Mainstream media and politicians are decrying a surge in antisemitic incidents in Europe, as Israel continues its indiscriminate bombing of Palestinians in retaliation for the Hamas attack of October 7. But these pronouncements have also sparked accusations of Islamophobia. Some politicians and commentators have implied that antisemitism is intrinsic to Muslim communities. Meanwhile, European leaders and institutions are intensifying their crackdown on public solidarity with the Palestinian cause, banning protests, cancelling events, and creating a climate that challenges Europe’s commitment to free speech. What’s the reality behind these disturbing dynamics? What repercussions might there be for the wider Middle Eastern context? And, of course, what can we all do about it? That’s what our panel, including Yanis Varoufakis, Erik Edman and Julijana Zita, will discuss. Polly Vernon, Will Storr and Stefan Simanowitz debate the merits and dangers of celebrity. Does fame have a destructive influence on culture? This is an extract from 'The fantasy of fame'. Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/the-fantasy-of-fame?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description We live in a culture seemingly obsessed with celebrity. But whereas fame used to be a secondary product of success in a given field, now it is a goal in its own right and the key to wider success. Artists as a result focus their attention on their social media persona, rather than rely on their craft. Not surprising that the current generation pursues individual fame, with 86% of young people aspiring to be influencers, with figures such as Kylie Jenner holding 228 million Instagram followers. Is our focus on celebrity and fame destroying culture? Should we reclaim the value of the work over the individual, the ads and the social media followings? And is fame worth having in any case, and would we be better abandoning it as a goal? Or should we see fame as a talent in itself and recognise the skill and savviness of 21st century influencers? #influencer #celebrity #evolution 00:00 Introduction 00:13 Will Storr on the evolution of status 02:24 Stefan Simanowitz on why kids want to be famous 04:43 Polly Vernon on getting famous young 08:25 Is fame a talent? 11:46 Will Storr on extroversion and narcissism Amnesty International's media manager Stefan Simanowitz, Grazia columnist Polly Vernon and award-winning author Will Storr take celebrity to trial. ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=R_Schumann_Op15_No_1_Free_Classical_Guitar_Sheet_Music&utm_content=YrgDiDFvKMo If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

Lamb wellington Ingredients - 1 kg (approx. 2.2 lbs) lamb fillet - 2 tbsp peanut oil - 300g (approx. 10.5 oz) Swiss brown mushrooms, which is roughly 2.5 cups chopped - small bunch of rosemary, finely chopped - 50g (3.5 tbsp) butter - 100ml (7 tbsp) brandy - 150g (1 1/8 cups) flour - 240ml (1 cup) milk - 3 eggs - 5 slices prosciutto - 2 tbsp Dijon mustard - 2 sheets butter puff pastry - flaky sea salt, to finish Method 1. Season the lamb fillets with salt on all sides. In a hot cast-iron pan with the peanut oil, sear the lamb on all sides until nicely coloured. Remove from the pan and let cool on a resting tray. 2. Finely dice the mushrooms either in a food processor or by hand, taking care not to create a purée. If using a food processor, use the pulse function. 3. Melt the butter in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and rosemary, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the mushrooms have released their moisture. Deglaze with brandy and reduce until evaporated. Remove from heat, adjust seasoning, and cool in the fridge. 4. For the crêpes, whisk together the flour, milk, and 2 eggs to form a smooth batter. In a non-stick pan with a little oil over medium to medium-low heat, pour in enough batter to cover the bottom. Cook until set, then flip and cook for another minute. Remove and let cool on a rack. 5. To assemble the Wellington, lay out cling film, place a layer of crêpes, followed by prosciutto, and then spread a layer of the mushroom mixture (duxelles), trimming any excess. Brush the cold lamb fillet with mustard and place in the centre of the duxelles. Roll all the layers together tightly in cling film and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour. 6. Lay one sheet of pastry on a bench, place the chilled lamb roll from the fridge on top, then cover with another sheet of pastry. Press the edges to seal tightly, trim any excess, and wrap tightly in cling film. Chill again for 1 hour. 7. Remove from the plastic, brush with a beaten egg, and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 30 minutes. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt to finish. #lamb #cooking #food #foryou #howto #gordonramsay #viral #asmr #recipe #shorts #shortsvideo
A lot of you have asked why I do not own an e-mtb, and so in this video I'm going to break it down. Doing this was actually an interesting exercise in examining my own fleet, and why it looks the way it does. With the bike industry pushing E-MTB hard, I get offered ebikes left and right, but always decline. This isn't due to hate or resistance, it's just a lack of interest on my part and an urge to do other things. Thanks to Phat Tire in Bentonville, AR for loaning me an E-MTB for the day. With the increase of cheap flights and the rise of low-cost airlines, the number of 'atypical' contracts has also been growing. Pilots and cabin crew with this type of contract have a weaker legal position, making them more likely to continue working when they are too ill or tired. Based on dozens of testimonies, Zembla investigates the working conditions of pilots and cabin crew members working for European budget airlines. One year with lil Sonny Bunny in our family! He’s the greatest lil cuddly bun 💛🧡🤎 I love pet rabbits and have had years of experience with them so always like including a PSA: They should not be gifted as novelty pets, they aren’t ideal for children as they are prey animals that don’t typically love being handled and picked up. They shouldn’t be caged, they need lots of room to live and play, with 24hr access to Hay and lots of environment stimulation - plus a lot of bunny proofing as they can chew through anything and escape out of almost anything. They CAN be litter trained but don’t respond well to vocal commands like dogs. (I’ve had great success with clicking sounds and hand signals for training) they are incredibly fragile with sensitive digestive systems and don’t show obvious signs of sickness so unfortunately can fall fatally ill rapidly. They require exotic vets, which even in major cities can be difficult especially in emergencies. They can live up to 10+ years! They poop all day, nap up to 18 times a day, are silent and are self cleaning, they don’t have an odor unless you don’t clean their homes enough. They can take years to form a bond with other rabbits and humans. But a bonded bunny is like no other 🤎 Sonny is an exceptionally good yet rare example of a pet rabbit, years of research, prep and patience helped with that! #hollandlop #petrabbit #bunniesofinstagram #petlovers #freeroambunny #petlife

This is the chilling tale of the Gunpowder Plot. In Westminster in 1605, a group of Catholic conspirators, led by charismatic Robert Catesby, hatched a daring plan to assassinate the King, Queen, and Parliament members by igniting 36 barrels of gunpowder beneath the British Parliament. The dramatic events unfolded as Guy Fawkes, a Catholic soldier, was caught red-handed. We will delve into the historical intrigue, betrayal, and the subsequent arrest and trial of the conspirators. This door kept slamming shut by itself whenever we tried to air the place out. We got a door stopper, but I realized that the layout of the apartment is the same as that of a carburetor and the reason behind the moving of the door is the same as behind the moving of the fuel in a carburetor. Both the carburetor and the apartment feature large open spaces which are connected by a narrow passage between them. This narrow passage results in an increased air velocity and an increase in air velocity results in a decrease in air pressure. A decrease in air pressure leads to atmospheric air pressure working for us and pushing the fuel into the engine and moving doors in an apartment in ghost-like fashion. The atmosphere in which we live has an air pressure (1 bar or 14.5 psi) because all the air above us has a mass. This mass pushes down on us and creates pressure. Pressure is higher at sea level because there is more air mass above as at sea level than at the top of a mountain. If we manage to reduce air pressure at any point then atmospheric air pressure will push things towards the point of low pressure. Air always moves from high to low pressure because air aims to equalize pressure everywhere. Now we can reduce air pressure at a desired point by increasing air velocity at that point. A narrow passage between two large spaces is a great and simple way to increase air velocity at the passage because the narrowing space acts as a constriction or bottleneck and so air builds behind this constriction and pushes air or another fluid through the narrow passage with greater velocity. You have probably experienced this yourself if you ever blocked off half a garden hose with your thumb to increase the velocity of the water coming out the hose. Now increased air velocity results in reduced air pressure because the fast moving air molecules they bump away the still-standing air, they disperse it or reduce it's concentration if you will. This why doors in a draft will often slam shut by themselves. Air velocity increases across the front of the door so air pressure reduces on the front of the door but atmospheric air pressure remains behind the door. This pushes the door and moves it into a position where the air drag can grab it and slam it shut. The same thing happens to the fuel inside the carburetor. One side of the fuel is exposed to atmospheric air pressure but the other side of the fuel is exposed to reduced air pressure that occurs due to the increased air velocity in the narrow section in the middle of the carburetor. This is how atmospheric air pressure managed to push the fuel up through the tube that leads to the fuel hole in the narrow passage. The fuel slightly protrudes above the level of the hole and then the air drag grabs it and takes it into the engine. But this does raise an important question. If we rely on the throttle slide or butterfly to provide air flow through the carburetor how do we get fuel into the engine when there is no airflow i.e. the throttle slide is released and the engine idles? We do this by leveraging the power of the vacuum generated by the engine and using the idle air bypass. The throttle slide acts like a barrier between the atmosphere and the engine internals. The downward motion of the pistons generates a vacuum and when the throttle slide is released it prevents the atmosphere from entering the engine so the vacuum or the pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the engine remains. In reality we perceive this vacuum as air being sucked into the engine and when the throttle slide is released and the engine idles - vacuum is strong. So the engine can suck in air through the idle air bypass. But as soon as the throttle slide is raised atmosphere enters, vacuum weakens and so the task of fueling the engine gets transferred from the pilot jet and the idle air bypass to the main jet. But here's for the metadata: this video is explicitly about adrenergic receptors. More specifically, the Alpha subtype, and even more specifically, Alpha 2 Adrenergic Receptors. This thing throws a massive curveball to learners in all medical disciplines because Alpha 2 agonism / antagonism are opposite of Alpha 1. The topic of these receptors can be a few weeks long in a Pharm course in Medical and Pharmacy schools, and that course would be dedicated specifically to cardiac pharmacology, so this is as much I can cover in an 18 minute video. There might be people who will go "nooooo u cant just say that about my tree bark supplement" but the point is and has always been to teach about the pharmacology, its mechanism and how the setting of excess changes the pharmacokinetics-- the agent serves as a means for me to teach that because it has that activity. If it didn't have that activity, I'd talk about something else that does in this setting. It's a fascinating molecule, like all natural products. If you don't need to ingest it, don't ingest it, but I trust you are well in your best capacity to make decisions for yourself. These cases are patients who I, or my colleagues have seen. They are de-identified and many instances have been presented in more depth in an academic setting. These videos are not individual medical advice and are for general educational purposes only. Despite his long and fruitful association with the impressionists, Edgar Degas preferred to be called a realist. His focus on urban subjects, artificial light, and careful drawing distinguished him from other impressionists, such as Claude Monet, who worked outdoors, painting directly from their subjects. A steely observer of everyday scenes, Degas tirelessly analyzed positions, gestures, and movement, whilst his developing use of colour encapsulated grace and power like no other, particularly with ballerinas.
