De Britse artiest Ed Sheeran heeft emotioneel gereageerd op de heisa van de afgelopen week tijdens zijn optreden in Philadelphia. Hij gaf toe dat hij fouten had gemaakt en excuseerde zich bij zijn fans. Ook sprak hij zich uit over wat er gebeurde op 7 oktober in Israël en wat er nadien volgde in Gaza. Buiten aan het stadion verliepen de pro-Palestijnse protesten zonder problemen. Na een tumultueuze week stond de Britse artiest Ed Sheeran voor het eerst op het podium sinds de Amerikaanse rapper Macklemore uit zijn tour is gezet. Dat concert vond plaats in het Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, in de staat Pennsylvania. Macklemore verzorgde een deel van het voorprogramma van Sheeran, maar moest de tour verlaten na verschillende steunbetuigingen voor Palestina. Terwijl de CDU treurt, is er grote vreugde bij de AfD. De radicaal-rechtse partij lijkt de verkiezingen in Mecklenburg-Voor-Pommeren te winnen. Ook in Berlijn gaat de AfD er fors op vooruit. Ze zet daarmee haar succes van 2 weken geleden in Saksen-Anhalt voort. "We zijn de nieuwe volkspartij van Duitsland", concludeert nationaal partijvoorzitter Alice Weidel in een interview met de publieke omroep ZDF. AfD en Die Linke lijken grote winnaars vanavond De eerste 'Hochrechnung', berekeningen op basis van de eerste tellingen, toont minimale veranderingen tegenover de eerste exitpoll van 18 uur. In Mecklenburg-Voor-Pommeren kan de AfD haar opmars na Saksen-Anhalt doorzetten en lijkt ze de verkiezingen te winnen met 37,1 procent. De sociaaldemocratische SPD volgt echter op korte afstand met 35,6 procent. The U.S. Navy equipped modified LCM-6 (Landing Craft Mechanized-6) river assault boats—specifically known as Monitors—with flamethrowers during the Vietnam War. These specialized fire-projecting watercraft were widely nicknamed "Zippo boats" after the famous windproof cigarette lighter. During the Vietnam conflict, SEAL Team One conducted unconventional warfare, reconnaissance, and direct-action raids in the rivers and jungles of South Vietnam, earning the enemy nickname "Men with Green Faces". The location where this footage was shot is unknown, although it is likely the Mekong River. The men in the film are also unidentified; the fact that their faces were not obscured is somewhat puzzling and might indicate the the footage was shot for internal use by the armed forces. At the time this footage was shot, SEAL Teams were fielding 12-man platoons, each comprising two squads of six men; most SEAL missions conducted in Vietnam were squad-sized operations. Navy SEALs, supported by riverine patrol boats and swift boat operators, waged guerilla warfare against the Viet Cong in the swamps and jungles. After about six years of combat, the relatively small group of SEALs accounted for 600 confirmed Viet Cong KIA and 300 more probables. Numerous others were captured or detained. Three SEALs received the Medal of Honor from actions they took during Vietnam. The last SEAL platoon departed Vietnam in late 1972. From Zosimus in 253 AD to Odoacer in 476, this video traces Rome's long collapse. See how crises, invasions, and reforms reshaped an empire and Europe. Zosimus, writing in Constantinople, recalled 253 AD as Goths plundered Black Sea shores while plague raged across towns and villages. But the rot began earlier. In 193 AD the Praetorian Guard auctioned the imperial throne to Didius Julianus after killing Pertinax, triggering the Year of Five Emperors. Across the third century, soldiers made and unmade emperors, coinage was debased to bribe legions, and the Plague of Cyprian hollowed population and production. There were flashes of recovery. Aurelian, hailed Restitutor Orbis, crushed Palmyra and the Gallic breakaway and raised the Aurelian Walls to shield Rome. Diocletian imposed the Tetrarchy to share rule and pursued the Great Persecution. Constantine defeated Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge, legalized Christianity with the Edict of Milan, founded Constantinople, and convened the Council of Nicaea. External shocks kept mounting. At Adrianople in 378 the Goths killed Emperor Valens. Alaric's Visigoths besieged Rome repeatedly and finally sacked the city in 410. Meanwhile Vandals, Alans, and Suebi crossed the Rhine in 406, likely over ice; Britain was abandoned in 410; Attila's Huns coerced tribute and invaded Italy; and the Vandals returned to sack Rome again in 455. In 476 Odoacer deposed Romulus Augustulus and styled himself King of Italy. The East endured as the Byzantine Empire, briefly reconquering parts of the West under Justinian and Belisarius before Arab conquests, Slavic migrations, and new powers reshaped the map. Yet Rome's legacy persisted in law, language, the Church, and the very idea of empire, revived in 800 when Charlemagne was crowned in Rome.
