Bewoners van huurwoningen in de Van Gilsestraat en de Burgemeester Eliasstraat in Slotermeer gingen vanmiddag naar het hoofdkantoor van verhuurder Eigen Haard om verhaal te halen. Bewoners van 21 woningen in de twee straten zeggen al jaren last te hebben van schimmel in hun woning, en ze zouden daarvoor al vaker hebben aangeklopt bij Eigen Haard. Een van de bewoners zegt al sinds 1999 met een zwarte schimmelmuur te zitten. 'De enige schimmel die ik wil, heet Ozosnel', zegt Sjerp van Wouden, verwijzend naar het paard van Sinterklaas. Van Wouden is er vandaag bij namens de SP. Hij neemt de bewoners op sleeptouw. Samen hebben ze een zogenoemd zwartboek gemaakt, waarin foto's en verhalen staan van de bewoners die last hebben van de schimmel. Ze gaan dat aanbieden bij het hoofdkantoor van Eigen Haard. Een bezoek dat ze van tevoren hebben aangekondigd. Eenmaal binnen neemt Van Wouden het woord. Hij hoopt op duidelijke afspraken, zegt hij tegen Annelinda van Dijck-van Eck. Zij is directeur Buurten & Vastgoedsturing bij Eigen Haard. "Dit betekent dat er iets niet goed gaat", zegt ze na het aanhoren van alle verhalen. "Dit is echt niet waar we voor staan. U moet gewoon in een goede woning kunnen wonen." Samen spreken ze af dat Eigen Haard eind dit jaar met een plan komt om de problemen op te lossen. Ook belooft Eigen Haard dan een uitnodiging te sturen naar de buurtbewoners om het over de toekomst van de buurt te hebben. Van Wouden zegt blij te zijn met de afspraken. "Na jaren van gesteggel zijn we actie gaan voeren en we hebben binnengehaald wat we wilden: meteen onderhoud ter bevordering van de gezondheid en voor het einde van het jaar een plan. In het gemeentehuis van Opheusden werd vergaderd over de mogelijke komst van een opvangcentrum voor asielzoekers. Tegenstanders verzamelden zich buiten en staken vuurwerk af. De ME greep in.

Nieuwe plaatsnaamborden met de naam 'Oud Osdorp' zorgen voor verwarring bij bewoners van Geuzenveld. Op drie plekken zijn onlangs borden geplaatst, maar nog niet iedereen begrijpt waarom. "Oud Osdorp? Ik woon al 70 jaar in Geuzenveld", zegt een bewoner. Ook de nieuwe grens die met de borden lijkt te worden aangegeven, roept vragen op. "Opeens is er een lijn dwars door onze buurt getrokken. Dat vind ik vreemd", aldus een andere bewoner. ''Ik ben van mening dat Geuzenveld hier niet ophoudt." De ommezijde van de borden zorgt tevens voor verwarring. Hierop staat 'Amsterdam', wat impliceert dat Oud Osdorp wordt verlaten en dus buiten de stad ligt. ''Je bent allang in Amsterdam. Om dan nog een nieuw bordje tegen te komen met 'Amsterdam' vind ik een beetje overbodig'', zegt een bewoner. Wat is Oud Osdorp? De naam Oud Osdorp komt niet uit de lucht vallen. Het verwijst naar het oorspronkelijke Osdorp, dat al eeuwen bestond voordat de Westelijke Tuinsteden werden gebouwd. Het gebied lag rond de Osdorperweg, aan de rand van het huidige Geuzenveld. Eeuwenlang was Osdorp een klein, landelijk dorp met vooral boerderijen en weilanden. In 1921 werd het gebied officieel onderdeel van Amsterdam. In de twintigste eeuw breidde Amsterdam uit en ontstonden er nieuwe woonwijken rondom het dorp. Om onderscheid te maken tussen het historische dorp en de nieuwbouwwijk Osdorp, zoals wij die vandaag de dag kennen, wordt de naam Oud Osdorp gebruikt. Oud Osdorp is tegenwoordig geen officiële buurtnaam meer binnen de gemeentelijke indeling. De nieuwe borden staan nu tussen de wijk Geuzenveld en De Eendracht, waardoor er dus discussie is ontstaan. Dorpsraad De borden zijn door de gemeente geplaatst op verzoek van dorpsraad Sloten-Oud Osdorp. De dorpsraad lijkt erg blij te zijn met de geplaatste borden, maar wilde verder helaas geen reactie geven. De gemeente gaf wel een reactie:“Het college heeft in de beantwoording van de schriftelijke vragen de cultuurhistorische waarden van het landelijke gebied erkend en stond positief tegenover het idee om plaatsnaamborden met Oud Osdorp in het gebied te plaatsen. We nemen de zorgen van bewoners over mogelijke verwarring serieus en evalueren de plaatsing ervan.'' De plaatsnaamborden krijgen nog een officiële onthulling. An interfaith coalition on Wednesday in New York City unveiled a 330-foot memorial shroud bearing the handwritten names of more than 20,000 children killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since 2023. Groups including Priests Against Genocide and Doctors Against Genocide presented the "Gaza Children's Shroud" at the Church Center for the United Nations across from U.N. headquarters. “In Gaza alone, 1 million Palestinian children [are] still alive,” said Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the U.N. “They need food. They need humanitarian assistance. They need the evacuation of all of the Israeli army. They need freedom. They need dignity. Palestine has to be free.”

Tryon 3rd, who was apparently one of the heirs to the Edward K. Tryon Co., a sporting goods retailer and wholesaler located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Whoever he was, E.K. Tryon 3rd owned (or possibly recently purchased) several oil wells, and the second half of the film shows him and his wife (?) surveying some of the wells. According to notes shown to the camera, some of them may have been pilfered or vandalized, or wearing out, as some notes indicate "pull rods gone", "ok except for oil line", "burnt power", "engine is a total loss", etc. The film also starts with shots of the Oil Well Supply Co., although the location is not known it could be the company's building in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. OWSC's Siverly plant in Pennsylvania specialized in producing essential oil field equipment such as sucker rods. Note: the oil wells shown in the second half of the film are on plots owned by the McKean Co. survey various equipment such as oil wells, processing tanks, power supply sources, oil lines and pull rods highlighting the process for collecting data and performing maintenance. 0:00 Film opens with the Oil Well Supply Company building, possibly in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh (:53). Pedestrians pass the entryway stamped with the company’s logo (1:05). The entrance of Frick-Reid Supply follows (1:10). (Note: Frick-Reid Supply operated in Pittsburgh, Tulsa and Matchbook, supplying gas, oil and water well equipment. They would later evolve into the modern Reid Supply Company.) Neon lights advertise La Salle’s dine and dance restaurant (2:13). Artistic shots capture a man’s silhouette and a highball glass against window blinds within a restaurant (3:52). Block 18, owned by McKean Company Inc., stands in winter snow (4:25). Surveyors jot notes on well #1 noting an issue with surface piping, a missing tank (4:56) and missing pull rods (5:08). Workers operate an early oil rig (5:18). Shots pan over for an oil processing tank (5:25) and connecting oil lines (5:33). Notes indicate the oil line has been damaged (6:20). Personal shots capture a female’s face on the grounds (7:45). Workers check the meter house (8:18); a facility containing equipment used to measure oil or gas volume pumping through the pipes. They check the power supply for another site (9:01) providing solution for issues in their notes (9:25). The film concludes with footage of an employee taking photographs (10:05) and a pair running down a snowy trail (10:14). Rebuilding A Rustproof Land Rover - Part #29. I found a reoccurrence of a problem that I had way back in 1999 when I first completed the rebuild. In certain circumstances the nearside wheel developed a severe oscillation or wobble when driving on the road at a slow speed and the wobbling continued until I stopped the Land Rover. At first it I thought was because I didn't have enough preload pressure on the nearside Swivel "Railko Bush". I cured it at that time by changing some of the Shims so this time I bought a new Swivel Bearing assembly.
