Natalia Vorontsova talks to Dr Tom Cheetham about active imagination, consciousness and life-changing experiences in the context of the philosophy and theology of Henry Corbin, Ibn Arabi and Surhawardi. Tom offers a unique perspective on post-materialist science, having come full circle from scientific materialism through Jungian psychology and Sufi mysticism to the realization that science is not an obstacle to accessing the transcendent. It's a thought-provoking conversation about the nature of reality and what it means to be human. You can find out more about Tom's work at https://www.tomcheetham.com/ 00:00 Intro: Accessing reality through imagination. 03:58 Corbin saved my soul! Sauerkraut Ingredients - 1 head green cabbage - cooking salt (kosher) - 1 tbsp caraway seeds Method 1. Cut the cabbage in half, remove the core, then slice thinly. 2. Weigh the cabbage, then weigh 20g of salt for every 1kg of cabbage. 3. Working in batches, sprinkle the salt evenly over the cabbage and then massage it in well. Let it rest for 30 minutes. 4. Next, add the caraway seeds and mix well. 5. Pack the cabbage mixture into a glass or ceramic jar and cover it. Leave it in a cool, dark spot to ferment for 3 weeks, making sure you let any gas out daily to avoid an explosion. 6. After 3 weeks, it's ready to eat. At that point, store it in the fridge and enjoy!

In 15 BC, Roman troops encountered deserted Celtic settlements in Central Europe, signalling a strategic retreat by the Celts. Once prosperous traders along the Amber Road, the Celts turned to warfare around 450 BC due to climate change. In 390 BC, they famously captured Rome under Brenis at the Battle of Allia. By the mid-3rd century BC, they established centralized settlements for trade and production. However, increasing threats from Germanic tribes and Romans led to the decline of their distinct culture by the first century BC. Welcome to Chronicle; your home for all things medieval history! Banksy changed the modern art world, taking it from galleries and onto the street. His identity has always been hidden from the public; keeping this secret was key to avoiding any criminal charges. He started as a freehand graffiti artist in Bristol but turned to the art of stencilling after realising how much quicker it was to complete work. Banksy developed a distinctive iconography of highly recognisable images, such as rats and police officers, that communicated his anti-authoritarian message. As his art spread, so did his popularity. He made headlines for his Kissing Coppers, painted the West Bank Wall and walked into galleries and hung his own work. Banksy is one of the best-known artists of the 21st Century, yet, does anybody know who he really is? Can we trust morality as a guiding force? Philosophers Hilary Lawson and Kathleen Stock lock horns over the good and the bad. Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/being-good-and-being-bad?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=head-to-head We all want to be good or be seen to be good. But from the Christian Crusaders of medieval times to the twin tower terrorists of today, from the leaders of both sides in WW1 to Putin and his invasion of Ukraine, those who carry out acts of terrible violence are often motivated by the belief that they are acting on ultimate principles and right is on their side. Might therefore the most dangerous strategy be the belief that we are acting for the good? Is this not the defence used to support actions however self-interested, unjust, and cruel? #Morality #Danger #Philosophy Kathleen Stock is a philosopher famous for her gender-critical views. She is a founding faculty fellow at the University of Austin. Hilary Lawson is a philosopher and long standing critic of realism, best known for his theory of closure. For DeleteMe international Plans go to https://international.joindeleteme.com Every year, people around the world lose millions of dollars to a sophisticated scam known as “the pig butchering romance scam”. The scam takes its name from the victims, who the scammers call “pigs” that they "fatten up" before slaughter. It usually begins with a text message that appears to be a wrong number. People who respond are lured into a long conversation with a good-looking and wealthy stranger who eventually offers to teach them how to make money with crypto investments. The investments are (of course) fake, and once victims send enough of their money, the scammers disappear. Victims frequently lose their life savings, and often the crime goes unreported because the victim is so embarrassed by what happened. A Kansas banker embezzled almost $50 million dollars from his bank as part of a pig-butchering scam, leading to the bank's failure. In the bestselling book - Number Go Up by Zeke Faux, it was revealed that the people sending the messages are frequently victims themselves. In today's video we explore how the scam works and why cryptocurrencies like tether are to blame for the huge scale of this crime. At the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, thousands of scientists are spending billions of dollars to smash protons together in a big underground tunnel. But… WHY? When protons collide, we get a glimpse at what might have happened close to the start of our universe. That's because these collisions release an enormous amount of energy for how small protons are. But we know that energy and mass are related - so when these protons collide at incredibly fast speeds, that energy can turn into physical mass. Which is crazy! And even crazier: If the energy is high enough, it can turn into mysterious or unknown particles... Scientists do this to try to understand some of the biggest questions, like “what is the universe made of?”, “where did it come from?” and “how did we get here?”. If you want to learn more, check out our longer episode AT CERN! And if you like optimistic science and tech videos, subscribe for more of our show Huge If True. #shorts #science #tech #stem #animation #cern #physics

ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=Intermediate_to_Advanced_How_to_Progress&utm_content=2xXWjkyaaoU If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

General David Petraeus, former director of the CIA, delves into a wide range of past and present global conflicts; from Iraq and Afghanistan, where he led the US forces, to Ukraine, Gaza, and the future of US-China relations. David H. Petraeus is the Kissinger Fellow at Yale’s Jackson School of Global Affairs, the Chair of the Global Institute of a major investment firm, and a former director of the CIA. Petraeus served over 37 years in the U.S. military, culminating his career with six consecutive commands as a general officer, five of which were in combat, including command of the Surge in Iraq, command of U.S. Central Command, and command of coalition forces in Afghanistan. In this wide-ranging interview, he argues that the lessons America learned in Iraq are not being fully taken up by Israel, that there is no alternative to providing aid to Ukraine, and sometimes wars involve unpalatable choices. Famously, Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Less famously, Michelangelo hated the Sistine Chapel ceiling – or at least the process of painting it. And we’re fairly certain that at the end of the 4-year process he swore he’d never do anything like it again. But while he was a hugely successful artist, Michelangelo was a much less successful… not artist i.e. he was very bad at turning down work he didn’t want to do. Especially when he was asked to do it by the Pope. So, 25 years after completing the ceiling, Michelangelo returned to paint the Sistine Chapel. This time, one of its walls. And while you might think that’s easier, the wall is huge, he was now 61-years-old, and also at some point he fell off the scaffolding. Join curator Grant Lewis as he takes you through Michelangelo’s process of conceptualizing, planning and painting the Sistine chapel - both the Creation of Adam and the Last Judgement. You'll get to spend time with Michelangelo's initial sketches and cartoons, right through to the final paintings. And if by the end of it you want to spend even more time with the great master's work, our exhibition all about Michelangelo is open until the end of July 2024.
