Het Amerikaanse linedancing is overgewaaid naar Amsterdam. De Texaanse Riley McGann geeft sinds een jaar les en die is iedere editie weer uitverkocht. Uit het hele land zijn fanatieke linedancers afgereisd naar Boom Chicago om zaterdagochtend een les van Riley McGann te volgen. De reden? "Als je de muziek hoort, wil je gelijk bewegen", zegt een van de deelnemers. Countrymuziek McGann begon een jaar geleden met het organiseren van haar evenementen, nadat ze tijdens een familiebezoek in Texas zag hoe populair linedancing daar was geworden. "Ik was zo jaloers." Linedancing komt oorspronkelijk uit Amerika en wordt traditioneel op countrymuziek gedanst. Maar McGann geeft er wel een moderne draai aan. "Wij doen niet het linedancing zoals je het kent van je oma. Jonge mensen zien dat het ook op andere muziek kan, of met intensievere pasjes." En dat slaat aan. Naast de lessen van McGann worden er nu ook al andere avonden georganiseerd in de stad. "Country was altijd not done", zegt een deelnemer uit Leeuwarden.
