C (350°F). Carefully fry the bread, prawn side down, for 3–4 minutes, then flip and fry the other side for an additional 2 minutes until golden brown. 7. Remove the toast from the oil and place it on a wire rack to drain any excess oil. 8. Serve immediately while hot, accompanied by your favourite chilli sauce.

The Essence of Tragedy: Exploring Aristotle's Poetics Discover the roots of literary criticism through Aristotle's "Poetics." We'll explore his analysis of tragedy, epic poetry, and the fundamental elements of storytelling that have shaped literature and drama throughout history.

Years ago, a burning vision ignited my journey: to embark on an intense inward journey with music as tool, while, sharing its pristine beauty with both ‘pandits’ and the masses alike! I chose to exit the mainstream music scene, rejecting the limitations imposed by a few individuals, organisations and the music companies! Dependency, I knew, was pain! My heart knew music held deeper truth and potential, as embodied in the timeless compositions of great Mahatmas, born from their intense spiritual Tapas. I yearned to delve deeper into this Highest Essence! YouTube came in as ‘Devata-Swarupa’, allowing me to share my inner visions with the world! Spiritual Gurus offered wisdom and guidance at every stage! The voices of innocence – our children – expressed this vision through their sweet melodies, untainted by the world. Behind the scenes, a small yet mighty team worked tirelessly with grace and dedication. With honeybees’ eagerness, you all gathered to drink in the radiance of this nectar-journey! With humble hearts, we celebrate 3 Million musical family members with 1.35 billion (135 crore) original views! Yet, the true treasure lies in the heart-to-heart connection through Music! Gratitude overflows! Loads of love, Kuldeep M Pai.

The team travelled to the beautiful island of Anglesey, located at the northernmost tip of Wales, where Huw Lewis runs a sheep farm. In the evenings, Huw often spends time searching the internet for art bargains. One night, while browsing eBay, he stumbled upon a small, unattributed oil sketch depicting Jesus and the apostles at the Last Supper. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, wasn’t just a random act of violence—it was part of a larger, coordinated plot to destabilize the U.S. government. Led by John Wilkes Booth, a well-known actor and Confederate sympathizer, the conspiracy aimed to decapitate the nation’s leadership in the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War. Booth, along with his group of conspirators, planned to assassinate not only President Lincoln but also Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William Seward, hoping to throw the country into chaos. While Booth succeeded in killing Lincoln, the broader conspiracy failed to achieve its devastating goal. #LincolnAssassination #HistoryUncovered #AmericanHistory #ConspiracyTheories #1865 #JohnWilkesBooth #PresidentialHistory #HistoricalEvents #Lincoln #TragicMoments #ProvenConspiracies
