Despite dominating the instant photography market it had created for more than five decades, in 2001 the Polaroid Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and within a few years ceased to exist. Polaroid’s final decades were marked by a slow decline, with the company releasing a line of increasingly cheap products in a desperate attempt to raise its profit margins. Should we see AI as opening up an era of ground-breaking innovation, or does it foreshadow the loss of vital human attributes and independence? AI safety researcher Eliezer Yudkowsky battles cognitive scientist Joscha Bach in this excerpt pulled from our recent debate, 'AI and the end of humanity'. This debate took place during July's IAI Live - our monthly online event hosting the world's biggest speakers as they confront the most pressing topics. The next IAI Live is on Monday the 5th of August. Get your tickets now! https://iai.tv/live?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=head-to-head Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/ai-and-the-end-of-humanity?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=head-to-head From sophisticated robots to the development of new drugs, artificial Intelligence is shaping our future in many sectors. Once we thought the creation of original text and forms of art were the select preserve of human beings. But the exponential development of AI is challenging these assumptions. An increasing number claim that AI threatens the very idea of what it is to be human. A recent survey of more than 900 technology pioneers and policy leaders predicted AI would threaten human autonomy and agency, with over a third saying we would be worse off in the future. Confirmed, they argue, by Musk's proposal that we should link our brains directly to machines. Does AI fundamentally challenge what it means to be human? Or is all the talk of its radical importance a sign that we have been taken in by the marketing hype of an enormously profitable industry, and humans not only remain very much in control but will continue to do so? #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #WillAIEndHumanity Eliezer Yudkowsky is a leading AI safety researcher, renowned for popularizing the concept of friendly AI. Joscha Bach is a cognitive scientist who is pushing the limits of what we can achieve with Artificial Intelligence. The Institute of Art and Ideas features videos and articles from cutting edge thinkers discussing the ideas that are shaping the world, from metaphysics to string theory, technology to democracy, aesthetics to genetics. When is sports gear so good it’s actually cheating? Subscribe for more optimistic science and tech stories! There is a ton of cool sports gear that’s banned from sports for making athletes too good. Swimsuits that make a swimmer too streamlined, gloves that make a receiver’s hands too grippy, bats that let a player hit the ball too hard, and shoes that help a runner go too freaking fast… They call it “TECH DOPING,” using physical gear to gain an unfair advantage. In this video, I’ll show you the banned gear you won’t see at the Paris Olympics, and the cutting edge tech you will see that’s on the very limit of what’s allowed. You might be thinking, hold on, no gear should give athletes an advantage! But… we don’t run barefoot anymore. We don’t swim naked. We use tech to play sports. And that tech is always improving, pushing forward what humans can do. So… where’s the line? This is about way more than sports. In every part of our lives, technology pushes forward what we can do! And it’s up to us to decide what we want from it. This video is about that question. We talked to athletes, looked at the world’s best gear, and even went all the way to Nike’s test lab to try on the real Team USA Olympic uniforms. This is the cutting edge of sports tech, explained. Amazon also sell it https://amzn.to/3WDRf22 (AFFILIATED LINK) This video features some music kindly provided by Andre Louis - his work can be found at https://onj.me CORRECTION - According to Daniel in the comments the FM radio can be controlled like this without the remote… You can't manually tune the stations without the remote, but if you set the input to radio and then press the square STOP button on the boombox (which you'll notice is also "AUTO" on the remote) the radio presets will automatically be filled with all available radio stations (up to 30). Then just press forward and back to flip through them. You can also change the "scan settings" to "Strong Stations Only" for this mode where it will only fill the presets with stations it is picking up clearly. A Blackgates Sweet Pea Locomotive Build - Part #19. Experimenting with the Steam Piping to the cylinders. I think that some modification is in order to improve the steam connections from the Smokebox as the current arrangement looks bad and it is very clumsy and over scale. https://www.patreon.com/keithappleton IF YOU ENJOY WATCHING THESE DETAILED TUTORIAL VIDEOS THAT I PRODUCE TO HELP BEGINNERS TO THE HOBBY, THEN PLEASE BECOME A PATRON OF MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL VIA "PATREON" AND ALLOW ME THE TIME TO MAKE EVEN MORE OF THESE SPECIALIST AND HIGHLY DETAILED TUTORIAL VIDEOS. https://go.classicalguitarshed.com/4ah3kAH Free guitar book: 30 Fun and Easy(ish) Pieces for Classical Guitar. Get the PDF and enjoy some new music! Over 150,000 other guitarists have downloaded and use CGS guitar books. Get yours free here: https://go.classicalguitarshed.com/4uwFbOF https://go.classicalguitarshed.com/4dLma3T Click this link to learn more about our full course for classical guitar. It's organized, structured, and strategic from the beginning, so you make the most of your time and avoid injury and frustration. Build your basics, fill the gaps, and rise to more advanced levels of playing. Are you learning classical guitar or would like to learn classical guitar? ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://go.classicalguitarshed.com/4dLma3T If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/
