Once again a train has a group of bachelors or #football fans who have had too much to drink. Some don’t mind, but for others it’s a problem. In fact, it isn’t uncommon for drunk passengers to damage the trains, or to cause arguments. Hamburg’s main train station, Deutsche Bahn has introduced a ban on alcohol to ensure greater safety. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe. The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. The Turing test used to be the key benchmark for artificial intelligence. The idea, going back to Alan Turing, was that a human interrogator would have a chat with a respondent, and the human needs to figure out whether the respondent is either human, or an AI. GPT has now officially passed that test. Would you be able to tell it apart from a human? Scientists have long studied the Ten Plagues of the Old Testament, with many believing that nine of these plagues indicate a severe climate breakdown, triggering an ecological chain reaction. Scholars worldwide have analyzed these phenomena, concluding that nature’s fury must have been catastrophic. Ancient papyri and Old Testament accounts document this disaster, which devastated Egypt’s economy and left a deep mark on its people’s memory. The stories of the plagues were well-known to the authors of the Old Testament due to the close historical contact between Canaan and Egypt. https://youtu.be/uOuA3Neglb0 -- Welcome to the official Get.factual youtube channel! 🌍 We are a documentary streaming channel covering history, science, technology, and nature. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: https://oxford-union.org/supportus

Making a very unusual picture frame that not only holds the art but becomes part of it. Brought to us by Squarespace. For 10% off your first purchase, go to: http://squarespace.com/makesomething Creating art from a locally grown slab of hickory and walnut. This project is deeply personal, using wood milled by a late family friend, and is a perfect example of how art can make us better woodworkers. In this video, I experiment with bending thin strips of wood to create an unusual picture frame that not only holds the art but becomes part of it. I’ll share my process, from rough sketches to Adobe Illustrator and Fusion 360 designs, and tackle challenges like reinforcing curved joints and creating a dome shape on a walnut centerpiece. Throughout the video, I highlight techniques such as using a vacuum bag for clamping, reinforcing joints with epoxy and plywood discs, and finishing touches that make the wood stand out. I aim to inspire you, whether or not you replicate the project, by showcasing how pushing the boundaries of woodworking can lead to unexpected and beautiful results. First the European elections and now the new elections - there’s a lot going on in #France. And the Olympic Games are starting at the end of July. Sounds like a situation that can be overwhelming. We wanted to know how young people are feeling just before the parliamentary elections. ℹ In France, the victory of the right-wing populist „Rassemblement National“ (RN) in the European elections has led to new elections coming right up: A new parliament will be elected in two rounds of voting on June 30 and July 7. #Macron will remain president, but if the majorities in parliament shift, it will become more difficult for him to govern.
