It sounds weird, but randomness can actually improve computer calculations, in certain circumstances. After some digging into the reasons why, I’ve uncovered three different ways this can happen. The first one is noisy computation, then there’s stochastic computation, and then there’s probabilistic computation. What exactly are the differences and how do they help computation? Leading researchers across the sciences, Addy Pross, Chrisantha Fernando, and Kate Adamala, discuss the origin, and thus the meaning, of life on Earth. Will it ever be discovered, or should we accept a degree of mystery around where we come from? Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/the-origin-of-life?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description Humans have always marvelled at the wonders of life. But for nearly a century science has had an explanation for the immense variety of life forms on earth. Out of a primordial soup a random combination of chemicals generated the building blocks of life. Evolution did the rest. But might this account be mistaken? Despite decades of effort, biologists and biochemists have been unable to evolve living things from inorganic material. The emergence of the first cell and the development of complex life remain a mystery. Is there something about the origin of life that means it will never be uncovered? Is the failure to account for life a threat to the whole evolutionary story? Or might we be able at some point to demonstrate the evolution of cells from inorganic material and the subsequent development of complex life forms? And if so where might this solution be found? #originoflife #biology #physics Join molecular biologist Güneş Taylor as she hosts a discussion on biology’s most central question: how did life begin? Bitterballen Ingredients: - 500g beef mince - 1 brown onion, diced - 1.5 tbsp salt, divided - 1 tsp black pepper - 0.5 tsp nutmeg - 120g unsalted butter - 120g flour (for roux) - 700ml beef stock - small handful of parsley, chopped - 200g flour (for coating) - 200g breadcrumbs - 3 eggs, beaten - tallow or oil, for frying Method: 1. In a frying pan, sauté the diced onion with a tablespoon of beef tallow and a big pinch of salt for 2-3 minutes. Add the beef mince, another pinch of salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Cook for 5-6 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside. 2. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook the roux for 3-4 minutes. Gradually add the beef stock in 2 to 3 additions, whisking continuously until the sauce is thick and smooth. Continue to cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, then pour over the cooked beef and onion mixture. Add the chopped parsley and stir well. 3. Line a tray with greaseproof paper and pour the beef mixture onto it, spreading it out flat. Chill in the freezer for 1 hour or in the fridge overnight until solid. 4. Once set, turn the mixture out of the tray, remove the paper, and cut into 2cm x 2cm cubes. Roll each cube into a ball. Coat each ball first in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat in breadcrumbs. Place on a tray dusted with extra breadcrumbs until ready to fry. 5. Heat tallow or oil to 170°C. Fry the bitterballen for 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve with mustard. #shortsvideo #shorts #food #recipe #cooking #howto #viral #cookingrecipes #asmr #beef #holland #dutch #asmr #asmrcooking

German police stormed the building after one hour of streaming and switched off the power without any reason whatsoever. They have now banned the conference from taking place. In a joint initiative between the Berlin-based organisation Jüdische Stimme für Gerechten Frieden in Nahost (Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East) and DiEM25, the necessary funding has been successfully secured through donations to ensure that the Palestine Congress can move forward. Karin de Rigo, MERA25’s top candidate for the European Elections in Germany, will be moderating a panel discussion with Yanis Varoufakis and delivering the closing intervention. "We stand in solidarity with all those seeking justice and are committed to the principles of democracy and human rights. This Congress represents a significant moment for those of us advocating for Palestinian rights, offering a platform for solidarity against repression and a pathway to engage the German government on issues of accountability. Joining forces with other organisations at the Palestine Congress, we aim to contribute to the global dialogue on justice for Palestine. We're committed to calling out and confronting Germany's involvement in the atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza," Karin de Rigo shared. At the beginning of 2023 we all met up in Agadez, Niger. It was the first time the band was all together in Agadez in years. It felt special. The idea was to set up a bunch of generator shows throughout Agadez in that week and record it all. 'Outside The School' was one of the very first locations we shot. We set up all the gear, plugged in a generator that powered the lights, amps, and recording setup, and handed out a couple Iphones on gimbels to a couple of our friends, Guichene, and Ahmoudou with the one instruction, 'don't hit the stop button'. With no advertisement ahead of time for these shows the kids heard the music, and they came. When they hear Mdou Moctar, they freak out. This is Mdou Moctar Imouhar – Live Outside The School (Agadez, Niger). -Mikey Coltun Imouhar is the Tuareg equivalent to "brother" or "comrade.” It’s a familial way to say “Tuareg people” that expresses a shared bond. “Imouhar” is featured on Mdou Moctar’s upcoming album ‘Funeral For Justice’ out on Matador Records, May 3, 2024. ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=Musical_Memory_Tricks_to_Save_Time_Learning_New_Guitar_Pieces&utm_content=B44RCe9OOCM If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

This Burning Archive interview tackles a critical question: Can Australia and China rewrite their shared Asian history? Delving into the subtleties of China-Australia history, the Burning Archive interviews a brilliant Australian historian who specializes in Australian Chinese communities, Sophie Loy-Wilson. Sophie shows how we all have a capacity for a more "generous approach to storytelling". We can rewrite history, without relying on political leaders. Discover how historical narratives have shaped international relations, and how a shift in perspective can unlock new ways to connect across borders. Learn about the historical factors shaping the relationship between these two nations and how a reframing of the past can pave the way for a more compassionate future. And as a special bonus Sophie Loy-Wilson (Senior Lecturer in History at Sydney University) offers her top three history book recommendations to learn about the history of China through the lives of individuals. The article "Ruptured Histories: Australia, China and Japan", co-authored by Sophie Loy-Wilson and Andrew Levidis in History Australia can be read for free here https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14490854.2024.2312210 Sophie Loy-Wilson's book, Australians in Shanghai is available at good public and university libraries and here https://amzn.to/3JkFsOF. Chechnya's Cultural Minister just banned all music outside of 80-116BPM...why? well.... This is probably just a clever way to make sure that Lezginka is legal (which is crazy fast, but whose half time tempo fits within this window) but foreign music like House and Techno does not.
