The incident led to a completely revamped set of procedures to be followed during high-risk and felony stops, with emphasis at every step on officer safety. De in totaal zeventienhonderd kunstwerken die Amsterdam telt, zijn bepalend voor het straatbeeld. Een kunstsoort waar we echter regelmatig letterlijk aan voorbijgaan, is de rotondekunst. Vandaag gaat AT5 langs op de rotonde Seineweg/Basisweg in Sloterdijk, waar sinds kort het kunstwerk All Aboard van Hans van Bentem staat. Van Bentem deed mee aan een prijsvraag van de gemeente, en kreeg de opdracht. "Ik had meteen een soort inspiratie en zag het voor me", vertelt hij. "De werktitel was eigenlijk 'narrenschip', geïnspireerd op een middeleeuws verhaal. Daarbij staat een schip zonder kapitein, zonder sturing, symbool. Het is een metafoor voor een maatschappij op hol, een maatschappij zonder sturing. Dat vond ik wel passend in deze tijd." Volgens kunstenaar Van Bentem is het verhaal achter zijn kunstwerk duidelijk. "Het is een beeld dat je in één oogopslag kan pakken. Een schip vol met shit, op de klippen gelopen. Zo duidelijk is het." Uit het schip steken ook nog lichtsperen. "Dat licht wordt nog aangesloten, er komen nog spots op. ''s Avonds heeft het dus weer een heel ander uiterlijk." Ook omstanders zijn te spreken over het schip dat midden op de rotonde staat. "Ik vind het erg uniek, en ik denk dat het goed bij de omgeving past", vertelt een man. "Voorheen was hier namelijk niks." Een andere voorbijganger sluit zich daarbij aan: "Ik vind het wel een toevoeging aan het gebied, want het was een beetje kaal hier." Ook een derde voorbijganger is enthousiast. Alvarez's parents were part of the Communist Workers' Party, and Alvarez is named in honor of two of their slain comrades. Peter Faber is donderdag overleden. De acteur, die opgroeide in Noord, was bekend van films als Max Havelaar en Soldaat van Oranje. Faber werd 82 jaar oud. Faber werd begin juli opgenomen in het ziekenhuis met benauwdheidsproblemen. Het bleek te gaan om hartproblemen, die niet meer verholpen konden worden. Hij bleef, ook op latere leeftijd, nog lang actief als acteur. Hij speelde zijn laatste rol in 2023, samen met zijn zoon in de film Sweet Dreams. Naast zijn werk als acteur, zette Faber zich in voor jongeren uit Noord. Hij richtte in 2008 zijn eigen stichting, De Peter Faber Stichting, op. Daarmee gaf hij onder andere lessen om meer zelfvertrouwen te krijgen, iets wat hij, naar eigen zeggen, gemist had in zijn eigen jeugd. In 2015 was Faber te gast bij het AT5-programma Amsterdam Proeft, en vertelde hij daar meer over. Faber had vijf kinderen, bij vier verschillende vrouwen. In totaal trouwde hij vijf keer, en scheidde even vaak. Zijn laatste huwelijk werd voltrokken door toenmalig burgemeester Eberhard van der Laan, en vond plaats in café 't Mandje. In 2013 ging AT5 met Faber naar datzelfde café voor het programma In de Stad, een deel van de opbrengsten van een biertje gingen namelijk naar Fabers stichting. Over zijn huwelijken zei hij toen: "Als iemand ja tegen mij zegt, krijg je mijn volledige ja terug." Blanche, whose confirmation for attorney general is currently before the Senate, made the remarks in a private call with anti-abortion activists that was later posted online. According to the audio recording, Blanche said the Trump administration is pursuing policies "so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state," referring to the 2022 Supreme Court ruling that ended the constitutional right to abortion and left the matter to individual states. Amy Littlefield, The Nation's abortion access correspondent, says the administration is likely to focus on limiting abortion pills delivered by mail, perhaps by invoking the 1873 Comstock Act, which banned the mailing of "lewd" and "indecent" materials through the mail. Littlefield calls it a "zombie law from the Victorian era" that reflects the frustration of the anti-abortion movement's inability to reduce abortions despite victories at the Supreme Court. "Abortion bans do not stop abortion. What they do is they kill and harm the people who need them," she says. Een jaar geleden werd de 17-jarige Rivaldo in Holendrecht doodgeschoten, nadat hij opkwam voor een vriend wiens ketting was gestolen. Zijn dood laat nog steeds grote wonden achter in Zuidoost. Randell Thorpe is jongerenwerker en kende Rivaldo uit de buurt: "Het was een gouden gozer. We kunnen het nog steeds niet bevatten." We spreken met jongerenwerker Randell Thorpe af op het voetbalveldje aan de Meernhof in Zuidoost, waar het vorig jaar gruwelijk misging. Randell vertelt dat hij het afgelopen jaar hier liever niet kwam. "Het is dat ik er voor werk langs moet en mijn zoontje hier soms wil voetballen, maar het idee blijft niet fijn om hier te komen." De avond van Rivaldo's dood begon met een ruzie om een gestolen ketting. Hij kwam op voor zijn vriend waarvan de ketting was gestolen, en werd later in zijn buik geschoten. Een paar uur later overleed hij op de operatietafel. De destijds 16-jarige schutter kreeg twee maanden geleden de maximale straf uit het jeugdrecht opgelegd: twee jaar jeugddetente en jeugd-tbs.  Gouden gozer Randell kende Rivaldo uit de buurt en omschrijft hem als een gouden gozer. "Hij was heel geliefd bij zijn school, op zijn stage en in de buurt. Het maakt het nog onwerkelijker. Niet dat iemand het ooit verdient, maar als iemand het niet verdient, is hij het."  Hoewel Randell sinds de dood van Rivaldo ook meer verbroedering merkt in de wijk, ziet hij ook dat het de buurt heeft veranderd. Bij ouders, die zich steeds vaker zorgen maken als hun kind later thuiskomt. Maar ook bij jongeren zelf. "Jongeren voelen zich misschien nog wel onveiliger. Ik ken de cijfers niet, maar ik weet dat er veel wapens in omloop zijn. Niet per se om te gebruiken, maar voor het idee dat het ooit nodig zou zijn.
