It’s been a while since we posted Season 8 of Curator’s Corner, and in that time you guys have asked a lot of questions. An awful lot in fact! So, we thought we’d try something new. We’ve invited some curators back to get you the answers you have been hankering after. It’s a kind of curator’s Q and A, and a Season 8 wrap up all in one. Season 8 was pretty special because we got to travel to Japan, Iraq, Leicester and Highgate cemetery. And with almost all the films you wanted to know more. So… 00:36 Curator of Horology Oliver Cooke answers your clock questions, including something many of you were desperate to know. What watch does a curator of horology wear? 06:00 The BM’s Curator of Renaissance Europe, Rachel King’s video about how to date a very bling Tudor pendant linked to Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, garnered a lot of questions. Not least, where was it found? 09:40 Although we couldn’t go back to Japan to ask woodblock artist Dave Bull your questions in person, he was flattered by the fact that quite a few of you thought he looked like Luke Skywalker. 12:56 That unique and amazing iron age shield made of tree bark, the Enderby Shield, really piqued your interest. Many of you couldn’t believe a relatively small bark shield would provide any protection in a battle at all. So we had to see what curator Sophia Adams had to say about that. 24:28 And curator Henry Flynn’s tour of Highgate Cemetery got a lot of you wondering how he even found some of those graves, given how hidden away they were? Let us know if you like this wrap-up/Q & A, and if you have more burning questions we can do this again at the end of Season 9. Most astrophysics are pretty convinced that 80% of the matter in the universe is some invisible stuff that they can’t detect - dark matter. The idea has become more popular recently modified gravity ran into trouble by making a wrong prediction about wide binaries. Early experiences with geometric patterns and design principles laid the groundwork for an incredible career, challenging the notion that his skills were merely innate rather than cultivated through experiences and serendipitous opportunities. This video traces the career of Frank Lloyd Wright in an attempt to dispel the traditional narrative that he was simply a singular genius. Rather, his ability to leverage economic and social shifts, especially in architectural practices, set him apart and propelled him into the cultural figure we know today. __Membership__ Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYAm24PkejQR2xMgJgn7xwg/join __About the Channel__ Architecture with Stewart is a YouTube journey exploring architecture’s deep and enduring stories in all their bewildering glory. The world’s most astonishing science experiment, simply explained. Subscribe for more optimistic science and tech stories! On the border between France and Switzerland is the biggest science experiment humanity has ever built. Over a 100 meters underground, there’s a tunnel 27 kilometers long in a big loop under nearby homes, businesses, and farms. Inside that tunnel, scientists built a blue tube big enough to crawl through, and inside that tube, they put two pipes that they keep colder and emptier than outer space. Down those pipes, they fire particles smaller than atoms in opposite directions…. and push them faster and faster… until when they’re almost at the speed of light… they SMASH TOGETHER. This underground particle-smasher is also known as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. It took thousands of scientists from over nearly 100 different countries $5 billion dollars and 30 years to plan and build. My question is: Why? Why did they do that??? Why spend so much money and time to smash particles underground? And now… why do so many scientists say what we really need to do is build… a BIGGER one? To answer those questions, we’re going on a journey all the way to Switzerland, to the particle smasher itself! And you’re never going to see yourself or the world around you the same way… Chapters: 0:00 What’s happening at CERN? 1:31 What is the Large Hadron Collider? 2:32 How did they build the Large Hadron Collider? 3:43 How small is a proton? 4:51 How do they get protons to hit each other?? 6:43 Why build this? 7:43 What happens when particles smash together? 8:47 What are elementary particles? 9:37 What is the Higgs Boson? 10:46 What did they find?? 11:33 Why does this matter? 12:52 Why build a bigger collider? 13:48 What is the Future Circular Collider? 14:56 What else could we build? 15:56 Who do we want to be? My Oma was a great cook and she always made us the best Dutch treats for us when we were visiting the farm. Here’s a recipe for Appelbeignets #Kitchenaid #madewithkitchenaid #mothersday #familyrecipes Appelbeignets Ingredients: - 500ml milk, warm - 15g brown sugar - 10g instant yeast - 450g plain flour (all-purpose flour) - 2 egg yolks - 30g unsalted butter, melted - 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1cm thick - 200g caster sugar - 20g cinnamon - oil for frying (peanut oil recommended) Method: 1. Start by adding the brown sugar and yeast to the warm milk, stirring until dissolved. In the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the flour and the 2 egg yolks. Turn the mixer to a medium speed and gradually pour in the yeast milk mixture until the batter becomes smooth. Add the melted butter and mix for another 20-30 seconds. Scrape down the sides, then cover the bowl with cling film and leave to prove for 45 minutes. 2. While the batter is proving, prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them. Mix the caster sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl. Dust all the apple slices in the cinnamon sugar mixture and set aside. 3. Preheat the oil to 180°C. Dip the sugared apple slices into the batter, ensuring they are well coated. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove the appelbeignets from the oil and place them onto a wire rack. Dust with icing sugar before serving.

De Verenigde Staten produceren en exporteren het meeste vlees ter wereld. Amerikanen eten gemiddeld zo’n 120 kilo vlees per persoon per jaar. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe. The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. The long repression of pro-Palestinian voices in Germany reached a peak last Friday. German police shut down the Palestine Congress, a vital event to unite activists around a ceasefire for Gaza. They detained participants, including Jewish activists; they deported a Palestinian speaker. And then they banned our own Yanis Varoufakis, not only from making political speeches in Germany, but also from doing so over Zoom (!). These authoritarian moves make it clear: Germany is intent on silencing anyone who speaks out against its complicity in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. So for our livestream this week, Yanis Varoufakis and colleagues who attended the Palestine Congress will be dissecting this brazen act of state repression against Palestinian solidarity. What lessons can we draw? How has the reaction been? And what could all this mean for the future of free speech and pro-Palestine activism in Germany, and around the world? Join us live and have your say! According to Bloomberg, Saudi Arabia’s government has “scaled back its medium-term ambitions” for Neom, of which The Line is the most significant sub-project. The Saudi government had hoped to have 9 million residents living in "The Line" by 2030, but this has been scaled back to fewer than 300,000, according to the new report. Arlie Hochschild, Angus Deaton and Rory Sutherland debate whether the current state of the post-industrial West really looks like progress. But is there a danger that economic pessimism discourages workers from making demands? Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/the-tears-of-the-west?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description Once we believed in progress, and saw ourselves at the leading edge of culture and life as improving. Now we are more likely to see the negatives in both in society and in our future. 75% of millennials think they will be worse off than their parents. But some argue there is a risk this outlook is not only mistaken but bad for our health and society. The Swedish statistician Hans Rosling argued that we are systematically far more negative about ourselves and the world than is justified by the data. Despite a much higher standard of living we are more pessimistic than those in China, India, Russia and Brazil. Furthermore a recent study of 160,000 people showed pessimism negatively effects health with the most optimistic living 11-15% longer than the most pessimistic. Have we lost faith in our culture and is our self-criticism at risk of becoming self-fulfilling? Do we need to identify and celebrate our strengths and our successes to build a brighter more positive future? Or should we see our self-criticism as rightly identifying injustice that urgently needs to be addressed? #west #globalisation #postindustrial Columnist at the Spectator and Marketing Executive at Ogilvy & Mather Rory Sutherland joins Nobel Prize winning economist Angus Deaton and Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of California Berkeley Arlie Hochschild. Known as one of the poorest countries in Europe, Moldova may soon join the European Union. In December of 2023, Brussels opened accession negotiations with Moldova, at the same time as Ukraine. Codrina and Adrian, just like many young Moldovans, have been waiting for this for a long time. But they know that their country still has some way to go before finally leaving its Soviet past behind.

Egg Hoppers with Coconut Sambol Ingredients: - 1 cup basmati rice - 7g yeast - 12g sugar - 200ml coconut milk - 1 tsp salt - 8 eggs - 1/2 coconut, grated - 1 shallot, sliced - 2 small green chillies, sliced - 2 cloves garlic, sliced - 0.5 tsp salt - 0.5 tsp black pepper - 1 tsp chilli flakes - juice of 1 lime Method: 1. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water, then cover with cold water and leave to soak overnight in the fridge. The next day, drain any excess water and transfer the rice to a food blender. Add 300ml water and blend on high for 6-7 minutes until you have a smooth rice milk. Add the yeast and sugar, stir well, then pour into a bowl and cover with a tea towel. 2. Leave the rice milk mixture at room temperature to ferment for 1.5-2 hours, or until it starts becoming bubbly. 3. In a mortar and pestle, add the garlic and chillies and pound until smooth. Add salt, pepper, and chilli flakes and pound again. Mix in the grated coconut and lime juice; set aside until needed. 4. Once the rice milk has fermented, stir in the coconut milk and a big pinch of salt. Heat a hopper pan over medium heat and add a small drizzle of oil, swirling to coat the sides. Pour a spoonful of the batter into the pan, tilting to cover all sides. Crack an egg into the centre and cover with the lid. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the hopper is golden and crispy on the edges, and the egg is cooked through. 5. Serve the hopper hot with a generous amount of coconut sambol on the side. #srilanka #cooking #food #recipe #eggs #hoppers #foodlover #streetfood #viral

You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. A while later I moved on and tried to make a bike with two omni-wheels. As soon as I’d assembled that version I realised it would have been better to have made Mecanum wheels, which have the little wheels slanted all around them. These are typically used on the four corners of a robot so it can move in any direction, but I want to put them all in a line, so the bike still balances sideways, but can screw itself along.
