ClassicalGuitarShed.com can help you on the journey. If you want to rise to new levels in your playing, it just takes time and strategic work. To play classical guitar well, you need to know: * how to hold and touch the guitar - form and positioning * how to move your fingers and hands - efficient, clean, and fluid * how to learn pieces - reading music, understanding what you see, ingraining, polishing * how to craft the music so it is beautiful - swells and fades, rhythm, touch * how to practice so all these skills improve over time and don't go away At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You may have beautiful music in your head, but if your hands can't play it, it won't come out of the guitar. But bad technique puts a limit on your playing. Speed, tone quality, and control can suffer. Good technique gets stronger and more instinctive with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for your music. And you may want to understand music so you learn it more easily and it makes more sense. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. It's not something we can do on our own, like folk music. I have a structured and organized course to help you play classical guitar. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/ If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

There have been many systems for naming people over the centuries, but English-speakers tend to be familiar only with their own system. While it is true that modern Western surnames evolved in medieval Europe, there were other even more complex naming systems in use in other parts of the world prior to that. In this video we take a look at the naming system used among Arabic speakers in the Islamic Middle East prior to modern times. CORRECTIONS 1. I messed up the Arabic on the Spongebob slide. I didn't use the right grammatical form for the word "minutes." That's pretty embarrassing, honestly. In my defense, the Arabic rules for number agreement are out of control. (Needless to say, I'm not fluent in Arabic. This is not news to any Arabic speakers watching the video.) 2. The English word "camel" doesn't come from Egyptian Arabic. It comes from Phoenician by way of Greek. Phoenician and Arabic are both Semitic languages. In most Semitic languages the word for "camel" is some variation of "gamal," "gamla," etc. 3. I didn't talk about how kunyas can also be laqabs. Not so much a mistake as an omission. When I made the video I just didn't want to add extra explanation when it was already pretty long. But in retrospect, after seeing some of the comments, I see that I was leaving out an important and interesting part of Arabic naming.

In the ‘PFAS Cover-up’ Zembla uncovers what PFAS-producers Dupont and 3M knew of the dangers of their chemicals. Based on hundreds of internal company documents, Zembla reveals that Dupont knew for decades that the PFAS they used were dangerous and were spreading throughout the environment. Confidential memo’s, meeting reports and handwritten notes show that, going back as far as the early 60’s, the industry was well aware of the risks its invention posed for human health and the environment. Shockingly, the primary concern voiced in Dupont's files was the firm's own wellbeing: maintaining profits and avoiding legal liability. Winchester was once a thriving city and the capital of King Alfred in the 9th century. A leper hospital existed outside the city boundaries, housing outcasts afflicted with leprosy. Time Team, a group of archaeologists, has three days to locate the remains of the 12th-century leper hospital. Geophysics survey the site and find building remains and traces of a wall, indicating the presence of the hospital. Excavations uncover the chapel, cemetery, arms houses, and the potential graves of notable individuals, including John Ebden, the former Master of the leper hospital. Watch this video ad free on Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/breakingtaps-the-algorithm-that-embraces-random-chance ------------------------------------------------------- Today we're looking at HyperLogLog, an algorithm that leverages random chance to count the number of distinct items are in a dataset. It does this by tracking the longest run of zeros in a binary sequence, and uses that as an estimate of cardinality. HLL is a probabilistic algorithm, meaning it's a guess rather than true answer. But due to some clever tricks it is usually within 2% of the correct value, and can do it both quickly and in a memory-efficient manner. A 512kb datastructure can accurately process trillions of items and terrabytes of data, which is pretty impressive! When I made this video, I didn't realize that another #SoME3 was in progress. But a bunch of viewers suggested I enter the video, so I guess this is will be part of the event! ---------------------- 🔬Patreon if that's your jam: https://www.patreon.com/breakingtaps 📢Twitter: https://twitter.com/BreakingTaps 📷Instagram: https://instagram.com/breakingtaps 💻Discord: https://discord.gg/R45uCXcEv4 ---------------------- Journal papers: Flajolet, Philippe, et al. At the height of their power in the Baroque Age, the Habsburgs aspired to rule the entire world; by the end of the ninetheenth century, they strove merely to maintain control over the volatile lands of the upper Danube valley. We trace how the Habsburgs' domains evolved from a messy collection of local duchies into an absolutist empire, and finally into a complex military-industrian state, the home of artistic modernism, which was nonetheless threatened with destruction by a welter of nationalist movements and by the rising power of Serbia and Russia. This month saw one of the worst shipwrecks in Europe in a decade. Up to 700 people drowned, including at least 100 children, when a refugee boat sank off the Greek coast on June 14. It’s another tragic milestone resulting from the anti-migrant policies of governments like Greece, and of the EU itself. Inhumane policies that were given voice last year by the EU’s foreign affairs chief: Europe is “beautiful garden”, he said, that must be protected from the surrounding “jungle” that’s ready to “invade it”. Similar tragedies have failed to bring enough public attention to the plight of migrants in the Mediterranean. This time, though, could be different. Survivors and NGOs have accused Greek authorities of playing a role in the deaths. The Hellenic Coast Guard, they say, watched the boat drift for hours without making any attempt to rescue people — and may have then contributed to its capsizing. What are the latest developments in this crisis? Who should be held accountable? And what needs to change to prevent further tragedies? Join us for this vital conversation featuring our special guest, Miguel Duarte, a tireless migrants’ rights activist who has already aided in the rescue of 14,000 people. Sude and Orestis live in Nicosia, Cyprus. They’re both 22, both medical students with a passion for political science — yet they live under two different governments. Nicosia is the last divided capital in Europe: a Turkish occupation in the North, the Republic of Cyprus in the South, and a thick green line cutting the capital in half to keep the two separated. We talked to two young Cypriots from either side of the ceasefire line to learn what life on a divided island feels like, and what their dream is for their home. If you like, you can learn more here: https://classicalguitarshed.com/membership/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=Aguado_Guitar_Method_Lesson_No_11_Free_Classical_Guitar_Sheet_Music&utm_content=NkH1i6o2tNI If you would like to hear me (Allen Mathews) playing, visit my other youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/allenmathews/

Use the code "jamesbruton" at: https://www.iolo.com/coupon/jamesbruton/products/system-mechanic/?&isc=sm_jamesbruton_us_v_001 I was watching a video from YouTuber @matthiaswandel about an air engine that he built a few years ago. In fact it was a rebuild of an earlier project which he didn’t film, so he made an updated version and made a video about it. I thought this was really interesting and I wanted to understand how it worked better so I thought I’d build my own version. Matthias sells plans for lots of the things his makes, and he also has software for generating gears, so you should check that out as well as his channel if you don’t already subscribe. I bought the plans for the air engine which come with lots of photos, plans to cut the parts out of wood, and also a 3D model which is for Sketchup. There wasn’t any indication of how much torque the engine would generate in Matthias’s video and I think I want to make a slightly higher power version, so I’m actually going to redraw all the parts in CAD from scratch.
