De droneshow waarbij de omtrek van de Twin Towers zichtbaar maakte in de skyline van Manhattan, werd gemaakt door het Amsterdamse kunstenaarscollectief Studio Drift. Oprichter Ralph Nauta werkte er twee jaar aan. Veruit de meeste tijd stak hij in het regelen van de juiste vergunningen: "Iets in New York laten vliegen is extreem moeilijk." Misschien heb je de beelden al voorbij zien komen. Die van het kunstwerk van 2977 lichtgevende drones, die bij elkaar de omtrek van de Twin Towers vormden. Precies op de plek waar de twee kolossale gebouwen ooit stonden, voordat ze bij de aanslagen van 9/11 door twee vliegtuigen doorboord werden. Het aantal drones staat symbool voor het even grote aantal slachtoffers die dag, vandaag precies 25 jaar geleden. Bedenker Ralph Nauta, oprichter van Studio Drift, bedacht 20 jaar geleden het concept, waarbij drones zó op elkaar afgestemd werden, dat ze als een soort zwerm vogels door de lucht konden vliegen. Voor dag en dauw zaten de eersten al voor de deur van de Ziggo Dome: fans van zeer populaire K-pop meidengroep Katseye. De band groeide in een paar jaar uit tot een van de grootste meidengroepen ter wereld. Op TikTok zie je ontelbaar veel filmpjes van fans die bekende Katseye-dansjes doen. "Ze zijn gewoon fantastisch", vertelt een Spaanse fan. Uitgedost in fluffy laarzen, kleurrijke outfits en zelfgemaakte accessoires, wachten de fans geduldig in de regen. "Ik was hier om vijf uur vanmorgen, maar we staan wel vooraan in de VIP-rij," zegt een fan. Ondanks de regen en kou, vinden zij het de moeite waard. De aanwezige fans komen van over de hele wereld. Net als de meiden uit de band zelf. De groep is ontstaan uit een talentenjacht met als doel het vormen van een succesvolle 'girlband' met K-pop- roots. Na een afvalrace, waarbij fans op hun favoriete deelnemers stemde, ontstond een groep van zes meiden, ieder met een andere nationaliteit. In 2024 braken ze door met hun tweede single 'touch'. Voor de show van vanavond komen de fans voor slechts vier leden te staan. "De andere twee zijn tijdelijk uitgevallen", vertelt een fan. Maar dat maakt het niet minder leuk volgens de aanwezigen. "Ze zijn gewoon fantastisch, ik mag zelfs met ze op de foto", vertelt een andere fan . De band staat vooral bekend om hun K-pop choreografie en up-beat muziek. " Het ontwerp zelf kost maar tien procent van de tijd die ervoor nodig is om zoiets te realiseren, zegt Nauta. Hij moest veel meer tijd en energie in andere zaken steken. "Iets in New York laten vliegen is extreem moeilijk. Deze droneshow was 500 meter hoog. Om dat voor elkaar te krijgen, mocht er dus niets anders vliegen in dat gebied. Daar moet je dan weer een vergunning voor aanvragen én weer stopzetten. Zulke dingen gaan niet 1-2-3." Uiteindelijk lukte het dus toch. Voor Nauta alleen jammer dat hij er zelf niet bij kon zijn. "Ik mocht niet naar Amerika, want mijn visum was verlopen. Daar baal ik natuurlijk enorm van. Want dit is een van de meest bijzondere dingen die je met deze technologie die we bedacht hebben kan doen." Toch kreeg Nauta naar eigen zeggen genoeg mee van het resultaat. "Ik heb natuurlijk al heel veel van deze droneshows gedaan, dus ik weet goed hoe zoiets eruitziet. They then travel to Washington, D.C., where the footage captures prominent landmarks of the capital. His intense loyalty to the Emperor allows him to break into national politics in 1940. After he is made Prime Minister in 1941, he gives the order to bomb Pearl Harbour. This is followed by a swift invasion of South East Asia in a succession of very successful military campaigns where the Japanese army inflict extreme atrocities on civilians and prisoners of war. Tojo approves many further extreme acts of brutality, with no battlefield experience he runs a disastrous campaign in which he loses nearly a third of his men. With the fall of the island of Saipan in 1944, his career is finished. After the US conquest of Japan, he attempts but fails to commit suicide. When we first meet Mustafa, there are only a few weeks left until the state election in Saxony-Anhalt.
