Here's an important tip to avoid injury when you're playing your guitar. Don't play too fast, too soon. Make sure you warm up slowly at the beginning of every practice session. Muscles in your fingers and hands warm up quite quickly, but the connecting tissues take longer. These are the ligaments and tendons. They need some time to get accustomed. A jockey wouldn't take a horse out of the stable, leap on, and gallop straight off, so treat your hands with the same care. Do some stretches and some gentle exercises, and warm up slowly. The deal has prevented a globally important bank from failing. Under the terms of the deal, Credit Suisse’s additional tier 1 (AT1) bonds were written down to zero while shareholders received $3.25bn. This can help you avoid the excess frustration and dismay that comes with shoddy practice and prolonged confusion. But playing the notes is not enough. Like an actor bring words to life, we breathe life into our pieces. And we can do this in an organized way, day in and day out, reliably. Great musicians can play wonderfully in any mood. They do not rely on emotions. Instead, they create music that affects our emotions. This is a trained skill, not an inborn talent. Playing classical guitar is a long-term study. It's something we do in our homes as part of our days. We play for ourselves, for the quality it adds to life. We may enjoy playing guitar for others, but most of the time we are alone with our work. There are methods and formulas for great practice. We can use our time well so that see more progress. We can fix the problems and erase the mistakes. And we can enjoy conquering the plentiful challenges that classical guitar music offers. If you plan to play classical guitar for any length of time, it is worth it to get help. Have you seen these drone shows where up to a thousand drones draw pictures in the sky? The drones used here look like they cost around $2000 each. During one drone show in Australia 50 drones fell from the display into the river. That was only 10 percent of the drones though, putting the total cost of the drones in the display at around $1 million dollars. These drone displays use a super accurate satellite positioning system called GNSS RTK which stand for Real Time Kinematics. The receivers are available for a few hundred $$. Then all you need is a radio link to communicate with each drone so you can tell it where to go, and some software to coordinate them. But what about if I want to fly drones autonomously indoors? There are lots of demos on YouTube of multiple drones flying around performing tasks. These systems tend to use a motion capture system like those manufactured by Vicon which have multiple cameras and IR illuminators, and some software that solves the skeleton for actor based on markers they wear. Here's how to play a finger pattern that every guitarist should know. It's one of the 5 basic scale shapes. The G shape major scale pattern. As you can hear, it's not necessarily the scale of G major. The name comes from the fact that the common G chord shape is hidden within it. But the whole pattern can be moved up and down the fingerboard to play major scales in different keys. Put this in your practice routine to increase speed and finger independence. Tijd voor een nieuw Ommetje! Podcast nummer 7 alweer. We starten dit keer tegenover het Centraal Station voor het Victoria Hotel. Hiervandaan lopen we langs het Damrak, richting de Sint-Nicolaaskerk en eindigen we bij de Schreierstoren. Is het je weleens opgevallen dat er ín de gevel van het Victoria Hotel 2 huisjes te zien zijn? Toen het hotel werd gebouwd, moesten huizen die op deze plek stonden gesloopt worden. Echter wilden de eigenaren van deze twee huizen niet wijken en was er maar één oplossing: het hotel gewoon om de huizen bouwen. En dat zorgt voor deze bijzondere gevel. Wist je trouwens dat toen dit hotel gebouwd werd, het nog niet bekend was of het Centraal Station hier, of bij het Leidsebosje zou komen? In die tijd werd om die reden bij het Leidsebosje het American Hotel gebouwd, en hier het Victoria Hotel. Zoals je nu wel weet, had het Victoria Hotel het dus bij ’t rechte eind.  Na even stilgestaan te hebben bij de gebeurtenissen van 7 mei 1945 en de gedenksteen die hiervoor op het hotel hangt, lopen we door en kijken we met het Centraal Station in onze rug naar het Damrak. Dit zag er namelijk vroeger héél anders uit. In plaats van het verkeer dat hier tegenwoordig overheen rijdt, voeren hier lang geleden schepen richting de Dam. Gelukkig werd niet het hele Damrak drooggelegd, want het stukje waar wel nog water is, is een plaatje. Hier vind je ook nog een ‘waterstoep’. Wat dat is, hoor je in de podcast.  Vervolgens lopen we na een korte stop voor café De Dwaze Zaken, waar je “een bakkie kan doen bij Jezus”, om het gebouw heen en staan we stil bij een gedenksteen van Chet Baker. Een wereldberoemde trompettist die op deze plek om het leven kwam, toen hij hier op 13 mei 1988 uit het raam van het hotel viel.  Vanaf hier lopen we door de Prins Henddrikkade, waar we stoppen bij één van de oudste gebouwen van Amsterdam: de Olofskapel, waar Tom vertelt over de prachtige poort die eigenlijk bedoeld was voor het kerkhof van de Westerkerk, en waar je te horen krijgt waar het gezegde ‘een rijke stinkerd’ vandaan komt. We blijven in de ‘heilige sferen’, want na een paar stappen terug richting centraal te lopen, slaan we rechtsaf naar de Sint-Nicolaaskerk. Dit is niet alleen een bijzondere kerk omdat Tom hier als klein jongetje kwam, ook is het een basiliek, wat inhoudt dat er relieken van een (of meerdere) heilige(n) liggen. In dit geval (de naam van de kerk zegt het al) de botten van De Heilige Nicolaas, die ook wel gezien werd als de beschermheilige van Amsterdam. Volgens Tom zeker de moeite waard om een keertje binnen te kijken! Een paar panden verderop, vind je een nieuwer opvallend gebouw tussen de oude gebouwen. En dat betekent vaak dat er is iets gebeurd. Zo stond hier vroeger een verffabriek, genaamd Vettewinkel, waar een enorme brand heeft gewoed. De voorkant van de fabriek brandde volledig af, waardoor er op deze plek een nieuw gebouw kwam. Echter is de achterkant van het pand wél nog intact gebleven. Via gebouw Batavia, café de Zeepost, en de achterkant van Vettewinkel, lopen we richting ons eindpunt: de Schreierstoren.  Veel mensen denken dat deze toren z’n naam te danken heeft aan de vrouwen die op deze plek stonden te “schreien” (huilen) wanneer hun mannen vertrokken op zee, maar dat klopt niet. Waar de toren wel z’n naam aan te danken heeft? Je raad het al – dat hoor je natuurlijk in de podcast. ;)    Wij zijn FC Centrum, een FanClub voor onze oude binnenstad.
