Mirdangam : MadRasana Tinge is a series of concerts recorded during the Pandemic. Each concert has a colour and the entire concert is presented based on the artists interpretation of that colour. We went one step further and for each of these colours we got Vinay Varanasi to compose a pallavi that represents this colour too. Since it was done during Pandemic, we were not allowed to have live audience. Inspired by a Spanish classical show, we decided to replace the audience with live plants. We also made this entire carbon neutral by planting trees to offset the electricity used during the shoot of this series. We are releasing the first of this series as a way of celebrating colours and what better way than to release it on Holi. The rest of the concerts will be released one on each month. In this concert we are presenting the colour RED. The concert will start with Vinay Varanasi explaining the context of the concert and what songs are being sung and why that particular song was chosen for this colour. He also explains the thought process behind the pallavi that has been composed. In the Dutch province Zeeland the water has become so highly contaminated with toxic PFAS chemicals that fish from these waters can no longer be safely eaten. PFAS, also called ‘forever chemicals’ because they hardly degrade in the natural environment, can be hazardous to human health, even at very small amounts. A scandal arose when it became known that a factory of the chemical giant 3M in the neighbouring Flemish city of Antwerp had been discharging huge amounts of PFAS chemicals into the water, thereby also polluting the downstream waterways of the Dutch Zeeland province. I really want to make a giant rideable land-worm, and last year I made an eight-wheeled snake bike which bends to steer. That had wheels but I’d really like to build something that can move in an unconventional way or walk on legs. I’ve been experimenting with wave drives, the first one used a spiral shaped former inside a flexible track, and I tried a cam-shaft driven design a few weeks ago. At the end of that video I mentioned it might be better to turn all the cams around 90 degrees and use them to drive legs in a wave formation. This leg mechanism is half of the walking mechanism I used in each unit in my omni-directional walking machine, so I decided that perhaps I should just use the whole mechanism and line a bunch of those up to make a centipede. I got this leg mechanism idea from the DIY walkers YouTube channel which you should check out. I want to make this machine four or five segments long and drive the whole thing from a single motor, so I’ve designed universal joints to link all of the sections, and a gearing arrangement to drive everything from one overhead drive shaft.
