CREDs are behaviors that people use to demonstrate their genuine commitment to a belief, value, or principle. These displays make the beliefs seem more credible and trustworthy to others, thereby enhancing the likelihood that observers will adopt similar beliefs or practices. Basically, if your co-religionists are not "practicing what they preach," there is a higher likelihood a theist will become an atheist. Bulgaria’s parliament has recently passed a controversial bill banning #LGBTQ+ propaganda in schools. Introduced by a far-right party, the amendment has been compared to the “anti-gay” laws in Russia and Hungary introduced in recent years. In the #EU, Bulgaria has consistently ranked as one of the worst countries for respect towards rights of the #queer community. In this video, we asked – what do Bulgarians think about this new bill? How does it affect teachers and students? And could it strain relations between Bulgaria and the European Union? This is our series “ENTR Context” – we give you context from Europe. This is the story of a very unassuming Sumerian brick. Sure, it bears the names of mighty gods, powerful kings and contains 'the most powerful statement written anywhere in the world', but it's also quite a common brick to come across (if you're digging at Tello, Iraq). In fact, just how easy it is to find one of these bricks is exactly what makes this specific one so unique. Because this one specific example of the 'Gudea foundation brick' has been excavated and then re-excavated by archaeologists on 3 separate occasions: the third time was in 2016, the second in the 1880s, and it was originally excavated around 323 BC (that's 2,300-years-ago). Join Sébastien Rey, curator of ancient Mesopotamia as he walks you through the discovery of the Sumerian civilization in the 1880s and how it took archaeologists another 100 years of excavating to realise that they had been excavating through the work of a previous archaeologist. The archaeologist? Adad-nadin-akhe. His commissioner? Alexander the Great. CONTENT WARNING: We will find French undies in an ancient Sumerian city. Or should it be we found? After editing this video I'm not exactly sure I can think in linear time anymore. Heavily features the archaeology of archaeology. Linear time will mean nothing. You will eat your own tail. Eric Weinstein on how science should proceed - with spacetime as our map, not as the territory. Do you agree with his perspective? Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/the-matrix-myths-and-metaphysics?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description Not so long ago philosophers and scientists were deeply critical of overall metaphysical accounts of the world, arguing that they were empty nonsense and should be consigned to the dustbin. 'Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe on instinct', concluded the author Somerset Maugham. But metaphysics is back. Idealism, possible worlds, panpsychism all have their adherents. 'We are living in a simulation', Matrix followers, like Elon Musk, intone. But is this a fundamental error that we once had recognised and have now forgotten, that trades evidence and reality for fiction and fantasy? Should we recognise all overall metaphysical accounts as speculative nonsense? Since there can be no empirical evidence for any of them, is contemporary science the only way to determine the nature of things? Or might metaphysics be not only necessary but unavoidable? #spacetime #metaphysics #science Eric Weinstein is the host of the premiere podcast The Portal. A doctor of mathematical physics, Eric has proposed that the scientific consensus in physics is broken and radical change in the community is needed. Becky Parker is a renowned physicist who won the first RAS Patrick Moore Medal for outstanding work as a teacher of astronomy. She has received an Honorary Fellowship at the Institute of Physics. Hilary Lawson is a philosopher and an outspoken critic of philosophical realism. He is best known for his theory of Closure, which puts forward a non-realist metaphysics. He is the founder and editorial director of the IAI. The Institute of Art and Ideas features videos and articles from cutting edge thinkers discussing the ideas that are shaping the world, from metaphysics to string theory, technology to democracy, aesthetics to genetics. A team of experts investigates the mysterious death of a man whose partial skeleton, dating back 800 years, was discovered during an excavation in Scotland. Forensic analysis reveals that the victim, a young and robust male, was likely killed by a professional using a dagger, with multiple stab wounds indicating a surprise attack. The victim's shoulder condition suggests he may have been an archer, a profession associated with repetitive strain on the shoulder. Welcome to Chronicle; your home for all things medieval history! Scientists just figured out something NEW about tardigrades (my favorite animal) and it might help humans survive intense radiation. Here’s what’s going on... Tardigrades are microscopic and totally awesome. They can survive crushing pressures, deep freezes, and decades without food or water. They can also survive insane amounts of radiation, which has confounded scientists, but now, they think they know how this tiny animal is doing it... and how that insight might apply to you and me. I just love these creatures. Maybe my favorite science story ever is how tardigrades ended up on the moon… but that’s a story for another day, so subscribe for more! This video is part of Huge If True, our optimistic series about science and technology. #shorts #tardigrades #animation #sciencefacts

Smoked Chicken Sandwich Ingredients: - 6 chicken thighs - salt - coarsely ground black pepper - 200ml (7 oz) BBQ sauce (recipe available on my website) - 1/2 papaya, sliced into thin strips - 1/4 green cabbage, thinly sliced - 1/2 white onion, thinly sliced - 4 radishes, sliced into matchsticks - small bunch of parsley, finely chopped - 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar - 6 soft burger buns (such as potato buns) - butter Method: 1. Preheat your smoker to 110°C (230°F). 2. Season the chicken thighs on both sides with salt and pepper, then place them in the smoker. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 65°C (149°F). 3. Increase the smoker’s temperature to 150°C (302°F) and warm the BBQ sauce in a pot. 4. Continue cooking the chicken until the internal temperature reaches 70°C (158°F). Then, brush the thighs generously with BBQ sauce and cook until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 20 minutes. 5. Remove the chicken from the smoker and let it rest for 10 minutes. 6. To make the slaw, mix the papaya, cabbage, onion, radish, parsley, and apple cider vinegar in a bowl with a pinch of salt. 7. Butter your burger buns and toast them until golden. 8. To assemble the sandwiches, remove the bones from the chicken thighs and slice the meat. Place the sliced chicken on the bottom half of a bun, followed by a generous helping of slaw. Top with the other half of the bun, and you’re good to go! #cooking #recipe #bbq #food #chicken #smoker

Greeks are the most stressed people in the EU. And no other country has longer working weeks than #Greece. Starting in July this year, Greece introduced not the four day week, but the six day week. These facts seem absurd, but what’s the common cause behind them? And how are young Greeks coping with it all? We met Kris, in Thessaloniki. She told us how she had worked herself to the bone aged just 24, what the debt crisis 15 years ago has to do with everything, and what consequences it has on young Greeks today.
