Wat rest is spektakel: het politieke equivalent van de flashmob, opgetrommeld via X of Telegram, die oplaait en weer uiteenvalt. Er zijn legio voorbeelden te vinden: van Black Lives Matter tot Gele Hesjes, van Occupy tot de Malieveldrellen. Zowel links als rechts kampt met dezelfde kater. Politicoloog Anton Jäger heeft hier een woord voor bedacht: hyperpolitiek. Om te snappen hoe we in deze hyperpolitieke kater terecht zijn gekomen, neemt Jäger ons terug naar de twintigste eeuw. Eerst naar de massapolitiek van trouwe partijleden en machtige vakbonden. Daarna naar de post-politiek van de jaren negentig: toen politiek iets voor de technocraten werd, ideologie werd afgeschud en toen niemand nog ergens lid van wilde zijn. En uiteindelijk liggen de wortels van onze huidige hyperpolitiek in het jaar 2008, het jaar van de wereldwijde financiële crisis, én van de razendsnelle opkomst van de iPhone. Zo kwamen we uit in het tijdperk van de hyperpolitiek: overal in het westen lijden samenlevingen aan hoge politieke koortsen zonder de partijen en instituties om die uit te zweten. Want een betoging tot stand gekomen als een flashmob via Telegram is iets fundamenteel anders dan een massabetoging georganiseerd door een partij. Volgens Jäger komt die oude vorm van politiek niet meer terug, want: ‘Je kunt geen dinosaurus klonen.’ Nederland was in het ontstaan van die hyperpolitiek overigens absoluut geen toeschouwer, zegt Jäger, maar pionier. Wij liepen voorop in deze nieuwe, hitsige cyclus van eendagsvlieg-partijen en digitale protestgolven. Waar zal dit naartoe gaan? Volgens Jäger zal het leiden tot meer wrijving, meer polarisering, mogelijk zelfs meer geweld. It may date to as early as 1949, when Fighter Squadron 17A (VF-17A) transitioned from the FH-1 Phantom to the F2H-1 Banshee. Or, it may date to early 1954, when F2H Banshees first flew off the USS Midway, deploying with Carrier Group 1 for an around-the-world cruise. (Note: the "XC" on the tail of the planes identifies VF-17A). Carrier qualifications for the Banshee took place in March of 1949 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42). In Poland - as well as in Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia - same sex couples can’t register as legal life partners or get married. That’s in contrast with all other EU countries. In Germany, for example, it’s been possible since 2000. To get around this, somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000 Polish people have got married abroad. The government commissioner for equality, Katarzyna Kotula, has announced that she’ll push for Poland to recognise these unions – since passing Tusk’s law on civil partnerships seems impossible in the face of Nawrocki’s veto. Recognition of foreign marriages is indeed possible within the EU. The proposed law - which Nawrocki just vetoed - would have enabled couples who can’t or don’t want to marry, to enter into a legal contract, which would provide them with certain rights. This would include, for example, the right to medical information and pension payments after the death of a partner. It would also have enabled maintenance claims and joint tax filing.
