A painting of Willy Lott's Cottage, previously bought and sold, twice, by Philip Mould is shown to be by John Constable. Mould's previous attempts to prove this had failed to convince experts. Amsterdammers kennen deze zaak ongetwijfeld, maar mocht je het om een of andere reden niét kennen, dan heb je vast wel mensen gezien die hier wel komen. Al jarenlang komen veel bekende mensen hier hun kleding halen. Zo was dit vroeger hét adres voor bekende presentatoren een artiesten om chique jasjes te kopen en komen er vandaag de dag - nu de zaak zich meer op streetstyle richt - bekende voetballers.   De zaak heeft in de 70 jaar dat ze bestaan een flinke verandering doorgemaakt. Zo begon Tip die Bruin ooit als  atelier met 20 kleermakers. Je kon er langs gaan voor een pak dat special voor jou op maat werd gemaakt. En wilde je als artiest zien hoe je outfit op het podium stond? Dan was je hier ook aan het juiste adres. Op de eerste verdieping in de winkel was namelijk een podium met lampjes, tegenover een grote spiegel, zodat je meteen kon zien hoe je dat pak of die glitterjas eruit zag in de setting waar het bedoeld voor was. Niet zo gek dus dat mensen als De Mounties, Martin Brozius - presentator van Ren je rot, Gerard Joling en Bassie - van Bassie en Adriaan, hier kwamen shoppen.  Maar naast dat soort tv-legendes kwamen ook andere bekenden, zoals burgermeester van der Laan hier regelmatig winkelen. En wat Tip de Bruin nou Tip de Bruin maakt? Dat iedereen hier hetzelfde wordt behandeld, of je nou grote artiest bent of stukadoor. Anno 2023 bestaat het podium om je outfit op te checken niet meer. Ook Tip is met z’n tijd meegegaan. Tegenwoordig kom je hier niet meer voor pakken maar voor streetstyle, winterjassen en alles wat in de mode is.
