A look inside a quartz watch: how it keeps time.

Israel is preparing to strike Gaza but this is a major moment for both Israel and the United States. The actions of Hamas on Oct 7th are horrible, they MUST be condemned, but Israel MUST protect civilian lives as they respond to the brutal attacks from Hamas, if they don't, it could completely undermine the entire US world led order and the United States credibility on the international stage. When should artists get paid in a world with AI music? Subscribe for more optimistic science and tech stories! Artificial intelligence is changing how music gets made - and how musicians get paid. AI is letting people clone artists’ voices, create completely new songs as fake collaborations, generate lyrics in seconds, even produce full tracks just by typing in a few words. It’s all causing some to say AI will be “the death of music.” Technology causes turning points in history. And I think we’re in one right now for music. The stakes are high: If we get this wrong, we could jeopardize how human musicians make money and art. But if we get it right, we have an opportunity to leap ahead in how we as humans get to express ourselves. To really understand what’s happening with AI music, you need to understand how the music industry ALREADY works - and how it could be changing. In this video, I took a deep dive into that topic with the help of two people right in the thick of it: The artist Grimes and CEO of Spotify Daniel Ek. Chapters: 00:00 What is happening with AI in music? 02:05 Why would we want AI music? 04:03 How are musicians using AI? 06:17 When should musicians get paid? 07:15 What is copying versus inspiration? 08:26 How does copyright work in music? 10:06 Should artists get paid for AI training on their music? 11:55 What happens when AI generates its own songs? 12:54 How could AI music be "huge if true"? Yes: yet another Viewmaster model! I guess I'm officially a collector now... The Viewmaster Model B was the second Viewmaster design produced by Sawyer's, manufactured from 1944-1947. The Model A was manufactured from Kodak Tenite plastic, which had a tendency to warp; this was corrected in the Model B, which was moulded from more stable Bakelite. Though the Model A and B featured different styling, they incorporated nearly all the mechanical features that would characterize all subsequent Viewmaster models. Carmela’s Lasagne Ingredients - 2 sticks celery, diced - 1 carrot, peeled and grated - 1 onion, finely diced - 4 cloves garlic, finely diced - 3 tbsp olive oil - 6 sausages (I used pork and fennel, but any will work) - 500g (1.1lbs) pork mince - 500g (1.1lbs) beef mince - 1 tbsp tomato paste - 200ml (6.8fl oz) red wine - 700g (1.5lbs) tomato passata - 1kg (2.2lbs) ricotta - 200g (7oz) low moisture mozzarella, grated - 50g (1.8oz) parmesan, grated - 500g (1.1lbs) fresh lasagne sheets - 1/2 bunch basil, picked Method 1. Start by making the meat sauce. In a large pot over a medium-high heat, add the olive oil, and once it's warm, add the sausages and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside. 2. To the same pot, add the onions, garlic, carrot, celery, and a pinch of salt, and sweat down for 3-4 minutes. 3. Next, add both the minces and break up well with a wooden spoon, then add the tomato paste and continue to brown the meat for 7-8 minutes. 4. Now, add the red wine and let the alcohol burn off for 1-2 minutes before adding the passata and stirring through. 5. Bring back to a light simmer and return the sausages to the pot; simmer this on a low heat for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. 6. Once cooked, remove the sausages and dice into small pieces. 7. To assemble, in an oven-safe dish, add some of the sauce to the bottom, then a layer of lasagne, 1/4 of the ricotta, 1/5 of the mozzarella, and 1/5 of the parmesan, and repeat until the final layer where you finish with the sausage and basil on top of the ricotta, then mozzarella and parmesan to finish. 8. Bake the lasagne in a 180°C (356°F) oven for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. 9. Let it rest for 10 minutes before you slice and serve! #pasta #cooking #recipe #howto #foryou #food #cheese #shorts #Lasagne #dinner

RC Car from the video (engine included): https://bit.ly/46FJDPn Nitro Engine by itself: https://bit.ly/48YGCvb Find more engines: https://www.enginediy.com/?ref=d4a Extra 10% off code: d4a I earn a small commission if you purchase something from the link above Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/d4a This engine here which fits neatly into my hand has a displacement of 2.95cc but it has an incredible power output of 1.8 horsepower. If you put it side by side with a 50cc 2 horsepower brush-cutter engine you realize just how incredible 1.8 horsepower from something this tiny actually is. But things get even crazier if we take the displacement and the power output and calculate the horsepower per liter for this little thing. The number we get is: 610 horsepower per liter. To put that into perspective, here’s the Koenigsegg Jesko, a 3 million dollar hypercar whose 5.1 liter twin-turbocharged V8 has a power output of 1603 horsepower when it runs on E85 ethanol fuel. These numbers give us a specific output of 316 horsepower per liter. So around half of this, and this, which is a single cylinder nitro engine, costs around 80 dollars. Now in order to match the specific output of this tiny engine we have to go beyond 3 million dollar hypercars and into current Formula 1 specifications, so from things money can buy to things that money cannot buy. Current Formula vehicles output between 750-1000 horsepower from their turbocharged 1.6 liter v6 engines and their hybrid drivetrain. Nobody knows the exact numbers because they’re not published but we will take the highest number which is 1000 horsepower and we will say that all of it comes from the engine alone, in other words we will ignore the hybrid capabilities of the F1 cars. In that scenario we get 625 horsepower liter. So we’re able to outmatch the specific power of this engine only when we stack the numbers in favor of Formula 1. But the only reason we can actually do this is because I’m using my budget friendly engine as reference. If take something a bit more competition oriented from a company called OS engines, which specializes in making these, let’s pick this one the O.S.SPEED R2105. It costs around 650ish dollars I think but it makes 2.76 horsepower from 3.95cc and that gives a specific output of 791 horsepower per liter, so not even Formula 1 can touch this. ow we have to answer some questions. How does this miniature little engine manage to have such incredible specific power? Well there are three reasons. Number 1 this engine is a two stroke, and as we know, two strokes squeeze more power from the same displacement at the expense of longevity and emissions Because this thing is a two stroke it doesn’t have camshafts, valves and valve springs. There’s nothing in here it’s just a giant heat sink with lots of coolant fins to maximize surface are and help the engine not overheat. Because there’s no valves and valve springs and because we have an absolutely tiny and very lightweight piston, rod and crank inside this engine it can rev to around 30.000 rpm. And this is the most important reason, it’s the fuel. This is called a nitro engine because the full it runs on is called nitromethane. And nitromethane is an absolutely incredible fuel with an incredible power potential. To observe that power potential we have to look at some numbers once again. This time let’s talk about power per unit of weight. If we put this on a scale we will see that it weighs 355 grams. Our power output is 1.8 horsepower which means that we make 5 horsepower per kilogram, or 2.3 horsepower per pound. Formula 1 makes 2.7 horsepower per pound or 6 horsepower per kilogram when the engine and the electric motor work together. So Formula 1 powertrains have a better power to weight ratio? Well, yes, but that’s only because the actual fuel used in this engine is only 16% nitromethane. But fortunately there exists something in this world which can demonstrate what happens with the power to weight ratio when you crank up the percentage of nitromethane in the fuel. You get this. And these are top fuel dragsters. Their fuel is 90% nitromethane the rest is mostly methanol. Their engines weigh around 226 kg and they output 11.000 horsepower. This gives us 22 horsepower per pound or 48.5 horsepower per kilogram In case you’re wondering, no, there is no electric motor that has a better power to weight ratio. Koenigsegg’s dark matter motor weighs 39 kilograms and is capable of outputting 800 horsepower, sounds very impressive but it gives us 9.3 horsepower per pound or 20.5 horsepower per kilogram. The most power dense electric motor currently in existence is the eHelix SPM177-165 from a company called Helix in the UK. It allegedly has a power to weight ratio of 15.4 horsepower per pound or 33.9 horsepower per kilogram. Part of ‘Bhagavad-Gita Yajña’ - chanting series. ‘Bhagavad-Gita Yajña’ - chanting series will cover the 'Dhyana slokas' and all the 18 chapters in chanting format. This will be presented in an audio-video format, akin to our Vishnu Sahasranamam recital by Ishaan Pai. Bhagavan-willing, Ishaan will extend it to many more little ones in the upcoming years. .................................................................................................. Produced, Directed, Recorded, Mixed, Mastered, Video Edited, Transliterated & Content Research by Kuldeep M Pai http://www.youtube.com/kuldeepmpai http://kuldeepmpai.com http://www.facebook.com/kuldeepmpai http://www.twitter.com/kuldeepmpai .................................................................................................. Each and every detail is attended to, paying focus on aesthetics too. * Our sincere gratitude and prostrations to Sri Ramanacharanatirtha Swamiji and Brahmashri Sadashivan for all the love and inspiration extended to Ishaan and myself during this journey. * For this Yajña, Ishaan has received special permission from his school to skip a couple of hours of class every morning to pursue our Bhagavad-Gita practice. Gratitude to the management and teachers of 'Chinmaya Vidyalaya’, and to the revered Swami Mitrananda Ji, for approving this with great enthusiasm and for the confidence he vests on us. * The Gita Chanting Chapter 1 above is the second video of ‘Bhagavad-Gita Yajña’ series, which will be followed by complete chapter-wise releases in the coming months. * ‘Vande Guru Paramparaam’ musical series will continue, undoubtedly as a Yajña, with a lot of surprises coming up in the future. Little ones sent by Bhagavan Himself, are being a part of this journey and thus joyfully tasting the nectar of Divine in the process. * Regular ‘Learn Bhagavad-Gita’ series will continue, where we delve deeply into the meanings and relish the nectar of Maa Bhagavad-Gita. We are almost reaching the end of the fourth chapter now. ..................................................................................................

Henri Toulouse-Lautrec was inspired by the vibrant nightlife of 19th-century Paris, particularly the Moulin Rouge and Cabaret venues. His life was marked by tragedy, including childhood leg injuries and a later struggle with alcohol addiction that contributed to his early death at age 36. Despite his personal challenges, Toulouse-Lautrec's paintings and graphic works are now recognized as significant contributions to the post-impressionist age. He was known for his graphic art and poster designs, particularly for the Moulin Rouge, and his work celebrated the lively and hedonistic aspects of Parisian life. Do good and evil exist? What is the purpose of these classifications? Watch Slavoj Žižek and Rowan Williams debate the nature of humanity. Watch the full debate at https://iai.tv/video/the-end-of-good-and-evil?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=description Whether we see humans as essentially good or essentially selfish and violent has been central to our politics, our account of society, and our vision for social progress. But is this very distinction itself a mistake? Recently, Harvard scientists have shown humans to be both the kindest and most malevolent species on the planet. While figures like Hitler and Stalin though responsible for tens of millions of deaths were also remarkably empathetic in aspects of their private lives. Should we give up the idea therefore that humans are either inherently good or bad and conclude that all of us are both at the same time with potentially profound consequences for our political beliefs? Or is it vital to retain the distinction to alert us to danger and to drive personal and social change? Or more profoundly, are the categories of good and bad themselves the underlying error and unhelpful, and even dangerous, ways of categorising human behaviour? #GoodAndEvil #SaintAugustine #HumanNature Slavoj Žižek is a globally renowned philosopher and cultural critic. He is international director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities at the University of London, visiting professor at New York University and a senior researcher at the University of Ljubljana's Department of Philosophy. Former Archbishop of Canterbury and Master of Magdalene College in Cambridge, Williams is a theologian, poet and author of Being Christian. The Institute of Art and Ideas features videos and articles from cutting edge thinkers discussing the ideas that are shaping the world, from metaphysics to string theory, technology to democracy, aesthetics to genetics.
