Yanis Varoufakis, Vicky Pryce and Roger Hearing debate economic forecasts. This excerpt was taken from 'Economic fact and economic fantasy,' recorded at our IAI Live online event from December 2023. Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/economic-fact-and-economic-fantasy?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description&utm_medium=head-to-head Although there has been a recent fall, central banks are widely seen to have failed to control inflation. At times running up to six times target, the banks blamed the Ukraine war, but critics point to the rapid rise in inflation before war broke out, and amongst other factors often find quantitative easing at fault. Moreover, some claim there is a more fundamental problem that there is no overall coherent economic theory in the first place. Bank models failed to predict the 2008 crash or the more recent cost of living crisis. In 2015, the European Central Bank claimed that neither monetarist nor Keynesian economics provided solutions to the financial crisis, leading some to question if any economic theory had the answers. Should we conclude that central bank failures to predict, let alone avoid, economic crises are evidence of a deep underlying flaw in their understanding? Or were banks just negligent in their failure to respond to evidence of rising inflation? Do we need a radical new economic theory or should we conclude that the economy is not predictable, forecasting a mugs game, and the options for government policy wider than commonly supposed? #EconomicCrisis #EconomicFailure #YanisVaroufakis Yanis Varoufakis is a leading critic of the economic establishment. He was the former Finance Minister of Greece, a professor, bestselling author, and current chair of the Democracy in Europe Movement 2025. Vicky Pryce is a Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research, bestselling author and prominent businesswoman. She is also a visiting professor at King’s College London and Birmingham City University. Onion Tarte Tatin Ingredients: - 150g (about 5.3 oz) strong white flour - 1 teaspoon salt (plus more for seasoning the onions) - 160g (about 5.6 oz) butter (120g and 40g separated) - 1 tablespoon olive oil - 6 small brown onions - 1 tablespoon brown sugar - 3 tablespoons balsamic glaze - 3 sprigs of thyme - Goat's cheese, for garnish Method: 1. To make the rough puff pastry, add the flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 120g of butter (slightly softened but not at room temperature) to a bowl. 2. Using your hands, crumble the butter into the flour. Aim to keep some larger lumps of butter. Gradually add ice-cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together. Then wrap it in cling film, shape it into a disc, and chill in the fridge for 1 hour. 3. After chilling, roll out the dough to approximately 20cm x 10cm (about 8" x 4"). Fold it over itself like a letter going into an envelope, press firmly, cover, and return to the fridge for another hour. 4. Repeat the rolling and folding process three more times. 5. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F). 6. Peel the onions, keeping the ends intact, and cut them in half. In a cast-iron pan over medium heat, add the remaining 40g of butter and the olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and place the onions face down in the pan. 7. Sprinkle over the brown sugar and thyme leaves, and pour over the balsamic glaze. 8. Cook over medium-low heat for 10 minutes. 9. Meanwhile, roll out the pastry to 0.5cm (about 0.2") thick and cut a disc slightly larger than the pan. 10. Place the pastry disc over the onions, tucking the edges down the sides. Score 5-6 small holes in the pastry to allow steam to escape. 11. Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown. 12. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 3-4 minutes before turning out onto a plate. 13. Garnish with goat's cheese and serve. #cooking #howto #shortsvideo #foryou #food #recipe #asmr #cookingrecipes #shorts #onions #veg #fyp

ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=Tension_in_Your_Fretting_Hand?_This_Simple_Exercise_Gets_Amazing_Results&utm_content=c4VQRFVUuHA If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

In 1976, Kodak tried to challenge rival Polaroid's dominance of the instant photography market by releasing its own line of instant film and cameras. Designed to skirt as many of Polaroid's patents as possible, Kodak instant cameras integrated a number of unique features, such as rear-exposed film and hand-cranked film ejection. While these products were initially successful, Kodak was swiftly sued by Polaroid for patent infringement and ultimately lost, forcing it to end production of its instant cameras after only 10 years. Made with Few & Far Butcher Co. 100% Wagyu Beef Burger patties - now available at @HarrisFarmAU Ingredients: - 100g rocket - 200g blue cheese - 6 tbsp salted butter - 4 large yellow onions, thinly sliced - 2 bay leaves - 2 tbsp thyme, finely chopped - 2 tbsp olive oil - salt and pepper, to taste - 4 Wagyu burgers - 2 burger buns Method: 1. Begin by making the caramelised onions. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the thinly sliced onions, bay leaves, and a pinch of salt. Cook this for 1 hour, stirring often to prevent the onions from catching and burning at the bottom. 2. During the last 15 minutes of cooking, add the chopped thyme to the onions and stir well. 3. Season the Wagyu burgers with salt on both sides. Grill them to your preference using the 3-4-1 method: 3 minutes on one side, 4 minutes on the other, and then 1 minute on the last side. During the last minute of grilling, add about 50g of blue cheese to each burger to melt. 4. While the burgers are resting, butter the inside of the burger buns with softened butter and toast them. 5. To assemble, start with the toasted bun, add some caramelised onions, place the Wagyu burger patty with melted blue cheese on top, add a handful of rocket, and then cap it with the other half of the toasted bun. Enjoy! #cooking #food #recipe #burger #beef #wagyu #grill #bluecheese #viral #food #foryou #howto

Medieval foodie Clarissa Dickson Wright tracks down Britain's oldest known cookbook, King Richard II's 700-year-old scroll "The Forme of Cury", and compares its contents with the way we eat today, as well as re-creating some of the dishes for a group of food and medieval history experts. The king's kitchens were highly organized, with up to 300 staff working in various roles, and the cookbook reflects the culinary techniques and terminology of the time. Some of the recipes, such as a luxurious sweet and sour fish dish and pears poached in red wine, highlight the use of exotic spices and ingredients in medieval English cooking.
