🔍 Unlocking the Mysteries of Social Divisions and Political Turmoil 🔍 Welcome to the thought-provoking audio podcast, The Burning Archive! In this episode, I explore social conflict to understand why we can't all just get along. Join me to explore the fascinating world of social differences, elite competition, and political breakdowns. 🗝️ Unraveling the Complexities of Social Differences: 🗝️ Throughout history, society has been shaped by the stark contrasts among its members - economic disparities, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, and political ideologies. Today these differences seem to be growing, leading to conflicts and divisions among people. 💼 Elite Showdowns: People vs. Elites or Elites vs Elites: 💼 I give examples from history, of class struggle and conflicts between the people and the elites. But here's the twist! According to Peter Turchin's intriguing theory, elites may actually fight hardest against each other. I discuss the reasons behind this elite competition and how it affects the rest of society. 🏛️ Stockholm's Society of Islands: 🏛️ Yet, in the midst of social turbulence, there are beacons of hope, like Stockholm. The Nordic city sets an example of how we do not need to be an island society, but a society of islands. It offers a model to live together harmoniously and accept our differences. 🌐 Join the Discussion 🌐 Leave a comment below, and I will respond. I love to chat with my listeners. My Oppenheimer review looks at the Bhagavad Gita scene that is causing controversy. Oppenheimer might be the best ever biopic, but it has provoked controversy in India because of the way the film presents a line from Hindu scripture. Thinking about this issue with history, this video will help you understand the moral debates at the heart of Openheimer and appreciate the Bhagavad Gita and the longer epic story of a catastrophic war from which it comes, the Mahabharata. #oppenheimer #bhagavadgita #filmreview #historyfacts

Ingredients For the caramel - 200g granulated sugar - a pinch of Maldon Sea Salt Flakes Cookies - 210g unsalted butter, cubed - 200g dark brown sugar - 100g granulated sugar - 2 eggs - 1 tsp vanilla extract - 330g all-purpose flour - ¾ tsp baking powder - ¾ tsp baking soda - 1 tsp Maldon Sea Salt Flakes - 300g dark chocolate, chopped - Maldon Sea Salt Flakes for finishing Method 1. To make the caramel, add the granulated sugar to a small saucepan. Over a medium heat, melt the sugar until you reach a golden amber colour (don't use a spoon to mix the caramel, just swirl the pot). 2. Season the caramel with a pinch of Maldon Sea Salt Flakes, then pour it onto a heat proof surface covered in grease proof paper and set aside to harden. 3. Add the cold butter, with a pinch of salt to a saucepan and melt. Once the butter has melted, continue to cook until it starts to develop a darker colour and smells almost nutty. Then, pour the butter into the bowl of a stand mixer and let it cool for 15-20 minutes. 4. While the hot butter is cooling, you can get all your dry ingredients ready in a separate bowl, chop your chocolate into large chunks, and smash the caramel into small coin size pieces. 5. Once your butter has cooled slightly, add both the sugars to the butter. Using the paddle attachment, start to mix it. Once the sugar has dissolved into the butter, add the eggs one at a time and beat until the eggs have emulsified into the sugar and butter. 6. Add your dry ingredients to this in 2 or 3 batches in total, at this point, you're just trying to bring the batter together and you don't want to overwork the mixture. 7. Once all the flour is in the mixing bowl, add the chopped chocolate and caramel and mix for another 2-3 minutes. 8. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and give it a light spray with cooking oil. Roll the cookie dough into balls and place them on the tray evenly spaced apart (you can make them as big or as small as you wish). Pat them down so they form a slight disc shape, then finish them with some Maldon Sea Salt Flakes. 9. Bake the cookies at 180°C for 10-12 minutes. Take them out of the oven while they’re still a little bit soft. Let them cool slightly and enjoy!

Or how light can reveal secrets from billions of years ago? In this video, I'm exploring the fascinating concept of the Doppler effect as it applies to light, known as redshift. By understanding redshift, and the expanding universe, scientists can peer almost 13.6 billion years into the past, observing the universe when it was just 2% of its current age. I'll also be giving away an awesome Space Shuttle Lego set, so be sure to stick around until the end of the video to learn more about how you can win! This new tech helps baseball teams understand how the wind will affect their games. It's called “Weather Applied Metrics,” and it uses computational fluid dynamic modeling and 3D geospatial data to create a replica of the weather conditions inside the ballpark. Starting this season, MLB teams are using it to figure out how weather affected previous games and to help forecast upcoming ones. If you like optimistic tech stories, subscribe for more! At the Southern tip of the Spanish peninsula is a piece of land measuring under 7 km2, whose GDP per capita is one of the highest in the world: it's Gibraltar. Gibraltar is one of Britain's overseas territories, and according to its citizens, it's happy to be one. Commuting to Spain for groceries and restaurants, welcoming thousands of Spaniards coming in for work daily, the lives of those living under the Rock are an extraordinary mix of English and Spanish culture. We went to the country that Spain defined "the last colony in Europe" to ask a young Spanish person and a young Gibraltarian what it means to grow up under the Rock.
